Gorgeous transformation of a medical office into a wood fire oven bakery! Vaulted ceilings, warm-bright welcoming environment, and a beautiful brick oven that reaches the ceiling. I love the atmosphere, the music they play, and the menu i.e. bread is always perfect. I drive across town from NW to have lunch here, and hang out for awhile, write in my journal etc. It's one of my favorite spots-- it's interesting that only really favorite places inspire the want to write reviews. I really wanted to like this bakery. I have been there 6 times since they opened and it is always disappointing. Willing to pay more than any of the other bakeries in portland although we do have mighty good ones, but you guys have to deliver. Today I had the vichyssoise which was truly awful, viscous, and totally bland, and had a long hair in it. The bread that came with it was not exceptional. The service is always great. This place is doing something incredible. Freshly milled flour, natural leaving, and some extremely creative bakes. Not to mention a curated menu and a warm, comfortable atmosphere. It gives you the vibe of a chill local neighborhood spot, but with artisan quality and incredible tastes. It's the kind of place that doesn't cut corners, everything is the best of the best and there's always some new and creative thing to try that never disappoints. Even if you have no appreciation for baking at all, you'll love the food. But, if you've ever tried to make something with natural leaving before, you will be amazed by what these people are doing with natural leavening. To turn out even just a consistently decent naturally leavened loaf is impressive. But Tabor Bread is making a huge variety of not just naturally leavened bread from freshly house-milled flour, but incredible naturally leavened pastries as well! It's like stepping into the warmth of a family kitchen as soon as you're in the door. Atmosphere is homey, open, and cute. Bread is top notch. Crisp on the outside and a good bite; softer and chewy on the inside. Surprisingly good prices for their wonderful, homemade breads. The mountain bread is of course to die for. I had the turkey sandwich here once and it was good, but the sprouts were too bitter. That was the only downside. Overall, good prices for bread to take home; maybe slightly pricy for lunch, but not terrible. Just a cut above average in price but miles above in flavor/quality. read more

The savory bread pudding was fantastic with a nice crisp top and plenty of flavor in the vegetable filling. The side of roasted itty bitty baby beets was a nice addition. I also tried a cup of the soup of the day (a North African chickpea soup) and that too had a nice blend of flavor. The setting is unique and the staff are very friendly. read more

I visited Tabor Bread this afternoon to check out what type of tasty baked goods they have. Darn, it was late in the afternoon, and they were already out of many of their selections. As I looked at their display case, I saw a little sign that indicated "Carrot Cake Muffin" with nothing around it. . .because they were already out of them. Well, a Carrot Cake Muffin is what I WOULD have gotten. However, I did get a Buckwheat Chocolate Chip Cookie instead. . .and it was their very last one. It was a tasty chocolate chip cookie make with the extra heartiness of buckwheat, and also had a few grains of sea salt on top. . .a good combination. . .and I devoured it immediately. Good thing I also discovered today that Tabor Bread is not only a bakery as I had thought. I could see that they are a cafe as well with seating inside and outside and had a good looking menu of sandwiches, soups, and salads. Well, after that cookie today as a preview, I'll be back another day for a Grilled Cheese Sandwich. read more

So good! Came here for a Sunday brunch. Got the focaccia sandwich and the red wheat biscuit sandwich. Both were delicious! We also got drip coffee from Stella - delicious, and lastly a loaf of the rosemary and olive bread. Yummy!!!! We had it with a pasta and it was delicious. read more

The best in SE Portland... and I would go here from any part of town to enjoy the smells and serenity of this true artisan bakery. I have enjoyed many times the Frittata Sandwich and Spella brand coffee for breakfast. The two-slice cinnamon swirl toast with pecans and dried figs is amazing, and perfect for sharing ...although I suggest your companion order a yummy scone or the doughnut muffins! I really want to love this place. I've been in at least six times. I have enjoyed some of what I've ordered, the soups I've tried have been fine. I love hearty, grainy, interesting breads, and their bread is good enough, but it's not the thing that keeps me coming in the door even though the staff and owner are far to aloof for my taste. I love the scones. But I think after this last time, when I felt ignored and looked down upon, and a really mediocre egg salad sandwich that, inexplicably, took ten minutes, I will go back to making my own scones. read more

I watched this place transform during its remodel and couldn't wait to give it a try. I loved all the wood accents and the brick oven you see when you first walk in. Today, I met some friends for coffee. The coffee was good but the sticky bun was the best. Even though it had the caramelized brown sugar and nuts on the top, a requirement in my mind, somehow I didn't feel guilty eating it. The bread part, oh my gosh was it good. Very flavorful. Not too sweet. No boxed sticky bun here, (unless you count the boxed one my friend took home. LOL) It was moist and I could taste the flour...ya, I know that sounds weird. Bottom line, go on the weekend so you can indulge in this yummy. read more

Well this one is kinda of weird. I walked inside and was surprised by two women dancing cheek to cheek. That was nit the weird thing but the look she was giving me while dancing was. Still weired out the girl behind the counter was alot if help. I bought one wheat baguette one coconut macaroon and one oatmeal cookie. Bread was alittle dark on the bottom which is ok with me. The cookie was the best I have ever had the macaroon I did not like, it had a taste that I dis not like. The bread here is amazing, as is all their food and staff. The space is a wonderful place for breakfast/lunch, with a selection of items that are so good its often hard to choose. Great bread, but I recommend getting it to go! Brunch and lunch menus, as others have mentioned, were recently significantly decreased and now they have only very limited uninspired options. What's more, the two times I have gone recently (in the morning) they had already run out of much of their limited menu and all the pastries. Management clearly needs help. It's too bad because it used to be a great lunch spot. I personally will now only be buying their bread from the farmers market in the future. read more

I'd give 6 stars if I could. They mill their own freaking flour! Legit bakery. True gem of Portland, dare I say, West Coast. ALTHOUGH, really tough to drink their coffee... Portland has some excellent roasters and the coffee they serve is just not on par. Oh well, can't have it all. read more

So good! A little expensive but worth every penny when you consider that they make their own flour. I'm excited to have this in the neighborhood- my only wish is that they'd offer a 16 oz drip coffee, but that's just because I am a caffeine addict. Outstanding bread. Just perfectly cooked, perfect amount of flavor, perfectly moist inside and crusty outside. Beautiful location and lovely staff. Weekend brunch has no line and decadent options like eggs Benedict and sourdough waffles. Donut muffins are hearty and fresh but not overly sweet. Bread is hot out of the oven. Can't beat it. Maybe we came on an off day or maybe their menu changed, but every staff member seemed very confused this morning. Not knowing who ordered what in spite of each order being given a number... Not knowing what was or wasn't on their own menu... Or even the location of their "specials" board. They just need to tighten up their system of organization and communication it seemed. It was off-putting. But I digress, because I did eat the best eggs Benedict of my life there and had a bite of my husband's ham and Brie biscuit which was equally delicious. Baking is really their strong suit. Very homey, cozy ambiance and not too busy for a Saturday brunch hour. So work on the back-end and beef up the kids area and this spot would be a neighborhood staple. read more

My wife and I have shopped and dined at Tabor Bread for several years. We have always loved their sandwiches and loaves of bread. In our view, some of the best bread available in Portland. But today when we came to buy some bread and have lunch, we were charged $3 for tiny glasses of ice tea, and when I went for what I assumed would be a courtesy refill, I was told it would cost another $1. Are you kidding me?? This is absurd. Sorry I tipped the cashier $2 on my purchase. Next time I will skip the tip and probably bring my own drink. The owners might want to think through this policy, as it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. read more
