Despite having a breakfast menu, T-Town did not open until 10:30AM on a weekend. There was already a long line forming at the door, which may explain our mediocre service. Their breakfast specials are minimal-- just a few egg, pancake/french toast plate, and sausage/bacon plate options. I opted to order from their lunch menu and got blackened pork chops, cornbread, sweet potato casserole, and collard greens. The food was fine, but nothing special. The sweet potato casserole was loaded with marshmallows, which I could have done without. You do get a lot of food for a great price. Although our service was very kind and helpful, the two of us that ordered lunch got our food about 15 minutes before the three that ordered breakfast. Our waiter was very apologetic about it. Ttown cafe is one of my favorite places to stop for breakfast. The eggs are always perfectly cooked (and I'm SUPER picky about my over well eggs) and Sarah is always super attentive. I love the pancakes, they are the perfect consistency, and with crispy edges. They give SO much syrup which may be great for some, although I use half of one container for my whole stack. The biscuit was a little hard, but we also came in at 10:25 and it was the last biscuit of the day. I didn't mind because the gravy smothered that bad boy. With the gravy that good, you'd probably be able to smother a shoe with it and eat it...lol The place is nothing fancy, but it's nice and clean. I waited about five minutes for a staff member to escort me to a table; however, no one ever acknowledged my presence despite two wait staff seeing me standing waiting! Great diversion from the interstate. Only 3 miles off I-20 and a real local place with a good chef. The country-fried steak and gravy was delis along with the pinto beans cornbread and hush puppies a real southern meat and 2 (or 3)!! Visited T-Town Cafe for a bite to eat about a week ago. It's solid country cooking. You order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. Other reviewers complained about service taking too long, but they were pretty busy the day we came and still got our food out to us in about 10 minutes. The waitress also noticed that I was given barbeque sauce instead of ranch, and she ran back and grabbed ranch for me without my asking, so points to service there. We both had fried chicken tenders. For sides, we chose French fries, sweet potato casserole, fried okra, and Mac and cheese. I had sweet tea to drink, and it was perfectly southern. The chicken tenders were good enough, maybe a little small. House made ranch made for good dipping. The sweet potato casserole was loaded with spices. Nice and flavorful, but a little too one-note on the texture, like whipped potatoes. The Mac and cheese had an extra sharp cheddar taste. Fried okra was a touch slimy but serviceable. Fries had seasoning on them but were served cold and hard. Lastly, we both had the cheddar biscuit - I'd recommend skipping that. Flavorless and cold. The atmosphere is sort of homestyle, and the restaurant seats a lot of people. It's close to campus, and the food is alright. My girlfriend and I came here for lunch and we were really surprised! You order your food at the register and then they hand you a ticket and bring your food to you when it's ready. I got the burger and fries and it was okay. I could tell that the fries weren't fresh which was a bummer. On the other hand, the burger was pretty good! My wife and I stopped here on our way through. We were actually going to another restaurant and passed T Town. It looked very local so we turned, and glad we did. When we first walked in there was a line of locals, all for a company lunch. The cashier waved for us to come around to another line order cashier. My wife got the 4 veggie plate, and me, the pot roast with mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and home made bread pudding. OMG, it all was very delicious! What a lovely cafe that serves as an ideal balance between a group of friends on a college night or for the family during the day. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. The interior resembles your typical Southern restaurant in Alabama but their selling point is the patio. There's plenty of seating available so don't worry about finding a spot for you and your group. They have many drink specials around all the time so be sure to catch them when they come around. I ordered the pimento cheese and soup combo. The pimento cheese was delicious and lukewarm (not sure if it's supposed to be that way) but I enjoyed it. It helped that the bread reminded me of how my mom used to make a sandwich with even more butter. The chili was good. The price of $7.50 was reasonable for this combination. There are other options including burgers and sandwiches for the boys, and salads and mouth-watering cakes for the girls. It's been over a year since I last wet the beak with a Tuscaloosa food review. I want to tell you that I've gotten my life together since, but after 4 straight nights in the boom boom room, I can't tell you in good faith that I'm going anywhere in life other than to the bathroom or back to bed. If it seems complicated now, bare with me, it's a bit of a slow burn, but the payoff is worth it. Nashville hot chicken tenders, mac, fries, bread pudding, cheddar biscuit, and a virgin John Daly. That's an Arnold Palmer for those of you with absolutely zero culture. I was not actually with a virgin named John. His name was Josh, and Austin for that matter, but they're not the stars of this review. I am, and I'm not a virgin. (I winked, but you can't see that obviously, and I don't use emoji's). Anyways, this shit was bangin. It had it all. The chicken was hot, the mac was cheesy, and the entire plate had the potential to erase a well deserved hangover. I had everything right in my hands. Do you see where I'm going with this yet? The meal is the girl in the situation. It's there, it's beautiful, and probably had no business talking to me, the walking hangover, surrounded by church crowds that were most likely using me as an example for their kids on why it's important to repent. Anyways, I did something that I'm not proud of- I didn't finish my plate. I couldn't. It wasn't that it was too much food, or that there was anything bad about it. I just- I don't know what to tell you, I just couldn't pull the trigger and clean the plate. Instead, I left it on the table, and walked out embarrassed, confused with myself, and my lack of being able to finish the job. I didn't even ask for a box. Why wouldn't I at least get it to go? (That should have hopefully landed as a metaphor for not getting a girl's number, but if you missed it, that's on me). Point is, this food is good. Like really good. That's not really the point but I have to relate this back to food somehow. The real point is I don't know how to act in front of girls at bars. I'm genuinely sorry if you are reading this expecting a legitimate cafe review. I just needed a place to voice my rant and my parents don't follow me on Yelp. Orders filled incorrectly or items routinely omitted. They serve multiple fish entrees but don't have cocktail sauce available. Used to have homemade tartar sauce now serve cheap version. Portions have been significantly reduced. Some of vegetable sides served cold i.e. cold collards ...yuck. Had to ask server multiple times for essentially everything. No dinner knives available. Want to start by saying, I have been here many times and normally love the food. I usually love the catfish. It used to be 3 little strips fried just perfect. Today is was NOT the same fish and that is why I went there. It was 1 big hunk of fish and the batter was just not the same. I was very disappointed especially for $13 and this did not include a drink. My fried green tomato's were so small it barely made 2 pieces. My waitress was great and got me more tomato's. So the first time I tried TTown was incredible. First off, the people there (waitstaff) were incredibly nice. I'm so used to rude service and that's what I expected, but lord let me tell you. They were so nice. Also, it's one of those hole in the walls. Like it's small and it wasn't busy at all when we went. But the food was hot and delicious. And the price. I'm a college student so cheaper the better, and I expected subpar food for the price. Oh no. It is great food. You can tell that the cooks and staff really care about their jobs. Fun place to go for home cooking! Very reasonably priced for large portions. You can choose from their daily specials or a regular menu. I normally try to come by here whenever I am in town. I got here at lunch time and ordered pot roast, black eyed peas and rice with gravy. I waited a little bit longer than usual for it and when it got to the table, everything was room temperature. The Black Eyed Peas were almost cool so I asked the waitress if I could have some hot black eyed peas and also told her that everything else was barely warm. She brought the peas and I finished the meal. I may give this cafe one more try, but the lack of hot food plus the personnel not offering to reheat everything was discouraging. When we came over for the Alabama gymnastics meet last Friday, we saw that the new T-Town Cafe had opened, and gave it a shot. Glad we did! Everything about this experience was wonderful! My problem with T-Town is that I always go around 10am (I'm not an early bird) when they are beginning to shift from breakfast to lunch, and they always always always mess up my food. I ordered a breakfast biscuit sandwich + biscuits and gravy. After waiting 40 minutes I'm told they're out of biscuits and do I want to replace the biscuits and gravy with something else. I say, "What about my other biscuit sandwich?" and as it turns out they already made the executive decision to put the biscuit sandwich on white bread without asking me. Ultimately they were kind enough to give me a refund, but a variation of this situation has happened at least two times before. Listen, I like the food! It's good comfort food...but if you're going here, go here EARLY for breakfast or AFTER lunch starts, because the transitional period seems chaotic, and they're always going to be out of biscuits despite the menu still being displayed. read more

First of all, the food is good. It's not great, but it's good. I've had various experiences with both fast and incredible slow service. There never seems to be a pattern to it in the few times I've gone. The main flaw of the restaurant is the hours it's open. It claims to be open for breakfast but it doesn't open until 10:30 and it only stays open until 3!** It isn't even open on Saturdays for game day. I just don't understand the business plan I guess. **Update: my original review did not have the current updated hours of operation for the restaurant. However, at the time of the review, I had called to ask an employee about the hours and those were the hours I was told.
