I couldn't believe some of these bad reviews that I have read so I decided to pull over because I love me a good pastry. Here I go walking in on a beautiful Saturday morning 7:35am took a glimpse of all the pastries and this wonderful women comes out with a good morning no bad attitude felt her good energy the "beautiful Saturday morning continues " it hasn't been broken yet. Anyways order two chocolate rolls *don't know what they're called* she asked if I like chocolate I responded with a yes she smiles at me and tells me she'll get me fresh ones from the back but unfortunately they weren't ready so she asked if I liked cheese ? And I sure do ! She bagged me a warm fresh cheese pastry gave her a $5 tip that she wouldn't accept but idc . I'm a food critic! And some of the reviews might have scared some people away over bad customer service comments. Ok back to my review, I get in my car and took a bite of the warm cheese pastry and it tasted good! You can instantly tell when a pastry is fresh from the first bite ! So yes I will be returning for fresh chocolate rolls & I rate this bakery a 10/10 and maybe start supporting small family owned businesses and give them a break this economy is so bad everyone deserves chances! read more

I got some beef tongue and a pastry filled with lamb. The beef tongue was meh to me. After I heated it up, it carried a strong smell that kind of bothered me. Flavor wise it was good but a bit too oily for me taste. The pastry, on the contrary, was super good! I heated it up in the oven and finished it in 3mins. The outside was perfectly crisp and the lamb inside was flavorful and juicy. These combination of carbs, meat and a bit of fat was very hard to resist, especially when the flavors were on point. People are quick to cite Stolichnya Bakery as the premier Russian bakery in West Hollywood, but I think that is due more to their plum location next to Whole Foods than to the excellence of their goods. IMO, a better Russian bakery hides right across the street on Santa Monica Blvd. Tbilisi & Yerevan Bakery is, for my money, the better destination for dark, Russian pumpernickel, crusty Rye and fluffy Challa breads, as well as classic Russian-- especially Georgian-- sweets. From the simplicity of a Syrniki right out of the fryer, crispy mille feuille treats like torpedoes stuffed with tvorog and raisins, plus all your Pirogi and Pirozhki needs, both savory and sweet, Tbilisi & Yerevan is legit, fresh and good. Their no-pressure counter staff are courteous and helpful, but not pushy. Sure, they've got delicious baked goods such as breads, cookies and other sweets. And it's not just plain bread, it's bread stuffed with cheese or swirls of sweet and savory seasonings. But they've also got great home-made foods, side dishes, and meats. You could literally buy an entire meal here. Maddy and I split two gigantic ground chicken stuffed bell peppers with bean and walnut salad and bread. Yum. All that came to $15 and we ate it all day. I also like that they named the "bakery" for the capitals of Georgia and Armenia, two Christian nations that are traditionally bound by their struggles of fighting off larger neighboring countries. IMO the best bread in LA I have been able to find in 25 years. Cheap as dirt as they cater to poor Eastern Europeans, many Russian. The bread is always fresh as they take their day old bread and mark it down to about half price. Pastries look great yet have not tried them. The peroshkies, stuffed meat pastry, are delicious. I like the egg and mushroom although their meat ones are also tasty. I drive way out of my way to go here, combining the visit with Odessa Grocery. I go out of my way to travel all the way here from Santa Monica for the rare selection of certain Eastern European foods here. My favorite thing here are the Cheburekki, reminds me of the ones I ate in Ukraine as a child. The bread is amazing. Try any one of their many varieties and you will not be disappointed. They have a Grey Bread (Syerei), which is somewhat of a pumpernickel but lighter in color. It is fantastic and simply divine with Easter European dishes such as borscht or zharkoye (kind of like a paprigash). They also make a mean ciabata bread which doesn't taste like a cabana should, but is absolutely delicious regardless of the fact that it isn't CIABATA. So what who cares? Their pirizhkie-yummmmmm. I have loved this place for years! I discovered it when I used to work in the area. Parking is terrible but its worth it to park a block or two away and walk. I don't frequent as much because I live far away now, but I have no problem on occasion to take a long drive down there and buy a bunch of goodies to last me awhile. The first thing you see when you walk into the door are fabulous baked breads of all types that line the pantry. These are authentic and fresh breads. It's like traveling to Eastern Europe without the hassle from TSA or long airport layovers. lol The desserts are wonderfully good too. Not too sweet or over processed but not heavy like those fancy health food recipes where everything tastes like a granola bar. Disappointed. Drove to this bakery all the way from Manhattan Beach. We bought 2 types of pastries and both were stale. We had to disposed of both items.
