While doing the cleaning, they said that they noticed a break in the line to the main sewer and explained the Private Drain Program, saying that they were able to provide the service for calling the city inspector and getting a work order approved to repair it. They were polite, friendly, and very communicative throughout the entire process. They walked me through exactly what was needed and what would happen going forward. I have a pair of nearly 25 year old Wusthof chef's knives that badly needed sharpening. Over the…read moreyears I'd tried to do it myself, either with a crude handheld sharpener, a purpose-built knife sharpening machine and even a set of whetstones. They always helped a little, but it was never great, and certainly not as good as when my knives were new. I figured I needed an expert but didn't know where to go. Yelp was very helpful finding Bernie's, which was close to home and super convenient. When you get there, you'll wonder for a minute if they even do small jobs like this because it's a shop that looks like it mainly deals with industrial equipment or something. But rest assured your blades are welcome, just go to the little office at the right of the shop. All in all, an amazing experience. For only $9, my two high end chef's knives are as sharp, if not sharper, than the day I got them. I dropped them off at lunch and they were even ready before the 4pm close. I very highly recommend Bernie's to anyone who needs any blades sharpened!

Windy City Plumbing, from Jose the owner, Mayra in the office, Armando who did the "dirty work" cleaning out my catch basin of 3-1/2' of sewage, and started digging a 7-1/2' hole out in front of my house to install my Clean Check System (the absolute BEST alternative to a complete flood control system which is absolutely UNNECESSARY), to Sebastian who completed digging the hole and did the actual installation of the Clean Check System, and finally the other 3 guys, sorry I didn't get your names, you are the "BOMB!!!" This company went OUT OF THEIR WAY to help me get this back-up preventer installed while the weather was nice this late February 2017. I absolutely, positively, NEEDED it done quickly in order to complete repairs and home improvement upgrades in my house in order to get a home REFI. Sorry Jose, if I seemed a bit "pushy" but you guys came through for me in a HUGE WAY!!! The cost was VERY WELL within my budget ( no I won't quote what it was) and was about 1/3rd the cost of an entire electronic flood control system which would have required a sewer-type manhole in front of the house. Can you say UUUUUUGGGLLLEEEE?!?!? Well done gentlemen, and highly recommended for the entire Cicero, Berwyn, Stickney, Forest View, Riverside, North Riverside, McCook, Summit, etc, areas. read more

I was having one of those macho "I'm the man of the house and I can fix this" moments a while back. I tried and tried to do 2 things unclog the bathroom sink & replace the faucet. I have done both of these many times before but this piece of ?@#! faucet was not cooperating with me so I sucked it up and called in a professional. As a guy I hate to call in another guy to fix these little things around my house and I had asked around for names and no one had one that they thought was good, reliable & affordable until I called my management company who recommended Jose. Not only did he answer his phone the first time I called but he scheduled the time & even called 15 minutes before he was going to be at my place... and he was early to the appointment!. This is unheard of. He explained what he was doing as he went along and even cleaned up after himself! (I was going to leave that to the wifey but if he wanted to clean by all means, as long as I didn't have to do it) He even guarantees his work for a year too. Called them after hours because I had water backing up into my sinks and shower drain. Jose and his helper came by and cleaned out my drains. I wanted to know what caused it to happen every few months or so. They used a piece of equipment which let them see inside the drain where we found a section of pipe that had been cracked and dropped down causing a build up in the pipe. We were able to set something up for repair on the weekend after I got home from work. They came in, found the problem area and was able to replace it and close it up all in the same day. I was so happy to have fixed the problem instead of putting a bandaid on it every couple months. They were very professional and cleaned the area so well you wouldn't even know they had been here. I also have them coming out to one of my rental buildings in Oak Park. I recommend them if you want someone who will explain thd problem thoroughly and is able to repair it and charge a reasonable price. I will have them back for future plumbing needs. read more

What a great break to find Jose and his associates! They gave me a great price, I was given a recommendation of something that needed to be done more urgently. After I had the urgent situation taken care of, Brian and an assistant came to rod out my pipes. Brian first improved on the job that was done on pumping out my catch basin then rodded my pipes and it only took one hour. I'm so very glad I chose Windy City Plumbing out of the 3 Yelp plumbers I contacted for estimates. They were the only ones who investigated thoroughly, explained (correctly) what was happening with my sump pump, showed me something that they didn't even do or profit from that was my primary problem and did my job in the minimum time frame plus they had the lower rate. It's all the first reasons I hired them, the rate was the icing on the cake. Couldn't be happier! After having some random guys attempt to rod out my sewer line 6 weeks ago, I had a disgusting sewage cleanup job on my hands with a heavy rain just a few weeks later. I found Windy City Plumbing on yelp, and Jose came out this week to survey my situation. He had Chris and Julio come by to re-rod today. They saw immediately that nothing substantial had been accomplished by the random guys - my main line was very backed up. Not only did they do the job right, cutting through tree roots and pulling other stuff out of the line, they pulled the random guys' broken tool out which apparently cracked off and was left blocking my pipe! Jose, Julio and Chris were pleasant, professional and explained everything to me. They checked on other issues/questions I raised and made sure that I was in good shape before they left. My mom's toilet had leaked into the downstairs apartment when I got the call early in the morning. I looked on YELP and found Windy City Plumbing with wonderful reviews. Windy City replied promptly to my email. I also phoned and talked with a knowledgable woman. Jose and his partner arrived within 2 hours of calling and fixed the toilet. Windy City Plumbers are the most efficient, thorough, courteous and reliable group of professionals that ever worked on a project in my home of 30 years! Jose always returns calls/texts and oversees his crew on a daily basis. I had an exterior plumbing issue that started with a clean out which turned into replacing 5 ft of pipe, but once revealed, the pipe was solid with roots and mud so it ended up being a 25 ft dig and pipe replacement! Highly recommend this company. Had a backed up basement drain that needed rodding, and it turned out to be a difficult situation. These guys were outstanding - they worked through everything they needed to very methodically, explained the situation every step of the way, and worked hard to solve the problem, which they did. Very courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. I have had this done several years ago, and it cost me twice as much as what Wind City Plumbing charged - and they were even here after hours. Awesome guys- always reliable , communicative, respectful, and get the job done as quickly as possible (it is our experience that other companies drag out their time to be able to charge more- not the case with Windy city!) We have used Windy City Plumbing to do a variety of things - from the plumbing for our bathroom & kitchen remodel, to smaller tasks and they have been fantastic. A couple of times we've had plumbing emergencies and they have been there within an hour or two (from Berwyn and we live in Evanston). We are waiting for the ground to thaw and they'll be installing a sewer cleanout for us as well. As a realtor I recommend vendors to many clients and Windy City is always our go-to plumber. Jose and his crew did an outstanding job replacing my old water heater. It was not a simple job as my condo does not have a floor drain and the heater is behind the gas line which makes it difficult to remove. The guys brought in an electric pump to empty out the old heater and finished the job quicker than I expected. They even cleaned up the utility closet once the old heater was removed. Thumbs-Up for Windy City Plumbing, I never heard of Yelp, my son contacted Jose, I am glad he did. I used another area plumber in the past, no more; it is Windy City Plumbing here on. Jose and Brian are resourceful working on old homes. We did not have the kitchen trap backup. Ours was in the basement, nearer to the catch basin in an awkward pipe. Once when we were away on winter vacation, had a pipe break in our Chicago freezing temps and gave Kevin, the owner, a call in a panic. He said no problem and he met up with our caretaker and fixed the issue in a flash, saving us from having to come right home. Just today, his guys Lance and Josh came to the house to troubleshoot a leak in the basement to find it was coming from a bidet toilet on the floor above it. Complicated? Yes. But not so much that these experts coudn't solve the issue and fix us right up in short order. Obviously, we can enthusiastically recommend Sound Plumbing and congratulate our wisdom in finding such a great resource, not only competent but trustworthy and reliable. That's worth a bundle!

It's been a while (2022), but they came out to look at a leak with one of our water heaters. They…read morefound multiple issues and said the equipment was too old and they needed to replace both of them. They quoted us $5k and some additional cost to check the HVAC while they were there. The HVAC check seemed like everything was fine, but they used it as a sales op to try and sell me new furnace and humidifier, which was working fine at the time (and continues to function 4 years later). Thankfully their 1-year VIP service was the most valuable part of it, because one of the joins for the new water heaters started leaking again almost 12 months later. However, when they came out, they couldn't get the water main to close in our unit, so they quoted me to replace it as an additional cost instead. We said no, and gradually loosened the water main valve to the point where we could get it to close. We believe it was debris from the water main for the building being shut off multiple times for other work recently. Once we resolved that issue, we were able to get them to actually repair their failing original work at no cost. Not sure I would recommend.
