Had the special the night spaghetti and meatballs it was really good little bit too much sauce on the spaghetti but overall very good. Calamari as an appetizer was really good the breading was light but flavorful and the calamari was done to perfection. They showed the football game and had hockey on as well. I think this will be a a popular place for me once the Stanley Cup playoffs get closer closer. My first meal was really good I highly recommend will probably go back for a second as well. read more

This is without a doubt my favorite steakhouse in town, and a welcoming place just to hang out for a drink or two. The staff works well together and are often pretty entertaining, and the food is NEVER disappointing! This tavern gets really crowded on ribeye night. We couldn't believe you needed reservations to get a table. We were there early and got a small table in the middle of the hustle and bustle. They sat us near an open door and we froze so dinner was not that enjoyable. Very loud and some unruly children. Great margarita with happy hour price $3.50. Steak was OK for the price and salad & baked potato were good. My advise is sit at the bar have a great drink and order your food to go. read more

We just ended an afternoon at the beach, and were starving! We drove by this place and noticed it was always packed. So on a whim we decided to try it out. We were seated quickly but it took about 15 min before anyone came by to even give us water and take our orders - despite seeing 4 staff members standing behind the bar. When someone finally came by to take our order he was really patient with our order for 4. We ordered a philly steak sandwich, which was huge! So if you like big plates this is the place. Also an order of their chicken wings which were so small! The taste was off. As if they were frozen. Then quickly deep fried and tossed in sauce. Their garden salad seemed to come from a bag. The atmosphere was loud as a sports bar would be. Overall, if you like big plates and sports broadcasted while you eat this is the place for you. The food is pretty good, they have wonderful soup and the wait staff is great. That being said the owner is rude. We have gone to this restaurant on a nearly weekly basis as we live nearby but will not go anymore. He has always been very moody but he has crossed the line and I don't support bullies. The food was good. That being said, our server was basically not up to the task. 1st, I asked for honey mustard salad dressing, but when my salad was delivered it had ranch. Both my wife and I ordered the Sunday shrimp special, and we both asked for the sautéed option. My wife got the correct dish, but I was given fried shrimp. Finally , I asked for cocktail sauce, but our server brought me tartar sauce. 3 strikes and they're out! Absolutely terrible we waited 45 min to just get water then they forgot my boyfriends drink all together my moms steak was jerky and her potato was under cooked. My boyfriend is allergic to dairy and even though he informed them of this they still put dairy on his veggies. The waitress kept touching her face and then had her fingers in our food. Honestly just stay home the young blonde is the only one actually working and the other staff was worthless and all of our food appetizers salad soup everything was brought out at once. Stopped into this place mostly because we we didn't want to search for parking at bay front and then not get seated before closing time (spring break). My son liked the clam chowder. I had steamer clams which were in a pretty good broth that included tomatoes and mushrooms, butter and wine. I ordered a side salad that turned out to be only iceberg lettuce swimming in dressing. My husband had their Tuesday prime rib special. It was good, well seasoned. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We went in here tonight with our kids. The service was great and the prices too. The food was all delicious too. We ordered popcorn shrimp and calamari for starters that we devoured. My husband loved the rib-eye and baked potato. He's still raving about that damn potato lol. I had the crab salad and it was really good. We took dessert home. Holy shit the brownie was huge! We have been eating at Szabo's for many, many years. Have recommended them, taken friends and out-of-state guests there, etc. Always celebrate my birthday there for the Baby Back Ribs; in fact, it's usually what I order for dinner there. The ribs are lightly glazed and are "fall off the bone" tender and so delicious. Szabo's has always been my favorite local restaurant, hands down...UNTIL NOW. Recently a friend and I had dinner there; she ordered a steak (rare) and I ordered...you guessed it, the Baby Back Ribs. When my ribs came, they were drowning with a very thick layer of bbq sauce. They were so dry and tough, I had a hard time sawing them apart with the steak knife. They were dripping with sauce, which got all over my hands and face. What a disgusting mess...and they tasted "funny"...not at all the ribs I was accustomed to. I only attempted to eat a couple of them, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. My friend's steak was tough and dried out...not the RARE steak she ordered. A very disappointing meal! She took the uneaten portion home, but threw it out the next day. I was not feeling well throughout the (18 mile) drive home to Waldport. A few miles from home, we had to pull over and I PROJECTILE VOMITED THREE TIMES! As soon I got home, I called Szabo's to alert them that I had gotten ill from the ribs, to perhaps prevent other customers from getting sick as well. They were very defensive, not at all apologetic, and basically accused me of trying to "scam" them for a free dinner. Also informed me that "if you're trying to say you have food poisoning, it takes 24 hours!" I asked them to have owner Mark Szabo give me a call on Monday. When he returned my call, I first explained how much I have always loved Szabo's...but I had a terrible experience. He too was nasty and defensive..."WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?". I asked for a refund on the meal I paid for but didn't really eat. He offered me a gift certificate (no thanks!) and was angry that I insisted on a refund. (Which he did send me, much to my surprise. No note of apology, just $17 shoved in an envelope). I'm sorry to say I will never eat at Szabo's again. I did speak to the Health Department about this incident, and they said Szabo's had some "questionable environmental issues". It was their suggestion that I post my experience on Yelp. So there you have it... Since then I have spoken to several people about Szabo's, and we all agree that something has gone wrong there. The quality of the food is not good; it was frequently described as "iffy". In addition, others have gotten ill there as well. Farewell, Szabo's. It was fun while it lasted. read more

Got a referral from our hotel. We had to wait for almost 15 minutes before we could even sit down. It took along time to even get a waitress too asked for our drink order. I order the chicken strips and my wife had the salmon, waited 20 minutes for the food. I got more batter then chicken, I don't know how you mess up chicken strips but they did it. My wife's fish was chopped up and in salsa. That wasn't on the menu, she couldn't even eat it. She sent it back and it was still chopped up. We got boxes and left, found the closest dumpster and through the boxes away. The place was packed so you would think the food and serves would be good, way wrong! Don't be fooled, stay away. I'm updating my review and adding another star. Szabo's is near by, it's a fav of locals to gather, watch a game, have a beer. Despite my not so great experiences previously, I've found myself there, hungry, more than once and I've learned a few things. Breakfast is hit and miss, more miss than hit actually, so I don't bother trying anymore. On the other hand, my last lunch and dinners there fared much better. If I rated on salads and sandwiches alone, I'd give Szabo's 5 stars. Fried dishes, fish, shrimp, etc, 4 stars. Pasta and steak dishes, a 3. Overall, I'm upping my review to 3 stars and recommend sticking with sandwiches and salads, or fish and chips. Skip pasta and steak. Avoid breakfast. Original review: I hate that I don't like the food here, except for one salad, because the bar is great and the service is good. First time in I ordered a crab salad and it rocked. Next time was the Chicken Fried Steak which was partially burned outside with stringy meat inside. Then I had the Philly steak sandwich which was huge, but the meat was so wet/greasy that it made the bun too soggy to eat. This morning I ordered biscuits and gravy. I was served white bread and gravy. White bread! And the gravy tasted like I was eating raw flour. My companion tried it and said I should complain. I figured any cook that would substitute white bread for biscuits wouldn't be interested in my feedback. Firstly, any business you get forewarned about is off to a bad start. I decided to remain impartial and give it a chance though. When I arrived just as I was warned the staff was oblivious to my arrival. Once I had been seated which in itself was a rushed, unsmiling experience our waitress disappeared. This would come to highlight the whole dinner! We waited an hour for our food and not once was revisited to be checked up on. That alone is pretty bad. Our ticket was thrown away with no apology only a self-deprecating snarky comment. Then once our food arrived it was at best sub par and no offer of compensation for the mistakes or wait was even offered.
