The best breakfast diner you'll find in the wonderful Antioch, CA. I've been coming here for years and the only thing that has changed was their removal of one of their most popular sides the "country potatoes". No fear because their hash brown is still just as good. I loved it here as a kid as their pony pancakes were bigger than my face. Prices have increased obviously due to many things but that's okay because their portions remained large (and always shareable!) It is tradition to bring friends and family that come to visit to this breakfast staple. The workers are all so kind and do their best to take care of their customers. It's a nice family owned diner and the inside decor hasn't changed much - old timey, homey, and smell of pancakes, bacon and griddle food! It is best. My go to are the omelettes - the denver or rockefeller, with extra crispy hash browns and 3 silver dollar pancakes. Show em some love! read more

Hello, Today, I had a bad experience with Sylvia's. Racial Profiling.. There's nothing anyone can say to fix or change my mind. I been sending people over there for years, or as long as I can remember. Spoke highly of them, until today. A family member walks in to purchase her food. And all of a sudden she was charged with theft. An incident which happened earlier on with 2 other people; ethnics with hoodies on. Remind you, this young lady scared to death. The situation was cleared up in a proper manner. Still in all, you charged and accused the wrong customer!! For me, I'm disappointed, disgusted and dismayed. Came in for breakfast and met my daughter and grandson who is 18 months old. The server was awesome and immediately ask if we wanted a booster seat or high car. The menu is very extensive but I knew I wanted an omelette. I search over the many offering but the closes one that had all the goodies I wanted stuffed inside was their chicken supreme. I told the server that it had what I was looking for but I didn't want chicken. She stated I could substitute any meat. I chose bacon. The omelette came out piping hot and cooked perfectly, it was Stuffed, the servings are huge enough for two. I could only finish half and took home the remainder of my meal for dinner. They offer two sides so I had hash browns and fresh fruit which also was a huge bowl. That worked out great because I was able to share that with my grandson. This place is an excellent breakfast/brunch spot especially for those that can eat big amounts. I came with friends and family, Monday morning and we had a great time. Their service is phenomenal; they were so nice and very accommodating. The food is served fresh and in big portions. I enjoyed my SF Melt which was sourdough bread with a burger patty and Swiss cheese along with a side of crunchy French fries. Their sandwich burger was pretty good I thought especially for being diner type food. My friends ordered traditional breakfast plates and the potato hash is a big pile which was enough for two. We visited on a Sunday morning after church. It was pretty packed! There were lots of people there already. I wondered how long it would take for us to be seated. But, we were seated fairly quickly. The seating was comfortable and the staff was really nice. I had ordered their big bacon country breakfast. My sister ordered the same except for she asked for him instead of bacon. Everything was delicious! I was really impressed. I will definitely be back. The only negative thing I had to say is.. I wish my hot cocoa came in a mug versus a plastic clear cup. read more

I'd never dined at Sylvia's, but thought I'd give a to-go order a shot. I arrived in person to place my order, and was greeted fairly quickly. I asked them for a menu to place an order to go, and sat down. The vibe of this restaurant is very community based, but also very Americana; rustic furniture that's worn in, community flyers/posters greeting you upon entrance, and their customer base does seem to be elderly locals. After looking at the menu and deciding what we wanted to order, which was a cheeseburger combo (2x) medium rare, the waitress came over to take our order; she asked for our order and a name. This is where I understood exactly what type of restaurant Sylvia's is. I told the waitress my name is "Anna", and please keep in mind I'm a Black woman. She replied to me with, "you gave me an easy one huh". I caught the weird microagression immediately, but working in healthcare teaches you not to react to thinly veiled ignorance. I was there with my sister who's in high school, and she caught it just as quick as me. We received our food after 15 minutes or so, and proceeded to pay at the front with a different staff member. Now, moving onto to the food (I'm sorry I should have snapped a picture of it, but it's nothing to jump for joy at) which was decent. The burgers were not cooked medium rare, they were well done. They provided ample fries, and they tasted like...fries. The meal was standard across the board, and it's pretty hard to mess up a burger. The aftermath of that meal was a really bad stomachache, and after seeing the health violations on here, I wish I would've checked here first. Most days breakfast for me is coffee and toast, coffee and a breakfast bar, coffee... you get the picture. I ordered Maria's Chorizo omelette, with a side of hash browns. The omelette actually has hash browns in it, but I'm a potato aficionado, so bring on the potatoes! It was a life-changing omelette. I mean, so good that I kept eating until I could feel stretch marks forming on my sides. The mole on top reminded me of the enchilada sauce my grandma used to make, so rich and flavorful. The portion size is huge, this could easily feed two people or I guess one extremely hungry person. I overdid it a bit, but I could not stop taking another bite. The staff here are super sweet, this is a diner that feels a bit frozen in time, but not in a bad way. You come here for a good meal, friendly service, where everybody knows your name kind of vibe. Food was fine, service was okay, place reeked of cigarette smoke. So, the food is your basic food service supply fare that has been heated up/prepared like a standard diner. It was well prepared and tasted fine. Nothing special, nothing bad. The service was standard diner service. The thing that will make me never come back is the smell of stale cigarette smoke. This place has had its upholstery and carpeting since smoking was legal in California and never deep cleaned or replaced it. The exterior seems unassuming but the interior of the place is to die for, very cozy and welcoming. Also very clean despite it being an older building. This is my favorite breakfast spot in Antioch and the good people working here are excellent at getting orders out no matter how busy it gets. On my Saturday morning visit here for breakfast on 10/9/21 this spot was crowded with people waiting outside for their table to be called. We decided to grab a spot at the front counter for breakfast. I got some perspective for the speed at which the servers work watching them as I waited for my meal. One server was answering phones, refilling coffee, checking on customers, and watching for her order to come up from the kitchen. Just wow! I always order the omlette when I come here. It come with two choices for my side and I get the biscuits and gravy and hashbrowns. There are over 20 different kinds of omlettee you can get here. I got the Maria's Chorizo omlette that comes with Chorizo, country potatoes, onion, mole and jack cheese. The mole is not spicy, Chorizo was a mild spicy and the melted jack cheese was excellent. All omlettes are made with three eggs. Breakfast is super filling. I didn't even touch my biscuits and gravy so I packed up to-go for later on.
