Since they opened another location in Durham, the wait has decreased significantly. Food: I order the yin/yang broth: one medium spiced tallo which is the traditional broth and the other either just bone broth until they came out with new organic mushroom broth! It is so good. You can order many different type of meat, seafood and veggies. I order prime thin beef, pork belly, quail eggs , wide noodles as standard and add others depending on mood. Shrimp and beef paste is a must. You can also order combination that includes appetizers, meat, veggie plates. There's sauce bar you can make your own sauce according to your preference. I'm sitting here with 3 kids (10-11yo) and another adult and have watched our table be passed by for non-Asian customers. Our server, an Asian lady walk by our table multiple times without once making eye contact...Yes, I've tried signaling and fanning our menu for attention. After seeing the 2 tables next to ours, who arrived after us, happily consuming their food, I just had enough and walked to the back with our order in hand. No apologies. And honestly, they might have spat into our food, but Asian on Asian discrimination is equally if not more unappetizing. This isn't new behavior for this place and I've let it slide in the past but to have the kids witness this discrimination is the last straw. WOW - blown away by great service, fun and lively ambiance, and excellent hot pot. First off, they are very busy, so expect to wait a bit after checking into the wait-list. We came on a Friday evening around 5PM, and only had to wait about half an hour, but the wait seemed much longer around prime dinner time. The person checked people in on the iPad and was actively managing the wait-list, so it seemed to run efficiently. They have an extensive menu, but they also offer combo deals so you don't have to choose yourself. We got the original bone broth, with sliced and marinated beef, and the veggie platter. The broth was so flavorful (without being overly salty), and was great to sip since it was a cold day outside. The beef and vegetables were fresh and plentiful. To dip your food in, they have a full sauce bar with your standard sauces like sesame, sa-cha, peanut, soy sauce, oils, hot sauce, peanuts, garlic, etc. which you can fill to your hearts content. Was visiting North Carolina for a weekend trip and found ourselves craving hot pot. This place had some pretty good reviews and man did the food live up to the expectation! The sauce bar is pretty extensive with fresh ingredients, a variety of sauces and oils. Really brings out the potion making skills in you. First, we chose our pot size of Yin-Yang where you get to pick two soup flavors. Next, we chose our broth flavors and spice levels of the Beef Tallow Mala at Medium Spice Level and Chicken Stock with Mushrooms. After, we chose the cooked and uncooked items to put into our hot pot. We chose: braised beef, tripe, quail eggs, pork belly, enoki mushroom, prime beef, tenderloin, beef meatballs, fish balls, tofu, napa cabbage, watercress, winter melon, and corn. Picking the noodles is one of my favorite parts; I chose glass vermicelli, green bean vermicelli, and udon. BEEF TALLOW MALA Satisfying mala flavor, some places have a mild mala, but this was perfect, not too oily and the beef tallow was fresh, there wasn't any weird taste to it which can happen if it isn't fresh. CHICKEN STOCK WITH MUSHROOMS Such an underrated soup, truly would drink this on its own. A perfect break from the spicy mala and really flavorful for such simple ingredients. Everything came out reasonably fast for a place that was pretty packed. The staff were so friendly and attentive, it was a great place for a party of six. All the meat was prepared fresh and presented beautifully. This is one of my first reviews where my photos really don't show everything I ordered and enjoyed. I definitely ate before the camera for one of the few times in my life. Everything was just soooo delicious and I really just dove right in haha. Came for lunch on a Friday with my family and we were all very satisfied! We ordered their limited-time special of prepared lamb stew, which was very flavorful. I think it's quite a thoughtful setup to have a side table with shelves next to the table, which keeps our table less crowded and makes it easy for us to clear used plates away. Beware they get really crowded for dinner and on weekends - even though we were there for lunch most tables were occupied. It was our first time at an authentic Chinese hot pot restaurant, and Szechuan Mansion Hotpot in Cary did not disappoint. We ordered Combo A for two, and it was more than enough food. It was easily enough for two people, maybe even three, and we came with a hearty appetite. We chose the bone broth, loaded up on fresh vegetables, and ordered the incredible sweet rice cakes, which are deep fried, dusted with brown sugar, and served with a rich brown sugar dipping sauce. We also tried the marinated beef and grilled chicken, both of which were tender and flavorful. The menu explains the spice levels really clearly, and there is a full sauce bar where you can mix your own dipping sauce, so whether you like mild or super spicy, it is completely up to you. We went around 4 PM, and there were already four or five other parties. By the time we were finishing up, it was getting really busy, so if you prefer a quieter experience, it is probably best to come earlier. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is attentive, and this place is perfect for a date night or a fun group dinner. We highly recommend Szechuan Mansion Hotpot. read more

We had 3 people and decided on the combo for 2-3 people, which ended up being more than enough. Tonight was my first time ever having hot pot!! The service was okay, however I wish the waitress had provided more of an explanation on the menu, portion sizes, and the hot pot process in general since my family and I didn't really know what we were doing. There was a whole sauce bar in the back that we were unaware of - happened to discover it on my way to the bathroom. We ordered 2 broth bases to try. My sister specified level 1 spicy, (the lowest level) for the broth she chose, but when it came out it ended up being extremely spicy to the point that we couldn't eat it at all so that was disappointing. Thankfully, the other broth we chose was delicious and not spicy at all. Overall, the ingredients seemed fresh and I really enjoyed the chicken broth, ramen, rice cakes, mushrooms, and chicken. First time here, went for lunch and easy to get a table for four. Loved how we could have two different broths, so opted for the spicy beef tallow and mushroom broths. Then came the meats and veggies; tongue, 2 types of pork belly, spicy marinated beef, chicken, fish, shrimp balls and chicken balls. Also had cabbage, spinach, bok choy, enoki mushrooms, and pumpkin. The condiment bar for dipping your meats into was insanely comprehensive, including but not limited to sesame oil, soy sauce, cilantro, chili paste, ground peanuts, garlic, scallions and barbecue paste. I just found this spot! Suprised nobody ever mentioned it to me. I have been here twice . Both times I ordered carry out. The first time, I ordered the house chicken and fried rice. The fried rice had some spam in it. Not my thing... The chicken was spiced correctly and tasted amazing. The second time was on a Saturday. It was so crowded. We've been here quite a few times over the years and I'll say, this is hands down the best hot pot in the area. Having lived in the New York City metro area most of my life, this place rivals and is even better than the best hot pot places there as well. I usually come with my family and sometimes friends as well, and the ying yang (pick two broths) is often the way to go, so we can mix and cook both spicy and non-spicy items. The hot pot combos have plenty of meat selection mixed in and also come with appetizers (we love the crispy popcorn chicken) and egg fried rice, which is great for our two young kids. Service (speed of food, refills on water, anything else we may need) is always attentive and I've even been given a free appetizer when I had to wait an unusually long time for my lunch once. Finally, if it's just my wife and I eating for lunch, we actually prefer the underrated spicy dry pot for two both to be efficient on time and well, it's absolutely delicious. read more

We visited your restaurant last night to celebrate our son earning his PhD. My son, his girlfriend, and my daughter ordered hot pot, while my husband and I ordered dry pot. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The dry pot was not good quality, and despite our clear request for it to be very mild, it was far too spicy for me to eat more than a couple of bites. I ended up eating only a few spoonfuls of rice. The plum drink also had an unpleasant, unexpected flavor--closer to mesquite barbecue than anything resembling a fruit drink. The most serious issue was with the service and handling of the hot pot. We told the server several times that my daughter is vegetarian. The pot was split into regular and vegetarian sides, yet when food was brought, the server placed meat into both broths. Even as we protested, she proceeded, then simply tried to remove the meat as if that solved the issue. It did not. A vegetarian cannot consume broth that has had meat cooked in it. This mistake is not only careless, it is harmful. As a result, my daughter--who made her needs clear--has now become very sick. This is unacceptable and could have been avoided with attentiveness and proper understanding of dietary restrictions. What was meant to be a celebratory evening turned into a deeply frustrating and upsetting experience for our family. read more

I was visiting some friends in North Carolina and we came for a Saturday lunch. Even though the place looked positively packed, our party of 5 only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. We ordered a bunch of stuff to add into our yin-yang flavor pot as well as several items on the non-hotpot menu. Surprisingly, my favorite items in the whole meal were the non-hotpot items. The egg fried rice and braised pork belly were absolutely delicious, and the crispy popcorn chicken was great as well. In terms of the actual hotpot, I thought the pork bone broth could've had a stronger flavor. It felt a little watered down to me. In the meat category, the prime beef we got didn't have sufficient marbling and looked just okay. However, the pork belly was great. The sauce bar was comprehensive and allowed us to make whatever concoction we wanted. Overall, the restaurant itself is well-decorated but some parts did look older / in need of being replaced. Service was okay, we didn't require nor get much attention. I'm very pleased with the prices here. Maybe it's just because I'm not from the area, but being able to feel full for under $25 a person at hot pot is amazing! If I'm in the area again, I will definitely consider visiting again. My husband has been raving about this place for months and I finally got to try it this weekend! From first impressions, the ambiance is better than other hotpot spots in the area for a few reasons: 1) the decor 2) the layout of the seating and 3) the spacing between each of the tables. This doesn't seem that important but when you go to a place where it's cramped and uncomfortable, you'll see why this place is a step up. The service was spot on! Our server not only recommended meats, but he also brought us a traditional sauce concoction that he likes to share with first timers! Once we touched down at Raleigh-Durham airport, we were greeted with 40 degree weather and got whisked away to warm our bellies with hotpot. I'm impressed with their wide selection of soup broths (including vegetarian options) and lots of meat, seafood, and vegetable options. We ordered the Original Bone Broth and it was so flavorful with pork, beef, and chicken bones. Everything was presented neatly on cute bamboo platters. We got around 11-12 slices of meat per order (sliced beef eye round and sliced organic chicken). The handmade beef meatball and fish ball (with pork filling) was worth ordering. You gotta check out the AYCE sauce station. Dozens of sauce selections and toppings. The possibilities are endless. I always love me some peanut sauce, sacha sauce, cilantro, and garlic. Tip: Don't come wearing your best attire. You'll most likely splatter some soup or sauce on your shirt and pants, and your clothes will be infused with the hotpot aroma (wish there was a better ventilation system). I stuck with my faves: shrimp, sliced beef, braised pork intestines, braised beef tendons, meatballs (variety) and bok choy. The portions are huge and very fresh. Usually things aren't spicy enough. I urge you to stick with mild for the beef tallow broth. My mouth was tingling! Spicy without the upset stomach or tushy. Of course I over-ordered. Good news is you can take home your leftovers. That's very unusual. The very nice server added a bit of broth, cooked all the leftovers then put it all in a microwaveable tub! I got two more meals & the beef and meatballs were tender. In need of a a boiling vat of hot broth on a cold day, my wife, brother in law, and I chose Szechuan Mansion Hotpot in Cary. We initially planned to patronize a nearby, more popular hot pot place but were dissuaded by the one hour wait during peak weekend lunch hours. In contrast, while Szechuan Mansion was busy, a table was immediately available for our party of four. The restaurant specializes in Szechuan style hot pot which is more oily and loaded with the signature numbing peppercorns. We opted for a half and half broth with the spicy tallow and spicy vegetarian broths. My family are spice fanatics and the broths delivered. The tallow broth brought the heat with an ample dousing of spicy hot chilis and electric Sichuan pepper. Pace yourself when eating this broth, as the tingly quality of the broth hits you hard. If you have vegetarian diners in your party, don't sleep on the vegetable broth. While a little thinner in body, we found it no less spicy or flavorful than its carnivorous counterparts. We found the actual ingredients of the hot pot to be of a decent quality. Highlights included sliced lamb, homemade shrimp paste, and the chicken dumplings. While Szechuan Mansion serves the standard veggies and meats, the selection here runs a little tighter than I like. Some of my beloved hot pot items (such as handmade noodles and fish roe stuffed fish balls) are not offered, which felt disappointing. That being said, the sauce bar in the back of the restaurant adds variety and the sauce ingredients all tasted fresh. Service here was so-so, and the waitstaff overall seemed a little annoyed when we pointed out that we received an item we didn't order and when we asked for some extra utensils. Also, the layout of the positioning of the hot pots on the tables is suboptimal, which can lead to elbowing your dining companions and cramped quarters. It can also get pricey here and we ended up spending about $30 per person. Despite these drawbacks, we really enjoyed our hot pot experience here in its unique offering of predominantly Sichuan flavors.
