Sautéed Chinese vegetables, Hot Pot with chicken, eggplant & salted fish
    Surelyne L.

I've passed by this nondescript gas station strip mall many times but for whatever reason, never gave Taipei Cafe a try. I've definitely been missing out! It's a standard Chinese restaurant...no frills because the food speaks for itself. Service was quick even though they were clearly shorthanded. Food was overall very good and well seasoned. The only disappointment was that the Kaufu was a bit too cold like they just defrosted it instead of being at room temp.

    Peking duck
    Linny L.

I always order Peking duck to go from Taipei Cafe, it is not 100% authentic but good enough. The sauce is straight to the point, but the wrap is more like a tortilla instead of the flat bread for Peking duck. If you take it home and reheat it with air fryer, the duck skin becomes crunchy. And they get rid of the fatty part so the duck doesn't have the stinky flavor. The dining area is pretty small, but clean! They have a big round table, and couple small tables, their seat might be limited.

Salted fish and chicken fried rice
    Buddha N.

So decided to eat in and wanted something near by so tried out Taipei Cafe and definitely was not disappointed. These are not on the menu items but definitely call to order it Salted fish and chicken fried rice - very good and not overly salty like other places and rice was cooked perfectly Salt and pepper fish filet - nice fry and nicely seasoned and delicious Salted Egg Yolk Lava ribs - subtle salted egg yolk flavor but definitely yummmy Definitely going to try other items

Spicy beef tendon hotpot & general Tsos
    Samantha W.

Came here for the first time and so glad we did. We got the general Tsos chicken. It was delicious and had a small kick. We also got the spicy beef tendon hotpot. This was delicious. It is the middle of summer but I imagine this tasting very good in the winter as well. The service was great. Our waitress was very sweet and fast. The ambiance is a little bit like a hole in the wall but that's what makes it so great!

The scallion pancake is super crispy with unbelievably tender beef inside & perfect amount of sweetness from the hoisin sauce. - Griddle Chicken with Mixed Vegetables: I've never eaten anything like this before, and absolutely loved it. Loved all the spices- cumin, fennel, doubanjiang- & the mala essence; the crispy, tender chicken; and the variety of vegetables, especially the lotus root. - Shrimp Ho-Fun: The shrimp were tender & the wide rice noodles have such a fun, bouncy texture; a flavorful dish. - Spicy Boiled Fish: The fish was super flaky; Taipei 101's version of this has a bit less mala flavor than I like, but this was still tasty. - Chinese Braised Pork: The pork was tender with a good amount of fat and I appreciated the bok choy, but it was a bit too sweet for me. Ambiance is nice, lots of tables. Service was fast. There are parking spots in front of the restaurant, but a little limited in number. 10/10 would recommend!

The vegetable lo mein was just as underwhelming, with only a small amount of carrots, scallions, and broccoli, lacking real flavor while somehow being overly salty. We also ordered the eggplant with basil, but the sauce was thick, overly sticky, and tasted more like sugar than anything else. I can't understand how this could be considered authentic. The lunch special pricing is definitely the main draw, and it's hard to beat for the amount of food you get. That said, the execution is a bit mixed. The General Tso's chicken was very bready, with not as much actual chicken as I would've liked, which took away from the overall experience. Another downside is that they've removed the free soup that used to come with the lunch special. It's a small thing, but it did add value before and is missed. One more thing for me is that they have no ice, so you are having luke warm water or drinks. Overall, it's not bad for a quick, affordable meal, but there are enough small drawbacks that it lands more in the average category. Decent value, just not something that stands out.

There is a bit of everything: milk teas, slushes, bubble waffles, and noodles. I've tried the Mango Sago, Taro Milk Tea, and the Takoyaki. The mango sago was very subtle in flavor, it would have been nice to have a stronger mango flavor..after all, it is in the name! The taro milk tea was really good and was recommended by the cashier, but the honey tapioca pearls were all stuck together and too soft rather than chewy. Then there's the takoyaki..I also found it too soft. It was more creamy in texture than others I've had. Inside was super cute with the warm lighting and casual seating. It's a great place to meet up with friends. I'll come back to try other items, but for now I think I'll wait a little longer for the kinks to be worked out, as they are still new.

There is ice cream to buy for a $1 if your tongue is feeling the burn after all that hot food. So we loved it overall but here's the room for improvement - bathroom had soap but it was watered down and floor on the restaurant felt wet or bit slippery. Perhaps all the people taking soup around so had to be a bit careful. The app and menu is a bit complicated I wish it was updated to make it simpler. The app doesn't show which items have been ordered and delivered vs new ones you're adding so it can get confusing. We went on a rainy Sunday, and it wasn't crowded when we went. The ambiance was inviting with comfortable & quality furnitures in an area illuminated by tiny studio-style lights while the soothing piano music helps create a relaxing atmosphere you rarely find in a milktea cafe. Tiny potted cacti on coffee tables, artificial plants by the windows, and a beautiful wall of leaves with pink roses add to the ambiance's visual appeal. There was still a Christmas tree standing with tea gift boxes below it, but the family of employees took it down before we left. The young cashier was friendly and answered our questions about our 2 orders well. I got the Taro Iced Blend with Pudding (50% sweetness level) and my girl got the Coffee Crema (50% sweetness level, less ice). No kiosks here, and I wasn't sure if reward points went through, but no major issues when ordering. At least not for our drinks. The cashier informed us that boba won't be ready for an hour, but thankfully, neither of our drinks have boba, so we didn't have to wait long. We sat on 1 of the 2 coffee-colored couches, and tasted each other's drinks. The Iced Blend Taro was perfectly blended with the pudding. As someone else suggested on Yelp, 50% sweetness level is just right, and the amount of ice, pudding, and taro is fine. Though it's on a pricier end compared to other taro drinks from other cafes ($7.75). My girl also enjoyed my drink. This is probably the 4th best Taro drink I've tasted in the Triangle area, only topped by the taro drinks of Milk Lab, Meet Fresh & Grand Asia market's fresh taro blend. I'll always rank organic taro flavors over powdered ones but Sharedtea's blend is a must-try for taro lovers. The Coffee Crema tasted like an upgraded Vietnamese iced coffee with a creamy taste, and my girl and I enjoyed it. We both agreed it's one of the best iced coffees you can find in the Triangle. It's mildly sweet with the perfect amount of cream to make its taste unbeievaby rich. Both drinks only come in 1 size but it's adequate.. Their menu offers a lot of various milk teas, pearl teas, fruit teas, fresh milk, iced blends, and they even have mojito tea. However, like and unlike many tea spots, they don't have popcorn chicken or other Taiwanese-inspired snacks here. Nonetheless, the first 2 drinks we tried and the overall positive experience we got from Sharetea's welcoming ambiance and friendly customer service made us want to return again. Perhaps we'll try other drinks but it's tough not to order either of these 2 again. Overall Score: 4.2/5
