I was here for a private event, a wine tasting to be exact. Cesca Family Wines to be exact. I came directly from work and could feel myself on edge and just a nudge away from being in a really rotten mood. Everyone went out of their way to make me and the whole group of 25 feel welcomed and engaged. Once the wine started flowing woke mood disappeared and a state of calm washed over me. The owner was there welcoming us all and his son is the main chef. He also came out to address the group - very handsome young man I may add. Ok, anyway...about the food. Their homemade pasta stole the show. I do not eat meat so for me there was a gnocchi in a Gorgonzola sauce....omg so tasty. The gnocchi were so soft and fluffy. The sauce was nowhere near as heavy as some cheese sauces tend to me. They sent out several meatless pizzas, in a margarita girl so yes the classic was my favorite here. The staff was friendly and attentive, the place is clean and very busy. There were many people coming in to pick up their take out and there were several large parties dining in. We had a family dinner here tonight to celebrate two birthdays. I ended up reserving the smaller party room. The room was perfect for 17 of us. Our dedicated waitress was awesome and very attentive. We had the delicious house made pastas salad and pizzas. Everything came out perfect. Everyone enjoyed their food and I was able to relax and enjoy my family. For years I've gotten pizzas from Taconelli's Usually once a week. It's a 20 minute drive from my house, but it's definitely worth it. It's a thin crust, you have to somewhat like garlic . You won't be disappointed. read more

I really wanted to give them 5 stars but I'll explain why I didn't. We have been here a few times now and love it every time. My sister even held her rehearsal dinner here last month. The wedge salad is amazing and we love the pizza. But my favorite part of this place is the gnocchi! They're so soft and fresh each time we come. The only reason they're getting 4 stars and not 5 is they got rid of their best sauce for the gnocchi-the Gorgonzola cream sauce with pieces of pancetta. We were so disappointed last night when our server told us they'd stopped serving it. Also we ordered basil on our white half of our pie that we didn't get but we let it go because we came in late with no reservation so we were thankful to have gotten to eat. I know I know, everyone has their favorite pizza spots, and everyone also fancies themselves a pizza expert based on some form of "credentials" that often center around where you reside or have past resided. I haven't been to the Philly Tacconelli's location and since there's this location in Maple Shade, I frankly don't feel the need to! This pizzeria makes a delicious pie that'll be as good as any, even in our overlooked and disrespected pizza locale that is South Jersey. The crust is crispy with a black char on the bottom, but it doesn't taste "burnt." You can taste the chunks of fresh tomato in the red sauce (I'll have to try a white pie next). The toppings are high quality, they don't recommend going with more than 3 because of how thin the crust is. I went with a red provolone pie and my mom had a red "formaggio" (a blend of mozz, provolone and Asiago I think). We both had mushrooms, she had black olives and I had sweet sausage and onions. Frankly, the provolone can't be beat! While the formaggio was good, the sharpness of the provolone really comes through. I'd consider ordering a plain red provolone, it's good enough to not need toppings! I won't say they're generous with the toppings but as you can see, it's "enough" to complement the delicious ensemble of crust, sauce and cheese. 2 pies to go were ready in 20 minutes. The damage for the 2 pies and 2 slices of cannoli cake was $53, and yes, that's cash only. You'll probably be able to eat a slice more than you normally would, this is a true thin crust. Not cheap, get dominos medium 2 topping for $5.99 if you want that. If you want quality and a pizza that'll stand up to any pizza snob joints in NYC (yes, I've waited "on line" for a few of them), then come to tacconelli's in maple shade. At a family gathering for the queen's birthday we ordered Caesar salad, white pizza with sausage, cheese pizza with pancetta, Margherita pizza and a side of cavatelli. Pizzas were good but they could have been cooked for a bit longer to crisp the entire crust. The service was adequate although delivered without the hint of a smile. Our family loves Tacconelli's. The pizza is so good. We cannot rave enough about it. Every time we have been there, we have enjoyed ourselves and everything we ate. Recently, I attended a party in one of the private rooms. There were over 30 guests. Our server brought out two salads, then 15 minutes later brought out two more. Then a few minutes later, two more. Then the pasta, came out the same way, in increments. When it was time for pizza, two pizzas came to the table, then one, etc. When you have that many people, maybe all of the salads should come out at the same time, same for pasta. I get the pizza has to be scattered but with that many folks, the executing of the food coming out could be better. No one left hungry and the party was nice. This was my first time here and I was impressed. For starters the place is pretty big and they have their own private room which is great for parties! They do not have a big menu and honestly they do not need one. Their food is fresh and ready to order! Their pizza is unique and it's unlike your traditional pizza. I had heard about this place, but the Philadelphia location. I did some research and learned that the younger brother owns this one, and his father started the original. Anyway, I live close to here so I decided to give it a try. First off, once you step in, it feels more like a restaurant than a pizzeria. It's BYOB as well, so it's a nice place to have dinner. We didn't do research on the menu when we got there. We actually just wanted a slice each to try it but they only sell pizza by the pie. So, keep that in mind for your visit. Also, it's pizza, pasta and salads, nothing else. The pizza is cooked in a brick oven. I really enjoyed it. It was cooked perfectly and all of the ingredients were good quality. The pie I got was half specialty and half pepperoni. The speciality was definitely my favorite. The tomatoes were cooked so well it almost tasted like it had a red sauce base instead of white. I also really liked how they did appetizer pasta portions. We split a pasta to give it and try, and it was very good. Really good place. The space is large. Note that the main entrance is not at the GPS location address, there is a large parking lot behind the restaurant which is adjacent to their main entrance. Our server was excellent, all other interactions with staff were subpar. They are cash only. Bring some cash and some booze if you like. They are BYOB. If you are a pizza lover and accustomed to a nice chew or texture for your dough with good sauce to cheese ratio then this is not the place for you. The crust is overly thin & crispy bordering on cracker like, very reminiscent of thin flatbread. If you like neopolitan style then you may enjoy it although it is far too thin and crunchy for my liking. Cheese to sauce ratio seems off. Margherita pie was adequately saucy but the cheese is so thin and spread out. Not sure if it is customary to cook the basil till it is crispy because I have never experienced a Margherita pie prepared this way but regardless, the charring of the herb left a bitter after taste and overall left the entire table wanting more cheese and fresh basil. Also added prociutto and arugula to half of a pie. They were out of arugula. The prociutto was also cooked to death. My expectations were high and I wanted to love the pizza however, the crackerlike, undercheesed, cooked basil, cooked prosciutto made it nearly impossible to enjoy. This is by far the best pizza in south jersey. Our family used to go to the South Philly location and ever since they've come over the bridge we've dined in a handful of times a year. We always bring out of town family here and have grown up eating this pizza. Do not let the below message change your mind about eating here. The food is amazing but we wanted to get a message to the managers. Tonight we had a server that wasn't very friendly and had a bit of an attitude. This will not deter us from returning as this is the first time we've experienced this (plus your pizza is outstanding). But we thought you'd like to know about our experience with Kelly T. I recently ordered a take-out Friday lunch-time pizza --- the only time they have lunch hours --- from Tacconelli's. I arrived within a few minutes of the time they suggested, and was ready to apologize that I might be a bit early. Instead, the counter person, who was friendly enough, snatched my boxed pizza off an unheated side shelf, next to the oven, the first thing I thought curious. As she handed me the box, I noticed that the box was cool, not even warm; kind of odd for a "fresh" pizza. Upon getting it home, after putting it in a pre-warmed oven, it tasted okay, but I noticed the crust was not just chewy --- which I don't mind if it's fresh --- it was tough. This was day-old pizza, leftover from the night before. If I was given the choice of a discount because of that, I would've been fine, but I was, of course, charged the "fresh" price. And I left a tip! Grrr... I've ordered a number of times from Tacconelli's, but this is the last time. There's other decent pizza places around that always make it fresh. read more

Tacconelli's is a great pizza shop in south Jersey. I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed with the food. My latest visit I came here with a party of four. As soon as we entered, three of us headed to the restroom while one person got a table. Unfortunately they would not seat us until all of us came out of the restroom. The restaurant was not packed and half of the tables were empty. First we ordered an appetizer portion of the gnocchi in a pesto sauce. It was really good. Their pasta tastes freshly made. For pizza we ordered one with onions and long hots, and one white with extra sweet sausage. Both pizzas were really good. The sauce definitely tasted freshly made, and you can taste the hint of garlic. The long hots were nicely chard on the pizza, and the sweet sausage is good. Their pizza is New York style - large thin crust slices. They are a BYOB, but there are a couple liquor shops within walking distance. I would definitely come here again. read more

Whoa!!! This is that pizza that you think about all week. The only reason you don't eat it everyday is to set up the build up to greatness. The hot and honey with pepperoni is outta this world. The gnocchi is the greatest, lightest, most delicious little pillow of awesomeness I have ever had! Barstool rated the Philadelphia location really well and this NJ location might have a slight edge just with parking and seating, plus the jersey wuter.. I will give 4 stars but I'm not sure I will be back. It is a very popular place and has a nice atmosphere. We brought our own wine which was opened immediately by our server. Very limited menu. They do not serve bread with pasta dishes and they do not have any meatballs or sausage with pasta dishes. We ordered 4 salads which were good. For entrees, we ordered 2 pasta dishes which were excellent and a pizza with 1/2 sausage. The pizza was burnt and we sent it back. We were informed that was how they cook the pizzas and in the future we should order "not well done". If you like thin and crispy this is the spot for you. The second pizza was delicious. First let me say that I grew up eating at the original Tacconelli's in Port Richmond. Last night we decided to try the one in Maple Shade, NJ. We would have gone to the original but it was snowing so parking at the original can be a hassle. We didn't order our dough either. You have to order your dough in advance at the original. So we arrived around 5pm and it wasn't very busy for a Friday at lent. The set up is a bit strange. We entered on the street side and the hostess stand was empty. We had to go to the take out side to be sat, it was strange to walk through the restaurant just to have to walk back to be sat. We were sat immediately and our server was very nice. They have a bit of a larger menu at this location but it's still small and basic. We started with the caesar salad. It was delicious, very fresh with a nice amount of cheese. The salad dressing was house made and dressed perfect. We also ordered a margherita pizza. The pizza was good, not great. The crust was crispy and it was a decent size. The sauce was overly sweet for me. The basil was also cooked, I prefer it thrown on at the end. Overall it was a decent pizza. I would go with their plain pie over the margherita though. We ordered a white pie (half prosciutto and basil, half BBQ chicken). I'm not sure if it's just their style, but there was virtually no cheese and everything was burnt. The seasoning on the crust is good in theory, but there was way too much for my taste. Pizza (red pie) is excellent and one of best I've ever had. I travel almost an hour to get here and its well worth the drive. On last visit, we were asked to leave the table since, according to the server, the host needed the table for other customers. Looking around the restaurant, there were several empty tables available and we weren't sitting for a long period of time. That was a little unnerving especially after a generous gratuity was provided. I have been going to Tacconelli's for about 30 years, first with their original location in NE Philly, then Mt. Laural & now the Maple Shade location. The one thing about Tacco's is consistency, as the pizza from 30 years ago in Philly is the same at Vince's location in NJ. I'm surprised at the sub-par reviews, these people obviously can't read too well, because the type of pizza Tacco's serves has been clearly documented for decades. So if you're looking for smooth tomato sauce, greasy, cheap cheese & spongy dough, this pie isn't for you. I was surprised to see the addition of fresh made pasta on the menu, and was really looking forward to trying it. Love the small plate, app sized options! The gnocchi with Gorgonzola cream sauce was top notch! Little airy pillows of pasta were excellent! The pizza...what can I say, it's the one thing I always crave when away from the East Coast, and like I said before, it hasn't changed in years. To the people that have no clue about real pizza, save your pennies and take a trip to Naples, Italy and you'll only find thin, airy, light, slightly charred crust, with dollops of Roma tomatoes & fresh mozzarella. This is authentic Italian pizza, it's unfortunate that too many people in this area are used to Domino's & the standard corner pizza slop.
