Nice, quiet brunches around the Union Square area are an oxymoron-- at least I thought they were until I found Taboonette today. The steak and egg pita might be one of the most satisfying meals I've had this year. The warm, soft pita bread goes incredibly with a generous portion of steak, and a medley of other well-seasoned, fresh ingredients. The setting and service are also superb here. The decor is clean and graceful with a rustic tilt, thanks to the firewood panelling to the left of the entrance. The staff and owners were also very friendly and their cheeriness made it a real pleasure to hang around and enjoy some tea. As if things couldn't get better, the whole experience is a great value, especially for the quality you get. Taboonette has been around for just over a month; you owe it to yourself to try it before the crowds roll in. read more

I'm giving this place a 1 star because while my company and I were putting on our jackets to leave, the cashier pointed at a tray w/ leftovers on the cashier's counter and yelled towards me from across the restaurant saying "sir, you can't leave this here." I had the pita shwarma wrapped in paper (no tray) and my leftovers were sitting in front of me at the table. The tray belonged to someone else. I informed her that the tray wasn't mine and she insisted that it belonged to me (?). Her voice caught the attention of essentially everyone in the restaurant; she was rude, unnecessarily antagonistic, and was making a baseless accusation. This place is right near my school and it's really my go to spot for a hasty, wholesome, delicious, tasty meal. I don't eat meat so I usually get the salmon platter for dinner which comes out super swiftly upon request. It comes with yellow rice and zartar encrusted salmon and a side salad with tziziki on the side. It's such a balanced healthy meal, cooked to perfection and super inexpensive for what you are getting. My experience is always superb in this wonderful mediterranean eatery. A great spot near Union Square! The kruveet pita sandwich is delicious. The cauliflower and squash are cooked and flavored to perfection. It comes with chips and is overall a filling and nourishing meal. My partner likes the chicken shawarma plate. We've also had the falafel side order. They are crispy and flavorful. We decided to split the chicken parm & vodka rigatoni combo and it was good! The chicken parm was flavorful and not overcooked while the pasta was al dente and had a great color. The restaurant was nice, however when we had went they did not have outdoor dining as an option, which could free up some interior space as it's very tight seating otherwise.
