Lupe did a great job reupholstering a sectional sofa for my home. It was unusual size and configuration and having a custom replacement would have roughly doubled the cost of Lupe's quality work. Work Quality: The pleats and tucks are neat, uniform and consistent. It literally looks brand new again. After looking at the workmanship, I wanted to work with Sonny (or is it Glen?). I went and got an estimate for my boyfriend's reading chair. It was roughly $800 total, which was right in the middle of all the quotes. After looking at his fabric samples and not finding what I wanted, I left a note for Sonny to give me a call to figure out what other options I had (like bring in my own fabric). This is where I give him 3 stars - he called me a day too late. I had already decided to work with someone else. Rather than saying "Consider me next time", he ended a good interaction with a negative twist by saying that I'll get poor quality from another upholstery shop. Found Sonny here on Yelp, and just would like to say he did a fantastic job at repairing a couch cushion that my puppy (Emily) ate. He used an extra pillow I had, of the same material, and mended that cushion so that the patch work is barely noticable. He, also, fixed 2 other pillows Emily munched on by replacing the zippers, and tidying up the stands left behind. I tell you, his work is great, and so reasonably priced. Spoke with Glen on the phone and he was nice enough and talked me into bringing my brand new chair down for a visual estimate. When I arrived he ignored everything I wanted to have done and basically told me what I should do to my chair. I had just purchased the chair and wanted to change the fabric to this item and he told me I had to rip apart everything and then proceeded to tell me if it was 4 inches less wide it would be cheaper to do. I had the material, why would it be cheaper if it were smaller- it still has 4 corners? Anyways, i was upset and disappointed when i left, definitely not what I expected and felt like Glen was taking advantage of me and trying to increase the price, which by the way was more expensive than it would be to buy them new. Too bad Tack Shop, I would have had multiple referrals for you too now I have nothing great to say and business will go elsewhere read more

The webbing straps on our 31 year old recliner were falling apart, but we still love the chair. I called many repair shops and finally upholstery shops. I seemed to be unable to communicate what I needed. Lupe at Tack knew exactly what I needed. I just brought in measurements and he cut new straps and used the existing clips. They fit perfectly and we have a "new" chair. Even though they had a large project from SF, the straps were ready the next day. I highly recommend! read more

Wow! Lupe at the Tack Shop is so great! I took my car with convertible top to Palo Alto Upholstery because one of the seams had come apart. They said they would have to remove the top to sew it and that labor would be so costly that I shoukd just get a new top put on for $1000 ! I then took it to the Tack Shop and Lupe sewed it up while it was on the car for....$80! YAY LUPE! He saved me over $900 and my old top looks and works great! read more

So, if upholstery is covering furniture with padding and fabric, what would constitute "downholstery"? Regardless, this is a tiny little shop with an attached workroom tucked away in the warren of small manufacturing and repair shops that, well, "upholster" the stretch of San Carlos between Old Country Road and Industrial. You can see the Tack Shop from the Caltrain, which is how I spotted it. I visited recently to find out what it might take to repair a family-treasure rocker that my mother bought to rock my older sister when she was a baby. It's been recovered several times, but it's developed a gaping seam and it badly needs a cleaning. Sonny Fowler, the soft-drawled proprieter, listened patiently to my description and with a few deft upholstery technology questions was able to tell me with good confidence he can fix the seam problems while I wait, and at a good price to boot. He no longer offers a cleaning service or referral, though. I got a look at some of the work Sonny's shop is doing now and it's clear he does nice work at a fair price. read more

He picked up and delivered the chairs for free since we were within 1 mile of his shop and they finished them within 24 hours! I know the economy is slow but that's still impressive. Lupe is the best! I found him by driving by on a Saturday. I started by asking him to recover my grandmothers chair. i wanted to use milk or chalk paint for the arms and legs. He took the fabric off the areas for me to get better access to all the wood and let me paint it. Then he took it back and I picked the fabric. I picked a blue linen with dark blue streaks. Then we decided to have him create a custom BBQ cover for our back yard. HE DID AN AMAZING JOB!!! He took longer than expected but it was worth the wait!! Thank you Lupe! read more
