Woah. Taboonette is so fabulous. I ordered Kruveet in pan form ($12). This stunning pan held freshly made hummus, cauliflower, spaghetti squash, eggplant, arugula, brown rice, warm tahini and herb salad. I also got a side of 4 fluffy, perfectuous pita wedges for $1 (I made sandwiches) (I recommend this course of action) The food was ready very speedily. And I can't even convey how amazing it was. Each ingredient was special and delicious alone, but with all of the vegetables and the soft rice unified under many blankets of creamy tahini and rich hummus, the contents of this pan really surpassed the limits of my belief. I want to come back and try as many menu items as I can, to convince myself that what I experienced at Taboonette was not a dream. Choosing what to get on my first visit had me standing at the counter for around 10 minutes of indecsicion. I can't wait to try the hummus bowls, because their hummus was pure, blissful insanity. This place is probably one of my favorite fast casual Mediterranean food eateries. My office orders from here all the time along with many other similar spots and Taboonette is always a hit. It's a bit more expensive than places like Cava, Nanoosh, and Hummus Place but you get what you pay for. The salmon is perfectly done and the chicken is very flavorful. Also, the hummus is addictive. Summary: Primarily, a healthier and classier version of street meats with a great beverage selection and quick friendly service. It is also a great place to get a coffee. Atmosphere: They decorated with wood logs to give it a bit of a rustic feel and they have one of the nicer European style coffee machines. Still the open cooler for drinks makes me think higher end deli. This is a fantastic place to meet up with friends for a simple meal and conversation. Service: They were extremely sweet and helpful as I asked about the special of the day and struggled to understand what was actually a very straight forward menu. These are nice people, despite the fact that Taboonette is designed to be fast food. The food: The Chicken Shwarma pita and rice platters are delicious healthier version of street meats. Portion size is ample, tough not quite as large as their outdoor cousins. Humus - Well made delicious humus and pita options. Beverages: This is actually a great place for a coffee break, given how they are making it. I'm going to add it to the list for that reason. After reading Serious Eats recommendations on the Best Breakfast Sandwiches we gave Tabonette a try. I ordered the recommended Sabeech..it was wonderful! The combination of the israeli salad made with fresh veggies, tahini, eggplant and egg was filled with layers of flavors a top a wonderful pillowy pita. The hubby tried the chicken schwarma platter and gave it a happy, happy two thumbs up. This place is really amazing and not too expensive either! The menu has a lot of great options. You could easily turn this into a healthy meal, or a more indulgent one, depending on what you're feeling for the day. I went with a "pan" or Chicken Shawarma. They literally serve you a frying pan full of food-- but it was too good I couldn't help but finish it all! You get to pick brown or yellow vermicelli rice, and they fill the pan with a base of that rice and a salad mix. They top the pan with tahini, hummus, chicken, pickles, and a little bit of a tomato salsa type thing. Everything is super tasty, and I like the addition of the tahini on the dish-- a little bit unique from some of the other fast casual mediterranean places just serving up hummus with their bowls. Just opened in the space that was formerly Do Sirak, right next to Soeun. They're a great addition to the neighborhood, fast and easy - plus inexpensive lunch option. I wanted the Shakshuka today, as I've never had that and the spicy tomato ragout sounded perfect. However they didn't have it, so as my plan B I ordered Sabeech, another Breakfast Pita. It has Eggplant, Israeli Salad, egg, tahini and mango. Yum, this really hit the spot. Filling, but not too much. One funny thing, they just opened so they seem to be working out the logistics. When the food comes up they *call* it out to you, wherever you may be sitting. With the music on today though, it was rather hard to hear them. Two women in the front, just sat and sat while the guy behind the counter tried to get them to hear him. I'm sure they'll work this all out soon enough, but it was kinda funny. Very stingy with Israeli salad in pita sandwiches as well as the platter...honestly it's very inexpensive, lettuce, cucumber, tomato! My side of hommous was in a side sauce cup...the first time I ordered it, it was in a larger cup. They really need to work on this. Although I have only ordered 2 different things both have been spectacular. My first try was the veggie pita filled with cauliflower, tzatziki, spaghetti squash, arugula-all sorts of veggie goodness! It was flavorful, satisfying, tasty and filling. Every other time I have returned i have gotten the salmon, which is cooked to perfection. This place is becoming a fast favourite of mine around Union Square. I've eaten from here three times in just a couple weeks, twice at the restaurant and once from Seamless, and everything I've had is so, so good! It's "middleterranean" food that doesn't make you feel like you have a roiling cesspit in your stomach (ahem halal cart food), delicately spiced and surprisingly light. Chicken shawarma plate - A classic that you can't go wrong with. The chicken is moist flavourful, and goes really well with the hummus and tahini that comes with the plate. Salmon plate - I'm a huge fish lover, so I really enjoyed this dish. The salmon comes in a substantial size, and is crusted with some kind of seed/herbs that add a nice texture. The salmon is a little dry side, but spoon some of the tangy tzaziki sauce along with it and you got yourself a great bite. Falafel plate - Good falafel, as far as I'm concerned. I just wish the plate came with some hummus because, I mean, what's falafel without hummus? Kruveet plate - A good vegetarian option that's still incredibly flavourful. Comes with a lot of cauliflower and eggplants to keep you reasonably satisfied. Shakshuka plate - I love baked eggs, so this was a no brainer for me. The tomato ragout is juicy and the eggs ooze once you cut into them (yaaas yolkporn!). I just wish the cilantro was cut up instead of a whole sprig, so that you get more of that flavour throughout the dish. So he got the pulled pork option and I got the lamb which both were splendid options. Mine was great SO OFCOURSE I offered although he claims I didnt. I am OBSESSED with this place! Very affordable and always delicious. I've easily gone here 5 or 6 times in the past month or two (hey, it was finals time) and the food was consistently well made and tasted delicious. The chicken shawarma pita, the lamb meal, the hummus bowls, all great. My only critique is that the pork bowl has too much going on. They get a little sauce happy at times. The hummus is a bit bland on its own (I just tell myself this is what "real" hummus tastes like) but the flavors from everything else pair with it wonderfully. Service is good, nothing special, and they do have indoor seating but it's usually full for lunch and dinner. But the people eating are typically in and out so I can't imagine waiting more then 15 for someone to get up. Def a little gem in the neighborhood! read more

Chicken shwarma in a laffa wrap was a beautiful construction: juicy grilled chicken, crunchy veggies, smooth hummus, plus the nice snap of pickle slices tucked inside. It was also huge and well worth the ten bucks, since it was good for two meals. A sad little bag of Lay's potato chips came with it, but so did some excellent sauces of varying heat. Really sweet and amiable staff. I don't know why this is listed as "Mediterranean"--it's straight-ahead Israeli/Middle Eastern. I've lived in the area for 7 years and just now discovered this place (cue over dramatic sad face)! This place - is - PERFECT. I am, like a child (but I am not), a very picky eater. Meaning I want food that is fresh, simple and flavorful. I have only ordered the salmon and the israeli breakfast (daily) and have never been happier with a restaurant on Seamless. The food is so good I want to go in and slap the face of every cook in the kitchen! This review isn't so much about the restaurant (which is tasty and well priced), but about their amazing delivery guy. I went to the restaurant tonight and didn't notice until an hour later that I couldn't find my wallet. The restaurant was closed, but I called and called hoping someone would answer, but no one did. I anxiously tried to go to sleep so I could call in the morning. Around midnight the buzzer in my apartment went off and a man downstairs was saying he had my wallet. It turns out that the man is the delivery guy for the restaurant and he found my wallet outside...he rode over 100 blocks to return it me. Thank you sir, you're amazing and managed to restore a little bit of my faith in humanity. I really hope the management of Taboonette treats him well, they have a good man on their hands. read more

Awesome! Recommended. I've been here only once and tried the Chicken Shawarma. It's a staple entree, but don't be mistaken - it is not tired nor ordinary. The chicken is wonderfully seasoned, but the grilled/flame flavor is what stands out. It tastes earthy and hearty, and the spices bring all of that to life. The presentation is a nice touch without being pretentious. Everything served in the pan makes it feel rustic and though it was cooked just for you - not in a tub of everyone else's orders. The rice was good, but not outstanding. It did provide that delicious yellow starchy bed for the chicken. I don't normally like tomatoes but the sliced cherry tomatoes included in the dish were ridiculously good and perfectly ripe. Freshness was obvious throughout the plate. The place is clean and nicely decorated, with a balance of modern, homey decor and rustic cooking. The downside is that it's pricey for the portion size you get. Right, it's the "Manhattan tax" but sometimes it's just not quite filling enough. The staff is just okay, nothing personable or particularly friendly about the experience, but the food makes up for that. Additional downside is that they bribe people with a "free cookie" for a five star review. Take any previous 5 stars with a grain of salt - especially if they comment about the cookie. read more
