Really solid experience with genuinely friendly service on a Wednesday night. We came here for my birthday dinner. I ordered the Cannonball (a sourdough bread bowl filled with étouffée) and really enjoyed it. Instead of serving the bread lid on the side, they turned it into crispy, garlicky toast, which was a really nice touch. My husband had a burger, and the kids ordered the chicken sandwich and grilled cheese from the kids' menu, which came with crayons and coloring pages to keep them entertained. The food was exactly what you'd hope for from a neighborhood sports bar: no frills, just solid comfort food. One thing we appreciated were the booths had a really high back, which parents know is great when you've got somewhat rambunctious kids, and one with special needs. The staff made my birthday feel special by treating us to a delicious slice of Oreo cheesecake on the house. They sang "Happy Birthday" without making it overly embarrassing (which was appreciated) and our kids got a kick out of it. My husband enjoyed a nicely chilled draft beer, and my cocktail was both tasty and generously poured. Overall, it was a fun, relaxed meal with good food, great service, and thoughtful touches. The restaurant was clean-looked nice. The red flag should have been the tables of people sitting looking upset with no food in front of them. It was 1pm so not a lunch rush. Service was fast to the table for drink orders--then a long wait. We left before our other food came out- so I can't judge all their food but these two things not good. Waste of my time. Went for lunch and was very surprised how nice everything was. One of the cleanest pubs I've seen. We ordered the rockfish with the Pepperoncini sauce. It was large enough to share. Used to be my favorite place to eat while in Newort! I always get the same...the smoked salmon fettuccine.... Was so disappointed on this visit, bland and fishy tasting. not sure what happened...possibly new managemnet...owners....idk....but Definitely will not be returning! We had a great experience. The bartender was kind and attentive. There are not a lot of places to eat in this area but we are happy they were here for us. There is a candy store attached beware it closes at 7 pm. I did t eat but my brother ordered clam chowder and garlic bread. I did have a slice of garlic bread and it was done well. I liked that the slices of bread were thin and toasted to perfection. My brother enjoyed his clam chowder. The locals that were there said the candy shop makes all its own chocolate onsite and sends it out to the two stores on the bay. read more

It was OK. Large restaurant with a nice ambiance and sizeable bar. Portion sizes were very reasonable and service was good. Food was meh. I suspect the chef trained at a chain restaurant like Applebee's. I had a black bean burger and partner had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich. Both came with fries. Partner said chicken was "meh" and aioli was too garlic-y. I really wanted to like the black bean burger but the flavor was not what I expected. Partner tried it and said it seemed like the black bean patty was flavored with shwarma spices (?) which was really odd. Definitely not typical. Condiment on the burger was also garlic aioli. I would have preferred mustard or mayo with a standard black bean patty flavor. The bean patty seemed homemade though which is definitely a step up from frozen. It was just seasoned oddly. Waiter was very friendly and very accommodating by adding jalapeños and grilled onions as requested. We both had Arnold Palmer iced tea which tasted as if it was made from a powder mix or a can vs fresh made but they were OK. If you like average chain restaurants, you'll probably be satisfied. read more

I'am not one to ever leave a bad review..My MO would be just to never go back..but maybe this will help them do better..First the good..very convenient parking and the service was good. We both ordered the halibut fish and chips plus drinks. The drink prices were more than fair and the halibut was $27 each. The chips were homemade and tasty and there were 3 large pieces of halibut. The fish was way overdone and quite dry. The batter was dark brown so we knew there was a problem right away. We both only ate half and the rest is only good for dog food! my family went here and we gave a cash tip instead of a card tip and the waitress (that gave me terrible service to begin with) decided to take it upon herself and her her a 25% tip on my card as well as the 20% cash tip I already gave with I thought was generous. Well I called my bank and they said I had to call Off the Hook and when I called them they said there was absolutely nothing they could do. So screw them! I have heard they are doing this to several people and I would just like to ask the food was mediocre service was awful and slow (there was only a 2/3 tables) and I have no intention of going back and being robbed again. Avoid this place at ALL costs. They sneak extra charges on your bill and refuse to remove them. I believe they were I just reported for fraud for doing this. Charged $25 gratuity for buying a $68 hoodie and wouldn't give it back. So id recommend getting a good Ambiance and food anywhere in Newport but here. The service at this place is terrible. We watched 4 tables who were seated after us be served. We waited a whole hour after ordering to decide to get up and leave, I made it to the car with both kids, my husband stayed back to pay for the drinks. Then my husband calls to say come back the food is here, mind you we ordered: side Cesar salad, kids hamburger, kids chicken tenders and a regular hamburger. WOW what a diamond in the rough, we have driven past the restaurant many times but because there is a candy store has the street frontage you don't really see the restaurant. Large portions, absolutely delicious and friendly service ask for Tristan for your server, he is great!!! The meals are huge and is great! I recommend you start with their clam chowder, it had lots of clams in it and they added cream which reminded me of Boston clam chowder. I made the mistake of ordering the Fish and Chips plate which I could only eat 3 of the 4 pieces of the fish, my wife ordered Neptune plate which we had to take 1/4 of it home, we were so full! Walking in, it is pleasant to see how open, airy and well lit the restaurant section is. The bar area looks very inviting as well. The staff is very polite and we are shown to a booth by the windows. The booths, tables, chairs and floors are all very clean! I really like how clean this is in here, it really makes a good overall first impression. The menu has a nice variety of comfort foods as well as a specialty drinks menu from a full bar. I started with a cup of clam chowder and toasted garlic bread. The clam chowder was outstanding! It was so thick that it was like the consistency of a jam. This was a new one as it was full of potato and clam. The soup was incredibly smooth and creamy yet very thick. There was a light smoky flavor of ham or bacon. The top was sprinkled with a paprika and had a dash of a parsley garnish. The flavor was very rich. I also detected an extremely light sour note as if there might have been a little sour cream added. The toasted garlic bread was very buttery and crisp. It came as four thick slices and was covered with butter and garlic. An excellent dipper for the chowder. These two items alone was enough for a meal. Then we moved on to the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with fries. The Philly was so huge that it couldn't be picked up. It came on a normal hoagie roll but was so packed with an over abundance of ingredients that it had to be eaten with a steak knife and fork. The skirt steak was nicely cooked and sliced thin and there was a lot of it. There was also a nice amount of red and green bell peppers and onions. The only thing for me was the cheese. It was more of a Queso Cheese sauce, not the usual choice of provolone, swiss or others. The queso poured over the top was a little on the runny side, the flavor for me didn't quite match the profile of what I expected. Still, it was a generously large portioned sandwich and overall it tasted pretty good. There was also a BLT on some very well toasted thick sliced bread. Because the food was terrible the pulled pork was probably the worst pulled pork I've ever had in my life no flavor to it at all and chewy af, I made my whole family try and they almost all spit out back out on to the plate. The customer service was also aweful there were two other tables sat (they already had food) and it took us almost an hour to get our food after placing our order. I was raised here in Newport and every visit which is every other month, I always stop for Taffy here, I always like to shop small and support family owned businesses... this is now the third time I have been to the candy store side of this restaurant and every time the customer service has been awful, BUT today, the customer service was the worst!!! This fun area is situated across from La Quinta hotel and is paired with a chocolate shop. We went on a Saturday at 1:30ish 4th of July weekend and it wasn't very busy. We didn't wait at all to be sat and helped. We got garlic bread to start and then the clam chowder and the fish and chips (cod). My clam chowder was probably some of the best clam chowder I've ever had. The fries were really good and the spoon like shape was fun. The fish was a little dry but tasted fine. The garlic bread was on sourdough which I was hesitant about but it was actually pretty tasty. There's sports playing and a bar area but it's still family friendly. Didn't even get to try this place. We stepped in and a sign says "Please wait to be seated" made eye contact with one lady, than another. A couple walks in at the other entrance and the same ladies I made eye contact with actually went and said hi to them. I never think the worst. My husband (who is white) says jokingly "how racist" after about 10min...my family gets hangry to the point where they think this restaurant is being a little racist. The couple who came after us got greeted and sat before us. Why? Because my family except for my husband is Asian? I want an answer from this restaurant. Not the best not the worst and service was mixed. Came in on a Sunday night with maybe three tables filled around 5:30. We wanted to watch the Dodgers playoff game. Given the crowd or the lack there of at the hour, we sat at a large table near a TV and were asked to move to save for large groups. That being said there were more large group tables. So we are not off to a great start. The guy who served us was very nice and accommodating- not the original - hey move guy. As for the food, I had the clam chowder - nothing special and my wife had fish and chips as she described them as "fish sticks". Had a pretty limited choice of bear on tap so I had a can and my wife had tap. Would I go back, I think there may be better options but in a pinch maybe. read more

I just have to do another review. This is such a wonderful place. The service is always great, even when they are super busy. We were back in the area for three weeks and we tried a couple of other places but this is going to be our go to place when we are visiting here. I highly recommend the smoked salmon pesto Alfredo pasta. It is so amazing. My husband liked their fish and chips the best out of all the restaurants we tried. Their fries are so awesome, seems like they shave the potato some how to get the shape. This time we had the onion rings for an appetizer and they were made my very favorite way and they were wonderful. Super duper highly recommended this restaurant. Also, the candy store that is next door is amazing. Super great chocolate, love love the fudge. They make the candy there. The people are so very friendly and helpful read more

We came here after a trip to the aquarium. There was literally four ppl two cooks and two sitting ppl down getting orders and tending to the bar. And there were several tables full. We thought it would take a while but we were wrong! The service was great the guy was welcoming and always checking and make sure everything was good and asking if we needed anything. Our kids enjoyed their food and so did we! My two youngest ordered Mac N cheese and a grilled cheese which they enjoyed. My husband, oldest son and I ordered burgers and they were very delicious and filled us up! I sure didn't finish mines. The fries very good as well!
