    Scallion pancake with vegetable wrap
    Hannah W.

We were in Northampton on graduation weekend, and had difficulty getting into good restaurants, so had to settle for this one, upon recommendation from our daughter's non-Asian professor. No trouble getting seated. One puts down order at the downstairs counter, pays for it, and waits at one's table. Service was definitely fast and efficient. We were a party of 4 - 2 herbivores and 2 carnivores. The rice paper vegetable roll was the best tasting out of all the dishes we ordered. Scallion pancake with vegetable wrap was innovative but a bit dry. Spicy Tofu salad was very salty, and the vegetable tofu curry was quite bland. Report about the beef noodle and shrimp fried rice was also just adequate. I guess we were just happy that we didn't go hungry that night :-).

Honestly was pretty impressed that there was even a Taiwanese place in Northampton so had to try it out! Came on a weekday lunch and had to wait a bit before there was any table space as the place was packed. I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup and I thought it was okay. The soup felt like it was more soy-sauce based which I didn't mind so much with the noodles. I felt like the bok choy was a bit undercooked and the beef wasn't particularly tender. I did appreciate that ordering and the delivery of food was extremely quick. Also, I have to say that I'm pretty impressed by how expansive their menu was of different Taiwanese dishes that signifies that this restaurant is actually opened by Taiwanese people. Overall, T. Roots is not the best tasting Taiwanese food you will ever have but it can definitely satisfy a flavor craving. Also, this place was a fast and cheap lunch which I always appreciate.

Delighted to find this restaurant in Northampton. Fast service and flavors are mostly on point. The Pork and Duck Egg Congee hits the spot when I was craving some comfort food. Look forward to trying more dishes next time!

I eat a lot of Asian food, thought this is some of the worst I have had. Lacking flavor, hardly any authenticity and a very strange menu. Alm I can figure is there is not much of an Asian community hear driving good authentic food. Spicy wontons, sweet almost no spice and verging on being cold Taiwan cabbage there were a couple choices of preparation, the garlic stir fry was flavorless and not very special at all The chicken wings we were asked various prep options we picked Thai, wow it had hot and sweet Thais chili sauce and FYI that doesn't make it Thai...the wings didn't have anything special to be anything Thai about it The eggplant and chicken was good but still really lacking flavor The soup dumpling aka: Shanghai dumplings barely beyond slightly warm - weird because normally in most places you need to wait a while to eat or you would burn your mouth badly Udon noodle was average at best not bad but not great - this was reasonable in flavor but noodle quality was less than average maybe it's packaged noodle and not fresh Recommend: NO Would I go back: NO Cleanliness: Good Bathroom: Good Service: Average Atmosphere: Non Taiwanese and very contemporary could be anything Sorry but a 1star is all I'll give

Had an amazing meal here and was stoked to find good bubble tea here as well as food that reminded me of home. The fried rice was done perfectly and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Reminded of my mom's cooking. Highly recommend this spot!!

Formosa has an affordable lunch menu, and even on busy days has delivered my meal within ten minutes. Don't be astounded yet, because I would easily wait twenty minutes for this food. When their food arrives from the delicious variety of their lunch specials, you will be treated to crispy tofu, a nuanced spice for chili or jalapeño meals, or fresh vegetables that will make you wonder: who is introducing you to the best cuisine that southeast Asia has to offer? Sichuan meals, Mandarin meals, and even with a Miso soup that is vibrant and delicate in flavor, you may not have any difficulty in deciding at all because any meal you choose will be cooked with what tastes like generations of expertise, love, and wisdom. It is not possible to follow a recipe, or a video, or a shopping trip and recreate the food at the level of Formosa, nor at the price of Formosa, and I say this after years of enjoying their meals. If you are in the area and you are hungry, you will want to visit Formosa as it is an unbelievably satisfying trip for almost any person in the continental USA, and likely for international travelers from near and far. Please tip your staff generously and leave a review to share this love--there is no amount of business they can do that will do the history and delight in their food justice. Their food is accessible to the local public, and they also donate to local causes as well. Amherst has more than universities that educate people here, they have restaurants with generations of stories and wisdom in every meal. You'll be amazed at the silky luxury their hot and sour soup is, with a texture matching the fresh micro mushrooms inside. Be prepared and humble, the staff are dedicated, responsible, and attentive to the public as much as they can. I would love to read a book about the story of this restaurant some day.

Sidewalks were torn up but the place is hard to find with lack of signage. We were able to get seated right away, and looked through their digital menu. We got a smattering of dishes, wontons and dumplings, a sandwich and a ramen. Food came out in a reasonable wait time. We took pics and dug in. The 7 flavor dumpling was the star of the show. Light and thin dumpling wrapper, savory sweet sauce, plenty of filling. The pork dumplings were good, but the wrapper was thicker and denser. The twice cooked pork sandwich was pretty tasty, the pork needed to be more present compared to the veggies, but appreciated the crisp of the bread. The ramen had a good amount of braised beef and noodles. The broth needed a little doctoring to coax out some of the more savory notes. Broth needed more aggressive seasoning though. The price was not too bad for the area. It's kind of like dim sum, where you get a small plate for the price but it's all shareable and the flavors are good. It's not very well lit, gave the place a very dark air about it. But as a restaurant, it's pretty good. There's a lot of great places in that area, and this one's a good option if you're looking for small plates.

Inside is beautifully decorated, clean and staff was friendly and welcoming. Food was delicious, not everything was a home run - but not everything on a menu can be. The flavors were on point but a couple missteps in execution. But a solid 4-4.5. Our favorite dish was the seven flavor wontons. Wontons were super tender and flavors were on point. The spicy beef ramen was really good, but the broth was oily and too thin for our liking. We added some soy and asked for some hoisin - which made a big difference. Overall, We will definitely be back and try more menu items.

I simply cannot imagine ordering anything other than their Curry Ramen bowl from this point forward. Like one would legitimately be insane not to get it, provided you are an average fan of standard Thai-style curries like Red, Panang, or even Las Vegas style Three-color (Red+Green+Yellow). My suggested mod: Ask for your home-crafted noodles a little extra "QQ" or chewy al dente. And ask for a side of their home-made chili oil to step up the Szechuan influence. Normally I shun the fusion or "new-style" menu items, but this Curry Ramen bowl is stuff of dreams.
