In general the food was just ok and overpriced. The nail in the coffin was a 20% fee added to our bill without any mention of it on the menu. Too bad...will not be going back. We went in on a busy night and still received excellent service. We were so incredibly impressed. The food was absolutely to die for, especially the shrimp. Emiline gave us excellent suggestions of how much to order and it was the exact correct amount. We had an excellent bottle of wine from a list that although long, was not intimidating due to the excellent descriptions. We both wanted to try sherry but didn't know where to start, and Maria guided us to the the sherry flight which was excellent for us nouveau, but certainly enjoyable for those who have more experience then us. What a fantastic evening. We had outside seating. Our waiter, i think his name was Peter, was so pleasant and kind. The food was perfect. Disappointing on several levels. Table of 6. Hospitality (reservation was cancelled because owner (pretentious) claimed we didn't confirm which we did because we were originally 8 and then called to change to 6). Had to wait until they put some tables together to accommodate us which wasn't a big deal. Service (tables not bused properly or at all) had to continue giving empty plates and cocktail glasses to whomever to make room for apps and entrees. Server was very rushed and busy. Understaffed for the number of tables seated in my opinion. Food par at best. Small bread plates used as dinner plates for sharing. Had to ask for clean plates & silver for main course. Dropped off in a stack with clean silverware and left on table for us to hand out. Food and desserts were just shoveled on table and servers would just scurry away. 650$ later including gratuity and a 95$ bottle of wine. Last turn off was 20% gratuity automatically added, a gratuity isn't automatic or taken for granted, it needs to be earned. (I typically leave anyway.) Not a good look for an upscale vibe and pricing. Paid in cash, barely got a quick thank you and left. Won't be back, there are many other places to spend hard earned $$ and get better appreciated I believe. read more

We happened on Taberna since our reservation at another restaurant was canceled last minute due to "problems with the kitchen". We ate 730 on Fri June 17, '22 & the bar was full but we managed to get seated there quickly, waiting about 1/2 hour for an outdoor table. It helped that we called ahead of arrival. Our waitress Amanda was most accomodating and did a great job not just serving but assisting with deciding how much to order. For two of us we got one tapas that was pretty big. It was Pollo something and had several small pieces of chicken. Our 4 raciones were jamón iberico (ham), pulpo(octopus), almejas(clams) & verduras(assorted grilled veggies). Portions were fine! We asked for bread & it came warm. For drinks we began with a sparkling wine, then my husband ordered some wine but I forgot which one. The patio filled right up yet service was good. Unfortunately did not get to try food or drinks due to the aggressive waitress that was super rude for no reason. I hardly ever leave negative reviews but I was sorely disappointed by the food. The seafood paella was not just over-cooked but decidedly burnt. The rice tasted charred, and not in a good way. Fish was over-cooked and bland. The mussels smelled and tasted rotten, I've never had a mussel that tasted so fishy and funky. We sent the mussels back. The grilled vegetables were also burnt. Fries were almost raw. The cocktails were small. Everything was extremely expensive. The server was sweet and the ambiance is nice but absolutely not worth it, in my humble opinion. We just moved in around the corner from this place and I'm really excited about it. It's a lovely date / dinner spot, with outdoor seating and conscientious employees who are all wearing masks. They brought water for our dog, which is always much appreciated :). The food was good- fairly expensive tapas, but to be expected given the neighborhood and the fact that we're not in Spain. The bienmesabe, revuelto-type oyster mushroom special, and piquillos were great. The tortilla was good- I loved it but my Spanish partner was not the hugest fan. For any españoles out there- it tastes like it belongs in a bocadillo de tortilla, nothing fancy, a little dry (which is a style I rather like haha). The croquetas were not my favorite- they were a little less than creamy and a bit too nutmeg-y; this is coming from a couple that met in Madrid and regularly makes croquetas, so perhaps our standards are just too high. All in all it was a lovely experience and we will be back to try the sherry, among other things! read more

We went here for a night out (wife and I). The appetizer fries were ok- the dinners: pork belly and the rib eye were just awful. pork belly was under cooked and raw. The ribeye was undercooked and way, way, way too salty. We hate to bother our server but sent back the pork belly and shared that we didn't like it and they took 50% off. So not a place that will stand behind their dishes. Waitress was very nice- so many thanks to her for trying. This is a superb tapas place. The food is amazing! The bread is super tasty too but try not to fill up on it as the dishes are sooo good. The chorizo was incredibly savory and flavorful with the chili oil and honey it is served in. I would also recommend the meatballs served in a tomato sauce with potatoes. Everything we ordered was super good. Also, the drinks were great and they even have a weekly gin and tonic special! How cool is that? The service was also great. A small, cute place for tapas on the corner of Beacon St with street parking and across the street from the T. Their plates can be a little pricey, but the flavors are great. I would probably rate this place 3-stars, but we came here tonight to try out their $1 oysters from 5-7pm and they were fantastic! Customer service was lovely - the oyster special only applies if you sit at the bar, but since it was full, the manager allowed us to sit a high top and get the $1 oyster special anyway. We love tapas and decided to take a break from Barcelona and try this place. We sat at the bar and vibe was kinda ok, menu looked good and had a ton of tapas. I was a little shocked at the prices but assumed it had to be large tapas. We started with the octopus and some fried pork thing my boyfriend said is very traditional. I had approx 1 tiny bite of each because they were SO small. I was starving. But we had already spent $50 and the octopus also had a weird after taste. We decided it was not worth it to even stick it out for another $20 1 bite tapa, we went to Whole Foods, and cooked dinner at home. $50 I'll never get back. I recommend hitting up Barcelona for a cooler, cheaper, slightly less authentic meal. I'd consider going back if I had a large group in town to try the paella otherwise I'll save my money. read more

The thing that one has to keep in mind when going to this place, is that true Spanish cuisine is in fact very simple...no frills kinda food.... Most of the "tapas" places in the area are really updated American tapas, and although very tasty--not the real deal. I will agree that is on the pricey side for simple food, but I am sure that has a lot to do with the fact that food products cost a hell of a lot more here than they do in the Spanish countryside!! Update: They also reported me as a no-show to OpenTable, so now I have to deal with that... What a disappointment. We were really looking forward to eating here. The menu looks amazing. It might even be amazing. We'll never know. We made reservations and arrived about 10 minutes early. They seated us immediately. Very good. After being seated, it took about 5 minutes to get water and at least another 5 minutes before our server took our drink order. My glass of wine was poured almost immediately. My wife's simple cocktail, however, took 10-15 minutes to arrive. We're now 20-25 minutes in before the first cocktail has hit the table. A few minutes later, we put in our appetizer order. The cheese plate and calamari. While waiting, we perused the menu and planned the other dishes we would order. Then we waited. 15-20 minutes for the cheese plate. Calling it a cheese plate is generous. 5 extremely small pieces of cheese for $16. Price aside (Boston is not a cheap place to eat), does it really take that long to cut five tiny pieces of cheese? The mini cheese was tasty, but far from filling. Onto the calamari. If it ever arrives. Ordered a second round of drinks (another glass of wine poured immediately and a beer which took close to 10 minutes) The calamari finally arrives 40-45 minutes after we placed the order. And it's underdone. Not by a great deal, but enough to rob the coating of even a hint of crispiness. We try to eat it (couldn't finish) because we are now over an hour into the trip and don't have the time to wait another 45 minutes (at best) for an entree. It's a shame, really. We really wanted to order more food. The menu looked great. We were hungry. But it was not to be. An hour and a half to get two small appetizers. Work on it. An authentic culinary trip to Spain without leaving Brookline! This was my first trip to Taberna and it certainly exceeded all expectations! Delicious, authentic recipes were married perfectly with an extensive collection of Spanish wines and cocktails. However, don't expect to find sangria on the menu as the emphasis is on offering a more true Spanish experience. The excellent food was met with fine service and friendly, helpful staff. Stepped into Taberna De Haro on a Saturday night around 9:30 with about 7 girls. The hostess asked us if a high top table was okay and proceeded to help us put 2 together to sit at. She brought out some menus and we told her we were just staying for drinks. She silently took the menus and walked away, seemingly annoyed. A waitress then came up to us and said "usually when you come to a restaurant, you check in with the hostess before sitting." We explained to her that we did check in, and the hostess in fact helped us put our tables together. She proceeded to tell us we were lying and said "I saw you put the tables together yourself." We were all horrified as we looked to the back of the restaurant and saw the hostess looking at us and snickering with another waitress. We once again explained to the waitress what happened and told her we were only drinking. She then condescendingly said "would you like some cocktails menu then?" And proceeded to grab cocktail menus. By now we were all way too weirded out that we just left. It was an extremely bizarre situation - nothing like that has ever happened to me at a restaurant. We would have ordered a bunch of drinks and left a great tip as we always do, but the downright rude and disgruntled wait staff/hostess apparently didn't want to do their jobs. Imagine being angry that patrons come in for a few drinks on a Saturday night. I'll also note the restaurant wasn't crowded at all, there were about 10 other people in there. I hear the owners are really nice people, it's too bad they made some terrible hires. I can't comment on the food or drinks because we were never served, but the service was a 0/10. read more

Amazing sherry list and gin n tonic specials! These are their specialties and you can tell right away. Great service! Employees all always greet with a smile and offer good suggestions when u don't know what to eat or drink! Last time in a friend and I ordered the lengua, several oysters (copper beach were the best!), piquillos rellenos, gambas al ajillo, almejas, albondigas de bacala....which were need-an-article-written-about-them good! Somewhat Decent Spanish Tapas in Brookline I can't believe I am giving this place a low rating, but I thought my overall eating experience was fairly mediocre despite the option of getting $4 tapas at the bar. I also believe the taste of the food I ate here did not justify the prices from the dinner menu. We ordered the Albondigas De Bacalao, which are these fish balls, and the Pisto Manchego, which is the Eggplant dish with Peppers, Tomatoes, and Egg. The portions of the Pisto Manchego were excellent and enough for a group of four people. Putting the eggplant and onions on some bread made it a tasty combination. The Albondigas De Bacalao were good, and had a nice tasty chewiness on the inside. Unfortunately, I did not think this dish was worth waiting more than 25 minutes. It was a Friday night, and the place had a lot of people, but to wait more than 25 minutes for a tapas dish is kind of unusual. Maybe the kitchen had a lot of pressure that night. I came back for a second time for the $4 tapas at the bar. The $4 tapas selections are all served either cold or at room temperature. I got a Spanish Tortilla with asparagus, a seafood salad, and a small piece of bread topped with lamb and a red pepper as garnish. It was enough for a light meal. The Spanish Tortilla was okay, it was not the tastiest Spanish Tortilla I had since I got back from Spain. The asparagus was okay. The seafood salad had a good combination of calamari, shrimp, and mussels. The seafood definitely had a nice fresh taste and a decent amount of flavor. The lamb with bread was also a good dish, I liked the tenderness of the meat despite the somewhat cold texture. I really liked the interior and the style. They also have a great patio when the temperature is more than 18 degrees Celsius outside, and it's at an excellent location in the nice and quiet community of Brookline. The ladies that worked at the bar were nice and courteous, despite the wait for our food that Friday night. Overall, this is not a bad choice to get some tapas at a great location but I think the prices are a little too high for the quality of food you are getting. I think there are better places for great Spanish tapas in the area that have a better value. If they somehow improve on the tastiness of the food and the service, this place has a lot of potential to be a great Spanish restaurant. I would only come back for the $4 tapas at the bar, unless they improve on the quality of the food on the main menu. read more

I dined here with a table of 5 for a girls night. We ordered a variety of tapas, it was pretty good but not the best tapas I've had. Highlights were the chorizo, shrimp, and artichokes (mostly bc of the bread soaking up the remainder of the dishes). The rabbit was nice but mostly boney but that's to be expected. The bone crusher cocktail was a nice first drink, but not worth it for more than one. We switched to wine, and our waiter was helpful in selecting one we all liked. Also ended the night with dessert and an espresso martini. The desserts were nothing special. The drinks were, by far, the highlight of the night. Authentic fare served mostly in medium-sized dishes. The flavors are on point. For the two of us, we ordered patatas bravas, pimientos rojos asados, pinchos morunos, and pisto manchego. They were all perfectly prepared and seasoned. The house made sauce for the patatas bravas was excellent while pisto manchego paired fantastically with the bread. We walked in on a busy Friday evening, without a reservation. The hostess quickly grabbed us two seats at the bar which serves the same menu, so we didn't mind. The hostess was friendly and attentive. As the place focuses mostly on medium to regular-sized entrees, I do find the selection a bit small compared to several other tapas places. But for the dishes they do serve, they serve them well. And that deserves credit. read more

I came here for a gin tasting event and stayed for the sherry. Given I'm in the middle of a slight obsession with sherry, this was the perfect opportunity to try out a bunch and start to recognize the differences, since liquor stores typically have really poor selections. I was extremely impressed across the board. They did an excellent job with the gin tasting event on both the drinks and the food. When I moved to the bar to try some sherry, I couldn't believe how knowledgeable the bartender, Katie, was about it. This isn't your average category of wine, it has a lot of nuances and unwritten rules, and she knew it all. The flight was perfect for understanding these nuances and also came with croquettas which were decadent. I continued to nerd out with more sherry and ordered some patatas bravas which instantly brought me back to the time I enjoyed them on a beautiful sunny day in Barcelona. I then became best friends with the two women next to me at the bar and talked about Europe and travel for about two hours. When I go out to eat, I of course want good food, but it is equally as important to me to have an interesting drink / cocktail menu, a comfortable space and friendly service. Taberna de Haro checks all the boxes. Delicious tapas, beautiful indoor/outdoor seating, the biggest wine menu in the area and the most knowledgeable, personable and kind staff I have ever encountered. The people who work here make you feel like family and if you go often you will see familiar smiling faces again and again. We keep coming back and the quality keeps getting better. After years of walking past Taberna de Haro, we finally went here a few months ago. As we usually do at a tapas place, my husband & I split a bunch of tapas with our friends. I don't remember exactly what we got, but I'm pretty sure we went with: - Patatas bravas (Feisty potatoes - fried, with a spicy sauce): this is a staple and was pretty tasty - Alcachofas salteadas (Sauteed artichoke hearts) - Albóndigas a la pimienta (Meatballs, River Rock, in brandy-pepper sauce) Ok, I know we got more than that, but unfortunately, I can't remember what... I do remember everything being really good, although very small portions. (Yes, I know, tapas are small plates or appetizers, but these seemed smaller than at other tapas places... Unfortunately, for Taberna de Haro, another tapas place opened up further down on Beacon. I hope they both do well, as I really enjoyed both places! read more
