I came in for cut and color and was told $150 over the phone. I only came because they were open memorial day and I was being impatient with my regular girl. When I got there she then told me $300 for the bayalage, which my hair is already, and I only needed a touch up. She then offered to do only a toner and cut for $200. I should have left right then. After they finished it looked nice of course. It's been a week and I have washed my hair only twice and it has completely washed out and looks awful(I use really good products for blonde hair). The tools they used were even extremely old and they used awful cheap product. It was completely overpriced and then for nothing. I'm so disappointed in myself...I have to ask my fellow yelpers forgiveness. I ALWAYS check yelp reviews when I am in a city that is away from home, because my yelpers never let me down. I trusted the Google reviews which rated this salon highly. If I had only checked yelp and seen only 3 stars!! I could have saved myself a lousy experience and $50. I left a Google review telling my story of how I showed this lady a picture and she proceeded to do what she wanted and when I showed her the picture again and said this isn't right, she continued to argue that she did what I said. I showed her a nice picture of long layers and a beautiful tapered cut, and she blunt cut my hair. I could have had my mom do what she did in the bathroom. I was trying not to be judgmental that the person doing my hair did not herself appear updated or trendy at all. She belongs cutting hair at Great Clips or something like that where everyone waits in a queue and pays $20 to just get the job done. If you are looking for something trendy and modern, seek elsewhere. And if you are out of town, for Yelp's sake, come here, don't trust Google! read more

I had a terrible experience at this salon. I went for a free consultation to try a keratin treatment. Quy checked my hair and quoted me a price. I paid $100 cash downpayment and after she took the cash, she stood there and said ok you can place your downpayment with credit card. I told her that I just gave her $100 cash and she said oh she forgot- really???? I should have known then that she would try to take advantage of me. I then came back saturday for the keratin treatment and I have never seen someone apply keratin with their fingers. This lady also quoted me a different price when I was in the chair. I told her that is not he price she had quoted me before. She said ok, no problem, I want the customer to be happy. Oh my gosh... I sat there in this chair listening to this lady complain the entire time about how much of "her product" she was using on my hair and she has never had to put so much keratin in someone's hair and how she is so tired and her arms are tired after having to flat iron my hair. She kept lamenting OVER and OVER about how she is so sure she quoted me a different price but that it was ok. I mean.. really??? is it ok if you mention it over and over and over?! I dreaded every moment being there because of what all this lady kept saying. I told her that many of my family members had done this treatment before and it was only then that she started saying what I should do and should not do- so unprofessional. She also emphasized that it has never taken her this long to provide this service (at the 2 hour mark) when she was the one who told me that I should plan for 4 hours. When I told her about it, she said "oh I am very fast- faster than my two other employees". If you are that fast, why complain so much about your hand hurting? She also brought a basket of products saying these were all I needed. She strongly recommended. She kept insisting that I needed all the products (as if I couldn't read) and after telling her over and over that I do not plan on flat ironing she kept insisting that I get all. So here I am, one week later after putting this product in- and there is absolutely no difference in my hair however I am over $500 out and nothing to show for it. She was terrible, her service was terrible and like I said, I am out $500 minus a tip to her. How is this lady still in business? I tried placing a terrible review and it would not let me post on her synergy review website- hence the reason for glowing reviews. A bad review is sent via email to her - go figure! I bought a shampoo, conditioner and a hair polish. She told me they cost around $30. They cost $35.99 which is different than $30. I felt and have expressed throughout this review that she has tried to take advantage of me the entire time I was there, tried to guilt trip me, tried making me feel bad about the "amount of product she had to use in my hair, how tired she was flat ironing and the list goes on. Haircut is ok but the owner is not hon st. I checked website with a price; when I called, the owner quoted me with 50% of the website price; when I entered the salon, the owner added another 50% to the price she told me on phone; after the cutting, the owner charged me another additional 15% on top of the price she told me when I entered the store. The assistant lady who gave me the haircut was nice. Thus, I didn't want to not to give her a tip. Therefore, I paid more than 3 time of the price they advertise on their website. We (my mom, my sister-in-law, and myself) made the appointment on Saturday April 3rd and we were very excited because the salon had good reviews. However, when we got there, we were told the other stylist called out and it was just her and her assistant. They were very kind and we were happy for the most part when we left. When I washed my hair the next day, my hair came out in clumps with multiple hot spots and breakage from leaving the bleach on too long. I spent $420 plus a $90 tip and when I realized the state of my hair, I contacted the owner for a partial refund. She told me she could not give me one, so this is my only option to let others know how business is conducted at this salon. She kept leaving us to talk to her maintenance man, David (I believe was his name). The other customer that was in the salon was neglected and ended up leaving with wet hair, and I could tell she was annoyed. Spending as much money as I did that day, I did not get the results of the price. I regret getting my hair done here. I should also say that most of my hair is virgin, blonde hair, and the bleach was left on for at least 35 minutes. I asked for balayage and got chunky, inconsistent highlights. My mom only got a haircut, with an electric razor, and that cost an additional $90. I paid because her hair looks nice, but she could have gone to the Walmart salon and got the same results. I wish I had better things to say because I really enjoyed the owner and the assistant, but for her to not care about how she damaged my hair has put a bad taste in my mouth. I walked into Synergy literally right after leaving my Dentist appointment. I usually get my hair cut at Super Cuts just to save money, however I wanted to see what a Salon experience would be like. Quy did not disappoint! I didn't have an appointment and she was able to get me right in after her previous cut. I usually wait too long (2 years!) because I hate getting my hair cut. I don't like having to tell the stylist how I want my hair cut. How do I know where there should be layers or not? I simply showed her a few pictures of what I liked. She offered to do some natural looking highlights to help with the (ahem) pure white hairs that I'm getting as a natural redhead. She gives you warmed towels to relax your back whenever you are sitting. The scalp and neck massage was absolutely heavenly when you are getting the shampoo and conditioner. She pointed out which items she would be using for my hair and why, instead of an "one size fits all" shampoo and conditioner that most salons use. As a migraine sufferer, I asked if I could come in for a massage whenever I had a migraine! :) When everything was said and done, I had a beautiful bob cut. She took the time to straighten my naturally curly hair for a different look. I also had "sun-kissed highlights". It was absolutely beautiful. So much so that my husband told me repeatedly how beautiful I looked! I would most certainly come back again for a wonderful spa experience :). read more

It was an AWFUL experience! My "strawberry blonde" hair color request turned into DARK BROWN. I was told it would wash out and lighten over the next week which it did not do. The perm I got in the meantime was so horrendously bad that I was actually laughed at by the kids in my classroom where I teach. It was nothing but a frizzy Afro although I asked only for some waves to give my long hair some movement because the weight was pulling my curls down. I went back after the week she told me to wait because it would relax (and didn't) and I demanded she fix it. A few hours later I had a dark brown crimped hairstyle where my blonde curls were. She was rude, didn't listen at all and was very expensive. The color and perm were more than $300. She gave me a gift card to give to a friend for $50 off a perm but nothing for ME! Walked into an empty salon at noon? Owner Quy was the only stylist there. Although I had a scheduled appointment, she proceeded to leave me sitting and sitting and took a walk-in appointment, as well as multiple phone calls. I spent over 3 1/2 hours for simple highlights and trim and left with soaking wet hair! UGH! I had a child to pick up from school! Ridiculously, outrageously expensive, and aggressively pushed expensive products on me as well. I spent well over $300! Tip: take no for an answer. Show some respect to your customers. Respect that their time is important to them, too. I was certainly fooled by all questionable gushing reviews on CitySearch. Place is not upscale. It is dirty, creepy and dated. If you would like your hair completely damaged then come here! My hair was ruined, i had some burgundy and brown in my hair and going through many stages of different colors in my hair over the years I know that it can't go from a dark color to platinum in one sitting. I asked to go lighter but I simply wanted a brown and Quy turned me platinum which I would have not minded if my hair wasn't fried and multiple colors. I paid $300 just for me to have to go somewhere else for my hair to be chopped off because of the damage my hair endured from this salon. I went back for a refund and was given so little of my money back, I was kind and understanding but Quy was completely unprofessional and rude. She said she could fix my hair but after going to other stylist and even just feeling my hair, there was only the solution of cutting it. When Quy did my hair, I walked out with wet hair because it would have been close to $50+ just to style it and that I find ridiculous! A HUGE clump of my hair fell out that same day, my hair felt gummy and super dry. I recommend everyone to stay as far away from this salon as they can!!! read more

I use to go to Synergy Salon over 5 yrs ago. Hair cuts for me. One time I went in for a haircut asked for a blunt cut, which is a inch and a half straight cut. What I got was just hideous and disgusting. The owner had chopped my hair in the back into a short layer like a bowl cut at the top in the back and then left the length long on the rest. Basically severely thinning my hair out and telling me I need to buy product for thickening because hair too thin. I did not get the mirror to look at hair in the back at salon but cried when I went home. Its taken many years to fix the damage. I never went back. Neither should anyone. So if your looking for a recommendation for this salon its minus 10. I do not feel the need to attach photos. Once trust is gone you never go back. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I regret ever coming to this place. All I wanted was a simple haircut..one length. All this lady had to do was cut 2 inches, straight across. 1. My hair is choppy and uneven 2. This woman charged me $90 JUST for that. I was never informed how much the cut would be, the prices are not listed..I was thinking it would be the average price so, imagine my surprise when it was time for me to pay. Her excuse afterwards was that "she had to charge extra because of the length". I was NEVER informed it would be an extra cost. Do yourself a favor, don't make the same mistake I made in coming here and SKIP this place. Friendly and clean but this is the most expensive haircut I have ever paid for and it wasn't even for me. It was for my daughter who is only 11 years old. It was a simple cut with a few layers and I was charged $70. I've never even paid that much for my own hair with highlights. Very unprofessional to not have the prices posted, but I assumed which I shouldn't have and I was blindsided by $70. Experience was not good. Took my 15 year old daughter here for a simple blowout and Owner wanted to charge me $100 for the blowout. I advised her that was over priced for a simple blow out and then she said I can knock off $10, I said that is still to high and she said I can go $5 lower so, $85 for a simple blow. The website for the store shows a blowout to be $50. I told the owner what her website said and she said those are old prices and it cost more. My hands were tied, I needed the blowout because my regular stylist had canceled due to an emergency and my daughter had Homecoming and I needed the blowout. Basically they washed and blow dried my daughters hair and put a few curls in it and it did not even look good. My daughter was so upset and I am out $85 for a blowout . I wish I had looked at the reviews before we went because I have noticed others have had the same experience. Lesson learned for me. Do not use this place. I have been going to Synergy Salon for over a year. I find Qui consistently gives me a great haircut and I am always pleased. I also get highlights in my hair. Qui is great with colors that compliment your skin tone. I am equally pleased with the highlights. My hair looks great growing in until the next appointment. Qui also shapes my eyebrows. I am thoroughly pissed off right now. Six weeks ago, I made an appointment with Ashley for a hair cut. She texted me before and said she was now at Synergy Salon. Okay, cool. Day of my appointment 6 weeks ago: Ashley is a no call, no show. I am upset, but I decided maybe she wasn't there due to things behind her control. I did think it was strange because she's never done this before at her other salon. Quy says to me she will cut my hair. Okay, cool. I have to leave to go out of the country on this day, I'd like to look nice. ...Y'all. My hair is uneven and most definitely not what I wanted. She also burned part of my birth mark on my neck (I actually had singeing on my neck). Not to mention, she charged me $70 for a 40 minute hair cut plus an additional $20 for control paste I didn't want (I did end up using some of it, though). Fast forward of growing my hair out and waiting 6 weeks to *hopefully* see Ashley: I drive from Indian Trail to Matthews and arrive just before 11. Quy is on the phone. After she gets off the phone, she apologizes to me and checks me in. Then she says (and I quote) "So, you're going to kill me." I stopped what I was doing because I knew what was coming out of her mouth. She told me that Ashley was no longer with the company. I told her she can cancel my appointment. "Oh, I can cut your hair for no charge!" I told her: "I have other things to do today, and cutting my hair was on my list. You actually decided to tell me the day of my arrival that she's not here. You could have told me yesterday or after the fact Ashley left or was let go. I now have to find a new stylist." She tried stopping me walking out the door, but I kept walking. I'm now sitting at World Market writing this review because this is just absolute staunchy customer service. I don't kow how Quy can charge $70 for a 40 minute hair cut and get away with it. Just because you have 30+ years of experience doesn't make you a good hair stylist. *Edit: I called my husband to let him know my next step and she was trying to call me. Her voice mail states that she understands I'm upset and that she somehow missed my phone number when trying to contact her clients, that it's her fault and she's sorry for ruining my day. Um, no. You didn't ruin my day. I can find another salon with better customer service and that won't charge an arm and a leg for 40 minutes and not screw my hair up. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

The owner who is also the stylist was very pushy with recommendations and trying to sell her products. She had her agenda and just wanted to push it on to the customer. She was not a good listener as to what I was looking for. I really wanted products that are more natural and all her products had tons of chemicals and I didn't really want heat treatment, and she just ironed out my hair and put some gel and asked me to sit under the heat dryer. I'm very disappointed with the owner's lack of honesty and accuracy. For the price I was paying, I expected simply that. She did way more than we agreed to when the came to hair style and coloring. I'm livid and so depressed every time I look into the mirror. My hair is shorter than we discussed and my whole head is unevenly red/copper rather than ombré fireside red/orange I had picked out. To top it all off, she wanted to charge me to straighten my hair additional to the 260 I was already paying. When I said no thank you she offered five dollars off the regular price to straighten it when never in my life has there been a charge for that at the end of a cut. Again, I declined her offer, she insisted on doing it by saying "its ok I'll do it, let me do it, I do it for you". So I'm left thinking she gave in on trying to hustle me for the last dollar in my account I'm already issuing to splurge and pamper myself and would straighten my hair for no extra charge. But no, she charged me extra anyway. Very odd to me. She doesn't have our best interest. She does her job her way and tries to get you for every penny she can con you into paying. I had believed she was as talented and she confidently portrayed and I terribly regret it. The picture for reference I gave her was very simple but she gave me dramatic results opposite to what . I called back to ask what she would do to help me feel better about my visit with her and she was rude and insisted she was right in it all. No apologies for ruining my hair. *edit* finally my hair has grown back to the length it was before and the patchy lightened color is almost grown out. She wants to pretend that she would have fixed the situation if I had responded to her by email or phone, but truth is when I called her when the incident occurred & before her response to this review, she hung up on me. I liked my hair cut but my hair color came out too dark. The appointment also took 3 hrs! they washed my hair for what seemed to be a very long time and slipped in a head and hand massage that cost extra that i did not ask for. I have a personal space issue so for me this was uncomfortable. I was the only customer there the whole time and she would switch with another hair stylist there occasionally. The appt turned out to be very expensive. I would go somewhere else next time because they seemed too eager to sell me products and seemed surprised that i tipped them well. I just happen to be a good tipper and i did like the cut...but thats it. 3 hrs is too long! also, i think i saw a dead roach in a corner. it was not clean. there were pieces of hair everywhere. for a place with no customers you would think it would be clean. read more
