Not sure if this China Fun is related to the China Fun that was in Carmel Mountain for an eternity. I stopped going to that China Fun years ago because it was dirty and clearly cluttered. A few months ago, a friend told me that this China Fun had opened and it was nice and clean. I decided to give it a try. My first visit was for lunch. The lunch specials are good because they come with a portion of rice and chow mein. Unfortunately, there is no eggroll or soup included with the lunch specials. I've had the General Tso's Chicken and it has really good flavor. I have also tried the sweet and sour chicken which I think doesn't have much flavor. Dinner portions are not huge but 2 people can share 1 dish. The fried chicken wontons are really good. Service can be spotty depending on who you get. There is one server who is lacking. He had forgotten our won tons and our entrees were already brought out. We asked him to check on them and he left and then never came back to tell us the status. We flagged down the other server and he told us they were quick to cook and then brought them to us. So, someone forgot but we will never know because our server never said a thing or apologized. I really enjoyed the sweet-and-sour shrimp. The shrimp were like jumbo shrimp and the sweet-and-sour flavor was so good. The shrimp was fresh. It was a great room temperature and the rice that came with. It was also fresh. Everything was hot and had a good flavor. Customer service was normal and good. They recently opened up here in the past year. I came here and met up with my friend for lunch. I was recommended to come here by a couple of friends that said it was really good. They have lunch specials and the food came out nice and hot. The restaurant was bright, clean, and inviting. We sat in the booth next to the window. I had the General Tao's orange chicken and my friend ordered the kung pao chicken. I ordered the chicken wings but it was overkill since I was full from the main entree. I believe the wings were cooked in duck fat and was almost too hot to handle. The server was good checking up on us and always filling our waters. Next time I'll bring the family. read more

Overall a nice option for Chinese American cuisine. We stopped by for lunch on a weekday. The lunch menu items are $11.99-12.99 and include a side of rice and noodles. The ambiance is casual and modern. We were immediately seated upon arrival and our food came out within minutes of ordering. The food was hot and tasty. Two issues: the peanuts were not crunchy :/ and the portions were small for both dine in and to go, so not ideal if you're really hungry or you'll have to order 2 items. I finished my plate within a few minutes. If they can make the peanuts crunchy and increase their portion size, this could be a regular stop for us. Until then, we may be going to our regular Chinese restaurants in the area that have bigger portions. read more

You can't even make it out , soggy and the egg young let's. say I never hit like this before so I'll try to fix it tomorrow but I had such high hopes for this place . this caused a pretty penny to be so disappointed. I am glad RB has a new restaurant in the area because there aren't enough options around. And the menu is quite diverse and portion sizes are large. The space inside is also very nice. Unfortunately, they're still working out a few kinks in the operation. I'm quite certain my food was cooked in the same wok as the shrimp that my family ordered, but I am allergic to seafood, so I had to deal with those symptoms for a couple days afterwards, and the other day they forgot to return my dad's credit card after he paid and he didn't realize it until the next day. Thankfully they held onto it and we got it back, but these are fairly basic service issues that I assume they will do better at over time. Just the same I'll probably hold off on going back until it looks like they've smoothed out a few wrinkles. read more

Having experienced a meh lunch at another branch of China Fun, we were not all that excited about a new one moving into our neighborhood. After reading many positive reviews, we decided to give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised. Not too large, but it appears that they do a huge takeout business. The physical plant itself is clean and sharply decorated, the front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming, there were several cooks one could see through an open window behind the front desk, and the service was almost immediate. For the two of us, it was not a big order, tasty vegetable egg rolls, an order I'd hours chow mein, with beef, chicken and shrimp, and an order of vegetable fried rice. Every bite was deliciously satisfying, and the servings were large for the prices, which in today's market, were quite moderate. They also have even lower cost lunch specials. The menu is lengthy. If you can't find something to eat here, you're probably not hungry. For the price, size, quality and location, we are very likely to return. read more

Portion is small based on the price, compared to the other restaurants in the area that serves similar type of cuisine, they seem kind of bland. I had some hope for this to be a hidden gem because this was one of an acquaintance's favorite restaurant before they moved to this location, but now I have to question this acquaintance's taste buds. read more

Ordered quite a few items from there to go. The crispy noodle was good. The serving is huge. The ingredients were generous. The beef with ginger and onion was a little sweet for my liking. I would've preferred it savory. The beef wasb tender but I felt there was way too much onion and ginger. The ratio of beef to filler was not great. The mapo tofu was actually good. A little kick to it. Lots of gravy for those who love grave. The tofu was as expected. The ground pork was tasty. We ordered a fried pork chop dish. This was my favorite. This restaurant borders more American-Chinese rather than authentic Chinese (as they offer forks when you sit down instead of chopsticks and they serve orange chicken) but the dishes were still pretty good. We ordered the orange chicken which was very crispy, lettuce chicken wraps which was my favorite, and fish fillet which was tender. Service was also really good and our waiter was super nice. This is a new Chinese restaurant in Rancho Bernardo. They also have one restaurant in Escondido that we have been to. What I like about this place is their food comes out quickly, fresh and hot. The restaurant in Rancho Bernardo is decorated nicely with a waterfall decor in the front. Their staff is very friendly. Their menu is quite extensive and lots of choices to order. We enjoyed all the foods we ordered but what I especially love about their menu is they have a healthy section option to choose from, which is basically vegetables and a meat/seafood of your choice. This is great if you are trying to eat healthy with non-greasy and low sodium food. I usually order the steamed vegetables with shrimp and it comes with white sauce on the side that you can add and this way you can control how much sauce to use. They give a lot of shrimp! Free sugar? OMG, the Beijing Beef was so sweet, we couldn't eat it, we ate the 2 pieces of broccoli it came with. Had no beef flavor, over fried and just poured syrup on top. It's a big FAT NO for me! I was driving through the Rancho Bernardo area and had the desire for some Chinese food. I saw this new place that I hadn't recognized before. So I decided to give them a try. This is my experience at China Fun - Rancho Bernardo. China Fun is a casual dining establishment with a fine-dining experience. They are a popular chain that can be found in neighboring cities and now they're in the heart of Rancho Bernardo. The first thing I noticed about this Chinese restaurant is that they had a very pretty aesthetic & ambience. As you enter their lobby, you'll be greeted with care and seated. In the lobby is a gorgeous waterfall fountain that showcases a beautiful mountain cliffside that is decorated with bonsai trees and mist. The seating area is pretty spacious and the table arrangements are perfect for families and some groups, but lacking any ample "separation" that may be desired by couples on dates. The lighting is nice and the sounds of the waterfalls echo throughout the room. Service was excellent and attentive. Their tables were spotless l, as well as the silverware and plates. The restrooms were super clean. There's a lot of detail that I appreciated, from the bonsai artwork etched in the plating, to the company brand name etched into the silverware. Food was good and came as expected. I ordered a simple almond chicken and it was on-par with many other establishments and was for a fair price for the portion size. My shrimp dumplings came at the end of my meal and that was disappointing, but I also didn't request them to come at the beginning either. The seafood soup was pretty good too and had chunks of shrimp & crab in it and had a nice spice to it, that would kick-in at the end of each bite. The salt n pepper chicken was also legit and I really enjoyed my meals. Overall, I like China Fun and I believe that they will do well at this location. *small note* DO NOT ATTEMPT TO ENTER the doorway that is located under their storefront sign. I went to China Fun with family for dinner. The ambiance is not good because the sounds just bounce off the floor and it's terrible. So there were four of us.... The waiter took all four orders and only delivered 3 dinners. It took at least five minutes to get the attention of the waiter with the funky hair. Then ten minutes more to get my dinner. By then everyone else was done with dinner. I ordered cashew chicken..... and the meal showed up finally WITHOUT the cashews. So we had to get the attention of someone again and ask for cashews. They finally showed up and they charged us extra for them ! To try and make things right the manager didn't do the right thing and take off the charge for the dinner - He brought us some burnt sesame balls or something. No way am I going back read more

I wanted to like this place more but it's off to a rocky start. I think there's a lot of potential to grow and it's a great location so I'll probably be back but for now 3 star. The front desk was chaos when we got there - there was a bunch of people waiting and there was plenty of tables so not sure what the holdup was. The tables and chairs were particularly nice and comfortable and I liked the theme. It was a little strange that the music playlist was pop hits from the last 10 years - it wasn't bad or too loud just an interesting choice. We ordered some dim sum and entrees. The Xiaolongbao was just ok and the BBQ pork buns had a bit too much breading. But overall not too bad. The boba was better than normal restaurants but just ok in general. The tough bit was, there were no plates or soup spoons for the xialongbao. They didn't offer to bring water and we struggled to flag anyone down to ask. Two of the three entrees came out immediately but the chow mein never did. We eventually asked, they went to the kitchen to check and 5 minutes later came back with a different dish. I was hungry and it was ok, but a strange mixup. The noodles were well cooked but lacked much flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was pretty good. Overall the prices were fair. The menu seemed like it is good so I suspect these are just growing pains. read more

Since China Fun opened, we've ordered from them at least a dozen times. Some weeks, we're there 3-4 times, and we still haven't gotten tired of the food because we keep trying new things. The quality is outstanding, portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. A huge shoutout to Nicole, the friendly face you'll often see helping with takeout or dine-in--she's so sweet and remembers our favorites, which makes every visit feel even more special. We've tried a ton of the menu, and here are some standouts: Mongolian Beef - The best Mongolian beef we've ever had. No overload of raw onions--just perfectly caramelized ones! Eggplant & Tofu - If you love a good savory eggplant dish, this is a must-try. Honestly, I prefer it over the eggplant from our favorite Thai spot! Black Pepper Chicken - A fantastic mix of crispy veggies and tender chicken with a peppery kick. Orange Chicken - My husband's new favorite orange chicken--crispy and not overly sweet. Sesame Chicken - A classic done right--crispy, well-coated, and paired with that signature sweet sauce. Fried Rice - We order this so much that even our 1.5-year-old asks for it at every meal! True story: we got fried rice from another restaurant last week, and she spit it out and refused to eat it. The next day, we got China Fun's fried rice, and she ate two bowls. That tells you all you need to know! Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings) - Whenever I'm craving dim sum, it's so nice to know they have har gow as an option. These dumplings are fresh, delicate, and absolutely delicious. Fried Chicken Wontons - Clearly made in-house, perfectly crispy, and so good with their Chinese mustard and sweet & sour sauce. Cream Cheese Wontons - A classic favorite, but China Fun makes them extra special with a delicious house sauce on the side. You cannot go wrong with these. Egg Drop Soup - Clean, simple, and comforting--especially when you're feeling under the weather. Every dish we've tried has been fantastic! First time trying this place. Just recently opened by my place. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and kind. I was incredibly shocked how fast the food came out. I had just took two sips of my Sapporo and the food was already at my table! The inside aesthetic and furniture are real nice and the place seemed extremely clean! Maybe because it's new but still, it felt like a clean environment. Let's get to the food. The food was amazing. I like Chinese food, but real good Chinese food unfortunately is so greasy. But that's what gives it its taste. This food however felt extremely clean. Not greasy at all yet had the best flavors. I ordered the chow mein and King Pao Chicken and it was delicious. I then had the "amazing" Honey Walnut Shrimp and it was by the far the best Honey Walnut Shrimp I have eaten. It was nicely breaded and the Shrimps were jumbo size with an excellent taste. This is going to be my new place for incredible Chinese food. Family who visit will have to try this without a choice. read more
