To start. I've had much better Turkish food in other places. I went to Tacis Beyti a week ago along with my wife and her mother. First impression: there are way too many people here. Second: it is too loud. Third: the service sucks miserably. The restaurant consists of two separate dining rooms, each being a long and narrow room ending in kitchen. Every conceivable space is taken by tables leaving one narrow passageway in the middle (think airplane). We walk into the first room, waiter appears in couple of minutes, says something illegible and runs out only to come back in couple minutes and ask us to go to next hall. Once we get there, we see that it is even more packed, with thermostat set on tropics, and so loud that you cannot even hear yourself talk. So we ask to go into the first room, reluctantly the waiter lets us get a table there. Then pretty much the theme of the evening was: track down your waiter and make him serve you. read more

I've had Turkish food from a variety of restaurants before. This time, Tacis Beyti was recommended by a Turkish friend! I was telling him how delicious the restaurant "Istanbul" in park slope was, and he jumped in and said I know an even better place. Excited I was to have some delicious Turkish food better than istanbul! This coud not be. And no, it was not. Disappointed yet again. The menu was pretty normal. Had all the traditional kabobs and appetizers on it. We ordered a small mixed mezze plate as an appetizer. I ordered the "Lamahcun" which is a traditional Turkish dish of crispy dough filled with a layer of minced lamb and spices. Two other dishes we order was the "adana kabob" (lamb), and chicken kabob. The lentil soup was also ordered as an appetizer. They brought out the mezze plate with a bread basket, that had old hard bread in it. The mezze plate was decent, but I've had way better. The lentil soup had a spicy taste to it. The lentil soup from Istanbul is a million times better. When the entrees were brought out I immediately knew I ordered the wrong thing lol. My lamahcun looked like quesadillas and came with three huge ones with a side of onions, some veggie that resembled a potato and that's it. The adana kabob came with onions tomatoes and peppers and the same with the chicken plate. My Lamahcun was horrible! It had no flavor and there was basically nothing to it! The lamb kabob was normal and the chicken ehh. The place was nice and so was the staff but the food was not good. Surprising since this place was referred by a Turkish friend. Best Turkish food you will ever find in the U.S.. Zagat had it right. They have amazing appetizer, I usually get the hummus with Pastirma and the liver. The liver appetizer can't be beat, most tender and fresh thing on the menu, melt in your mouth. The Doner (gyro) is probably the best meat they have on the menu but I always get the Mixed Grill since you get a little bit of everything, and it's a fair price at $23. Parking is a pain since they don't have their own lot so you'll have to walk a bit, but that's a good thing since you'll end up ordering half the menu and will need that walk to digest the food. read more

Found this place while surfing on web, ordered the chicken Shish kebab sandwich, chicken Adana kebab and chicken kebab platter. They gave you a huge portion, and fill it with tons of meats. Surprisedly the meat is not tough, they are extremely juicy and tender which I love it. The service is fast, I ordered them to go. Pick up less than 10 mins. Scallops. GET.THE.SCALLOPS! This place gets crowded for a reason, the food is great. I tried my hardest to avoid the delicious bread on the table but I lost that battle quite quickly. We ordered some grape leaves as an appetizer and they were good, a little sweet, which I'm not used to with grape leaves but they were good nonetheless. Anyway, back to the scallops! My dad just called me to say that he is in Brooklyn and will be picking me up some Taci Beyti to make my day THAT much better. I only venture out to Brooklyn once every so often to visit family & friends but when I do, I make sure to visit Taci's! My favorite is the cigars with feta cheese. This place is always packed with people but I don't think you can make reservations unless it's a big party. The food is incredible and beats Sahara (a few blocks away) in regards to food. If you're looking for ambiance, this is not the place for you. It has florescent lighting.... yes, I'm serious. Best Turkish food I've ever had outside of Turkey. For starters, we had the eggplant spread (homemade, none of that out-of-the-jar stuff), shepherd salad (large, and it came large), pan-fried calf's liver cube (always a big fan), lahmacun (good enough), and kiymali pide (such fresh bread, like in the old country). It was one of those rare meals where every member of my family and I would pause every few minutes, or after each dish came out, and repeatedly express how good it was ("wow..just wow"). Soon after, in classic family fashion, it became a heated debate, comparing it to other Turkish restaurants we've been -- unanimously Taci's Beyti won out. The service was great. Very friendly, helpful, accommodating. You're not just another meal they're trying to churn out. These are natives, locals, who have a connection to the business, the food, the culture. Even the ambiance is nice. Clean, rustic, well-lit, not too loud -- classic, but not too stuffy, or tacky like how some ethnic restaurants can be (i.e. carpets hanging all over the place, or like curved swords mounted on the walls, etc.). It was a Sunday evening, and both rooms were packed. The place serves beer/wine, but it's also BYOB. No corkage fee. For entrees, we had the adana kebab (!!!), doner kebab (!!), and iskender kebab (!). The iskender kebab fell flat, but I think this is largely due to the dish itself -- when the yogurt, tomato sauce, and meat sometimes mix and cool down, it's not as good. Plus, it's hard to be a big fish in an ocean of high-quality, juicy, flavorful, awesomeness. TL;DR: Taci's Beyti really impressed me. It may not be the quickest place to get to, but good things never come easy, as they say, or something like that. I am already looking forward to coming back ASAP, with two bottles of red. read more

I hate doing this, since the food is excellent, especially their grilled items and their warm bread that they bring to the table, but the service SUCKED!!! I came here under the suggestion of a local friend who raved about this place. (I'm visiting.) My group of four came at dinner time. Unfortunately we were seated with not one but TWO HUGE groups of people who were obviously having a party. The waiters are obviously more attentive towards those two parties b/c of the potential big tip they were gonna get, b/c they pretty much ignored our table. Haven't visit Tacis for a long time. So before the movie, we decided to pass by and see if it is still amazing. Well, it is!! This is one of the places that you feel the freshness while you are eating it. It is a mixture of Mediterranean food, and the service of Brooklyn, which for me will always be a mix between the City and the boroughs. The Doner Kabab is something that make taste slower, just to preserve the taste a bit longer. This place has the best lahmacun in New York! I've been looking for a good Turkish restaurant for a while now but the search is over since I started going to Taci's Beyti. Their salads, soups, appetizers, kebaps, everythings on point! Hummus with turkish pastirma is a must try, their adana is simply delicious and even their Iskender kebap, which im really picky about, is really tasty! By now we tried almost every kebap on their menu and everything was just so great. The only downside is that it is really far away from where I live but I still do the trip with my Turkish friends whenever we crave good turkish food, which is happening often since we found out about Taci's :) yay! read more

My friend Ersin and his family have run this business for a very long time. I had been here to just chill, but I got the full experience when I went to my friend Ronnie's birthday here and when I did my own birthday dinner here in 2005. If you want to eat more than you ever did in life for a low price this is the place to do it. The food was NON-stop. They even made special accomodations for my brother who is vegan. This place was so delicious! The tabouli was exquisite, garlicy and lemony. Parsley was chopped very fine and it wasn't too oily. I would some time like to order 16 orders of tabouli and just knock myself out. It was awesome. I also had the chicken kebab, which was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and came with these delicious raw onions that were seasoned with paprika ( I think), a delicious pepper, and a whole grilled roma tomato. The pita bread that came with it was kinda lousy, but the part that soaked up the juice from the chicken and vegetables was tasty. My dining partner had the stuffed grape leaves, which were pretty good. I personally like a more vinegary taste, but these were tasty. She also had the Doner. I normally would never order lamb, I have some sort of adversion to cute animals, but this was so good that I'll put my morals aside and order it the next time I go. So you know that friend that always says he knows "The Best ____" and you've come to ignore his opinions because he's just disappointed time and time again? Well, I'll been proved wrong. We took this adventure from Long Island and it actually wasn't a bad drive. My friend and I left all the dish decision to our confident Turkish pal. The feta crispy roll is decent, though nothing special. The eggplant spread is not really baba ganoush. Instead, it's deep red and spicy. A great compliment to their incredible bread. Their fresh bread topped for the table is so good and I would order loaves of it. Finally, you must get the fried liver cubes, served with thinly sliced and spiced onion. Beer compliments the salty, fried, meaty dish so well. We split two entrees. The chicken gyro is none like I've ever had. It did not really taste processed and there are actual chunks of chicken in the gyro mix. The other is a thinly sliced lamb gyro with yogurt and crispy pita on the bottom and tomato sauce on top. It's an oily and glutinous dish, but it works. The yogurt isn't too heavy, the pita is fried and still crunchy, and the tomato sauce keeps it a bit fresh. Finally, I would order ahead of time the künefe because they bake it fresh. One the best desserts I've had recently. It's relatively small if you have a sweet tooth, but one plate can feed about 2-4. It's made of a soft neutral and crunchy shredded wheat. Ask for the syrup on the side because you only want a hit of sweetness. The restaurant is BYOB, which everyone seemed to take advantage of. There are two liquor stores and multiple convenience stores for beer nearby. Granted, I wasn't extremely ambitious when I was in Istanbul, but this is the best Turkish food I've had. read more

BEST LAMB EVER. Came here with a friend just this afternoon and I have to say this again..BEST LAMB EVER. You have to try their fried liver cubes as an appetizer and order their Lamb Shish Kebab. The lamb was juicy and tender at the same time. My friend ordered the Doner Sautee which was great too. The cheese under the meat tasted familiar. It's the same cheese used in lasagna and ravioli. A good touch of sweet and salty. The manger was also excellent with his service which is always a plus. He made us a Burma for dessert on the house! This place has the most amazing food. Whether you are a vegetarian or carnivore this place has something for everyone. I love the shepherd's salad it's to die for and the shredded feta cheese is so good and fresh. My favorite dish is probably the lamb chops (perzola) is spiced to perfection and seasoned with oregano and other amazing flavors. The desserts are amazing too: the custard pudding and baklava will make your mouth water. And, if you like strong espresso like me, I suggest you try their Turkish coffee (kahve). The waiters are really cute, super nice, quick and are excellent servers. I grew up with proper table manners and they change plates as soon as your done, so you have a clean plate for the next course. Great place for families, couples, very kid friendly as well. I am not familiar with authentic Turkish food to say this is as best as it gets but the food here stands far apart in terms of flavor from the ones in Manhattan that I have tried. Went with the reviewers recommend options of fried cubed livers & eggplant with tomato for appetizers. They both tasted delicious, even better when eaten together. Scoop an eggplant piece , layer up with a liver cube(after it has cooled down a bit) & pop into your mouth. A beautiful symphony of favors await you. The mixed grill gave an insight into the kebab world of lamb here. Each item was delicious and stood apart in terms of the spices used as well as how perfectly the meat was done. Turkish tea, great to gulp down after all that meat. The only meh was the apricot dessert which was just plain apricots stuffed with an almond each & a scoop of ice cream. But it wasn't described as anything else on the menu. The place is huge and was packed . Service was fast. They might not come & ask you if everything was ok and how you are doing but they have an eye on each table & knows when to clean away the empty plates & serve the next course. We have eaten at Taci's but one time, with friends who are there much more often. We are traveling 45 miles to meet them, as we live on the Nassau/Suffolk border. We are coming w/ them again on Monday, and my wife and I had the scallops and salmon, respectively, and this time, we're going to split our dishes to enjoy each. The service was great; that we had someone take our order but after that we were told if you need something, stop anybody, it's not like a restaurant where a waiter says "you're not mine" They cover for each other. Also, our friends live in the Heights, so we don't see them often. Meeting at Taci's we know we can chat w/out being rushed out. Having spent a holiday in Istanbul in recent years, I was thrilled that my Epicurean group was on our way to Coney Island Avenue for some Turkish cuisine and the tastes that were so familiar to me from the streets of Istanbul were right here in Brooklyn. Let's just say that although we were a loud, large group, the staff at this restaurant was so kind to us and brought us a great sampling of favorite dishes. FYI, it's BYOB.
