BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES. They hound you and hound you by phone for their business. I have gotten a missed call from them THREE days in a row, so, today, Sunday, I called the number back. A woman answered "System Pavers", and I said, 'youve been calling me every day for the last three days...please stop..I have moved'. She said ok, Ill take you off the call list. My phone rings 30 minutes later. Bloody Hell. Do they want to be sued for harassment? Are you kidding me? I shouldn't have to block their number, they should STOP harassing me. Contacted SP to do a fake grass/pavers install around our new (but tiny) home. After a quite extensive sales pitch we handed over a check for the deposit and called it a day. The cost was more than we bargained for but it was going to be 'forever' and we looked forward to the transformation. Less than 24 hours later we were notified that our home would need earthquake retrofitting and a French drain system. There went our budget for the pavers! I emailed SP to let them know we were cancelling. Within 10 min I got a call from our salesman who promised things he said weren't avail. to us the night before. (Extension of the 'sale' period for instance.) I said we'd talk it over and I'd let him know our decision and we let the contract stand for the moment. 6 hours and a long conversation, with my spouse, later I emailed once more letting our sales person know that we would indeed go ahead and cancel. More than a week went by with no word from SP. and no refund of our deposit. I wrote a Yelp review, and low and behold got a call from our salesperson within an hour, asking me to take it down - a check would be forthcoming. I emailed again, saying I might take it down or alter it if and when our deposit check was returned to us. Again, a week or so went by..no check. We did however get a call from someone saying they'd be there the next day to take measurements for the job. What!? We also got a card thanking us for using SP and they hoped we were happy with the work we'd had done. Double What!? In the end, we got our check...after apology emails and phone calls and "It's all our fault." At least they got something right! read more

We had a failing retaining wall at my mother's house, which is on a hillside in the fault zone. I was told by almost every company I talked to it couldn't be done or the cost would be astrinomical. This was a job nobody wanted. After having several other companies come out for an estimate only to tell me the job was way out of their league, if they even returned my calls at all. Javier Rodriguez, Scott Issershon and System Pavers really came to the rescue. They stuck with us all through the permitting process and kept me up to date of any design changes needed to get the permit approved and even worked out a few different design possibilites so we had options to choose from. System Pavers was amazing! They started on time, completed the project as planned, kept me updated on what was happening throughout the whole process, and we responsive to any concerns or isssues I had. I had System Pavers rip up my god-only-knows-how-old concrete driveway and replace it with pavers. Things went well. There was one problem (because I am picky) and they immediately fixed it. That was back in November 2013. Now, a month ago, I decided to have a new walkway put int. Systems Pavers did not disappoint, once again. Staff was friendly but professional. The walkway was done to my liking, and my friend, who is a professional landscaper, eyed the finished project and said they have done a good job. Before reading the rest of this review, please note that we had no previous experience with pavers and contracting with a company like Systems Pavers to do pavers design and installation work. So the process of working with Systems Pavers was a big learning curve for us. This is a process-oriented company that could do good work if the project is straightforward. The quality of work could vary across System Pavers locations in different regions. Pro's * They are very effective at marketing what they have done for other big clients. * The salesperson who worked with me was friendly. * They agreed to include some additional value-added work at reasonable prices. * Aside from the problem with the color of the pavers themselves, the quality of the implementation work was very good. Con's * The salesperson, although friendly, was also inexperienced, and this caused problems with our job because the color of the pavers didn't match what I saw and wanted on a particular brochure (to give them a little slack, it wasn't a company they normally use). Systems Pavers didn't do a very good job of addressing the problem after it was discovered on the day of the job. * They didn't get us samples of the pavers we had chosen, which would have averted the color-related problem we ended up with. For some reason, the salesperson and management didn't understand that we wanted to achieve a particular look by selecting particular pavers colors. * Their crews don't speak English, which is a big problem when the supervisor or foreman, the only person who does, leaves after the implementation work begins. That person doesn't stay for very long. This is really frustrating because you can't communicate very easily with their workers. Their processes don't work very well when there is a problem. * The crew wiped out many of the markings our landscape designer had made through careless or unthoughful work. We had to ask our landscape designer to come back and redo his work. * If you're not using them because of a special deal, I think they are on the expensive side (perhaps due to their marketing and other overhead). All in all, I was happy with the quality of the installation work, but we were unhappy with the color of the pavers that were shipped to us. So the job didn't quite turn out as I had hoped. I thought that paying more for a large, well-known company would have ensured a higher level of process quality, but I was disappointed in how Systems Pavers failed to clearly understand what we were looking for (it was quite straighforward) and address the problem. read more

We had a great experience working with System Pavers throughout our project. Sales manager Paul was very helpful in designing a complete makeover of our SF home yard. Owen took over as our project manager and helped address and resolve items that came up during the project (unanticipated gophers). Miguel and his field crew were exceptional during all phases of the work - from excavation, leveling to paver stone placement and the installation of our new putting green and yard lighting. I had System Pavers put in a new driveway and path for me, and am extremely pleased with the results. My project manager, Javier Rodriguez, came by every day to make sure everything was going smoothly. When an issue came up, he was right on it, whether it was dealing with PG&E or the water company, or bringing in equipment or supplies. He always made sure that I knew I could contact him at any time about anything I had concerns about, and he checked in frequently with me. The men who worked on the project were amazing. They were very skilled at what they were doing, and also extremely respectful of my property, cleaning up at the end of every day. System Pavers has a 20-year guaranty and Javier made sure to tell me that he works in my area often and I can always call him if I have a problem in the future. I've been a System Pavers customer for years. I had them do an initial job which was my driveway and then come back and do a second job later. I actually kept in touch with Maggie for a long time because I liked her and she was honest with no b.s. And no, she didn't hound me or beg me to get the job done. The thing I liked the most about this company was that the jobs required limited (if any) oversight. I don't mind paying a little bit more if I know the job will be done 100% as I expect. And since I work I don't have the time to sit home and watch and make sure that the contractor does the job. I was traveling during both jobs and only had a friend periodically check on the progress. This company is honest. Maggie knows her stuff. I'm sure the company has many knowledgeable reps but I know only Maggie and she is the one I will go to to get the straight scoop. I know I could have hired a cheaper company. And paid less. But my time is the most valuable thing I have. And they didn't waste any of it. read more

My advice to all...if you go with System Pavers just make sure you have at least two or three bids to compare. System Pavers was 75 to 100% higher than two competitors. They may do nice work (work often done by subcontractors) but you owe it to yourself to know the premium your paying for the final product. The marketing techniques used by System Pavers were sometimes over the top...dropping initially quoted price ~40% if you were willing to sign on the spot. Our aging and dry rotting deck needed to be replaced. I chose System Pavers but had several concerns about the impact on our property and budget after the contract was signed. We didn't know what would be discovered during demolition or how long it would take. Javier Rodriguez, the assigned System Pavers project manager, got his crew on site early and completed the demolition in one day. They were very organized and respectful. He discussed what they were discovering all along and shared aspects of how the crew would make the design fit the ground conditions revealed after demolition. An AC unit move and unforeseen electrical line issue was part of the overall project. That involved a HVAC company I had to contract with separately. That company had no project manager equivalent to Javier so I had to work with them to ensure they would communicate with Pavers and me. Javier took the lead with them in way we really appreciated; making sure that they knew to bury electrical lines to Pavers and county standards, modifying their SOW so there were no surprises, managing through delays caused by the county inspectors right up to slightly modifying the patio to fit the AC unit pad. Javier was fully prepared for dealing with county, another contractor and the delays no one could have anticipated until after demolition. He gave my wife and I a level of comfort from end to end that cannot be overstated or under-appreciated for a project like this read more

Best company for designing and implementing pavers. This company removed our ugly concrete driveway over 10 years ago and it has remained as gorgeous as ever. They also installed pavers for our front walkway back then and just recently remover the concrete walkway on the side of our house and installed permeable pavers. I highly recommended Brian Tippin, System Pavers Design Consultant, in designing landscape. Before Brian, I was afraid to go to my own backyard. It has been many years of neglect that it has become a jungle of weeds, neighbors' vines, tree stumps, dumping ground for building materials, and many other things. I was afraid that something might have been living and hiding in my backyard. I was overwhelmed and full of anxiety with my past backyard, not knowing where to start cleaning my backyard and designing it to fit my objectives, low maintenance. Pros: They will do a paving job on the cheap. The actual paving job is decent. Cons: The reason they are so cheap is the total lack of site supervision and asset protection. I didn't realize the document I was signing when I purchased their product also made them exempt from destroying my street, the curb concrete, my irrigation system, and just about anything else they could possibly destroy. I have a tiny front yard. These people came in with a front loader and proceeded to rip everything to shreds. I was astonished at the damage they caused. Also, when they left, they left many problems for me to come behind and repair such as the metal stair railings were cut off and free floating. I had to completely rebuild the front yard irrigation system. Wow. In retrospect I would have rather paid more and gotten a company who had a modicum of respect for my property. read more

HIGH PRESSURE SALES TACTICS! After agreeing to a price, Dave, the sales rep. changed what he had promised to do at the last minute. He was going to remove and replace my front porch. After We had agreed he changed it saying it may cause foundation problems. Why didn't he see this before, He offered me an $870.00 discount on a 250 sq. ft. job; that he had quoted at $8000.00. Since removing and replacing the porch was a substantial portion of the job I expected more of a discount and I question their honesty and ethics. I have the impression System pavers wanted a larger profit margin and so offered me a lesser product at the last minute. BAD BUSINESS! I will be going elsewhere. read more

From the beginning when John Castangnola came to our house and worked with us, to Dan Gurnham the project manager who also worked with us, to Jesus Alas and his crew who did an AWESOME job transforming the front of our house, everyone was professional, courteous, friendly, caring, etc. The complete project was perfect from start to finish. Dan Gurnham always communicated with me throughout the project. Jesus Alas and his crew are skilled artists. Dan and Jesus went above and beyond by showing concern for the safety of our front yard by suggesting installing a retaining wall and fence, which they did. We were approached on the street by a salesperson for System Pavers. He gave us a rough estimate and we pretty much decided to go with them, based on the work they had already done for our friend. We didn't hear anything from them for weeks, and then when we did, we were told they had underbid for our job, and weren't happy because we insisted on them buying special brick styles for us. Three months later I was literally about to call someone else, when they called to tell us they'd start on Monday. They estimated a period of about ten days to finish a small walkway, driveway and patio area. Their workers were quiet, respectful, hard-working and pleasant. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!! We had been thinking about getting some paver work done on our home for sometime now and recently started to do some research. I started on Yelp and we all know how that can go. For the most part it seems that there were some isolated incidents that seem to have been resolved. We continued our research by looking on Nextdoor.com. There were again some mixed reviews from fellow neighbors. I went ahead and made contact with a sales rep that was recommended by a fellow neighbor. She was great. She came to our home on a Tuesday evening and met with us. She met with us briefly and gave us some information and discussed some options etc. She came back Friday with some design options etc. This is where something was "off." Being that I am in an industry that has sales people I knew that she was doing what she was trained to do. She showed us the estimate and my heart skipped a few beats. It was pretty much double of what I was budgeting. She started the game. Two hours later after going back and forth we signed the contract knowing that deep down inside I knew something wasn't right about $4k in just lighting...10 to be exact. I never sign a contract without getting other bids or have received other bids but she was very persuasive and persistent. The next morning I woke up knowing that I had made a bad decision by not obtaining another bid and the dollar amount for just lighting was almost the cost of a used Honda Civic. So I emailed the sales rep immediately. A few days later via email she confirmed that she had received my cancellation. I scheduled another bid and was not shocked that the second bid came in at almost half the cost, in fact the second bid came in with double the lighting. Same brand stones, same brand lighting fixtures that are solid brass with lifetime warranty. Fast forward a few weeks later. I received my credit card statement and found that System Pavers went ahead and charged my credit card the deposit amount of $1000. I called their "customer service" number and was forwarded to "The Norcal Area Manager" in which I left a voicemail with. Never received a call back, so I made several attempts to contact him, still no response, no reply. I came here on Yelp and found that there was an Amanda that made it seem as if she cares about unhappy customers. I gave the company a chance and sent her an email in hopes to resolve this issue. Nope, she was out of the office and sent me to another gentleman. Now, I understand that it was Thanksgiving week but no one in this company believes in auto responses or updated voicemails that would indicate that they are out of office. Just so you guys know, per California contractors state license board. You have 3 business days to cancel a contract if it was signed anywhere but their office. After the written notification the business has 10 business days to be granted full refund of the deposit. Well, luckily for me have all my emails with dates and times. I was within the 3 day grace period but this company still charged my card. It's been more than 10 business days and I have not heard back from anyone. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!! Unreliable! I set up an appointment with them to come see the frontyard and backyard I had. They made a big deal about how busy they were, and that we had to be home on time since their people had several appointments and shouldn't have to wait. Well, on the day of the appointment, we got a call saying they didnt have a car to come over. The appointment was set up a week ago, thats enough time to make arrangements for a car. Well, they rescheduled it, again based on "their" convenience, which was a week later. Again, no one showed up, and this time we didn't even get a courtesy call! Their treatment of prospective customers tells a lot about the kind of service you will get. Update: Brian, the customer service agent called me several times, and rescheduled the appointment. About 8 guys were standing around together and nobody asked if they could help. I walked out. Last week my wife and I gave them a second chance. I contacted this company months ago, asking for them to give me a bid on redoing my backyard. I never heard back from them. Then I started getting robo calls from them and calls from their salesmen telling me about specials they were running. Not one of them said that they had gotten my request for a bid and they were following up. I am on the no call list, so they were violating Federal laws. They had to have gotten my phone number off the information I filled out asking them to come to my house and give me a bid. Obviously, they don't care enough to follow up on people who contact them through their website. And they don't care about breaking FCC regulations. Maybe they do good work, maybe they don't. But I go as much by how a company treats people, handles communications, and respects laws. This company has its head in a bucket. read more

I hope I am reviewing the appropriate system pavers. We had our driveway redone in Contra Costa County. They called the very same day we a requested quote. They came out within days to give us a complete quote. The representative was so knowledgeable and gave us great advice. The workers came out the day they were supposed to come out. The supervisor came out in between the days just to make sure everything was done properly. They were short on filling for the concrete/asphalt edging and they came out on the weekend and finish the job. Incredible product looks beautiful. Worth every penny. read more
