I got you. I will cover your a^%. This is what Mario said to me when I told him that the prototype cushion I made wasn't working for me. And he did. 110%. Mario is a busy guy - he upholsters people's furniture for a living. So, when I approached him about doing a crazy project for a build-a-chair-class at Stanford (this is a real thing, I promise - ME263), I wasn't sure if he would bite. He and Carrie, who delightfully reminds me of a mix between a sunflower and Jerry Seinfeld, helped me put the project together. And they followed my crazy whims to the ends of the Earth. First, it was going to be a massive chaise lounge. Could we add lumbar support? What kind of materials? They prefer to use their own, which I understand. We puzzled over it like we were planning the moon landing. Should the lounge velcro on? Should there be creases? A multi-part cushion or a single massive piece? Carrie was full of ideas, and going in to visit them was so key. Mario stopped by and we reviewed. The craftsman saw the challenge and, while noting its difficulty, heartily accepted. Weeks passed as I prototyped and realized the insanity of this project. All along, Carrie was keeping in good touch, dutifully reminding me how this project would take time as we were nearing my deadline. Then - a plot twist. My professors dissuaded me from the lounge chair, and it instead, became a guitar stool. I'm a drummer, and so I lacked a legit guitar stool. First world problems, I know. Anyway, back to Mario's! I brought them the wooden discs as requested (though they offered to make these for me too.) I'm pretty sure I gave Carrie a splinter, but it helps that she moonlights as a superhero, so no matter. I clearly marked the top and bottom and asked for two different designs. The first - if they could turn it around quickly for the class? Yes! Holy cow Batman, Mario turned it around in less than 48 hours! I dropped it off Tuesday morning, and I was back to pick it up on Thursday afternoon. Flawless victory. Was there an extra charge for the quick turnaround? No sir. In fact, the prices were very reasonable. Their work is worth more than they are charging, no doubt. And you know what? This was my first time making a chair, but I'm pretty sure it's Mario's 10,000th time. And so, he ignored my top and bottom marks, noting that I was wrong (first time, remember?) - the special magic screws (T-nuts I'm told they're called), go the other way. Mario did the right thing. He DIDN'T follow my instructions - thank God! The cushion was/is amazing. He was even able to go for 3" tall foam, when we had agreed that it was unrealistic. Boom! And here's the incredible epilogue. The 2nd design, to really wow my friends and Professors: it was pretty tricky, with a drawing of a guitar pick and two different colors on the top. I gave Mario a drawing I did on my computer, but not a fabric pattern or anything snazzy like that. It is gorgeous. He did an amazing job. It is SO close to what I drew - curves and all. What an artist. In all the hustle and bustle, Mario happened to misalign the complicated design (which, again, was so well done) with the screws, and he immediately went to work to fix it - 'I'll call you when it's done.' 2 hours later, my phone rings. Expedient, excellent, masterful. To quote the famous Daryl Hall and John Oates - Carrie and Mario - 'You make-uh my dreams come true!' Thanks again so much for working with me on this project. I bought an inexpensive bench from overstock.com and some custom fabric thinking I could DIY it. Well... I am in the middle of it and realize-- I am not skilled enough to make this work with a very unforgiving striped fabric. BUT I needed the bench finished for Saturday and it was Wednesday night. What to do? I pulled up the yelp reviews and at midnight emailed Mario's. When I woke up in the morning a message to "bring the bench" was waiting for me. So on my lunch break I ran over there. They were very friendly, quick to give me a quote, and ask me what I wanted, then made a couple of good recommendations themselves. That was yesterday. What did I do for lunch today? Picked up the bench. It's perfect and they even went above and beyond and finished the UNDERSIDE of the bench for me, which I hadn't even thought I could ask for given the rush timeline. Couldn't ask for more. Will be bringing by other projects. Just as a foot note. There's a real disconnect here. Mario does fabulous work. I've been going to him for years. I would say over the last decade I've been going elsewhere because of my Location. I returned to the area last summer and brought a chair in. The woman that manages the business was crass and rude. I wanted to order some fabric and she gave me these cheap ones to look at and told me that was my only option for what I was trying to do. It was not, obviously. I needed help coordinating the fabric ti another piece I wanted to have him do (a couch) and she had no clue. Is it too much to ask for soMe pleasant customer service?? MARIO REPAIRED MY SNOWBOARD BOOTS!! Seriously!! One of my snowboard boots (I own an older version of the K2 Ryker Boots) got pretty mangled the other weekend when I went up to Tahoe. I was first recommended to a shoe repair store but the shops I went to said I should try an upholstery shop because they have machines that can thread the material. Mario found a way to sew the ripped area of my boot no problem. The attention to detail was even more impressive. I doubt he has ever been asked to fix a snowboard boot before but he fixed it up as if he has been doing them his whole life. This strategy worked out so much more for me financially. I paid $30 for the repair rather than having to spend $150+ on a new pair of boots. read more

I am so thankful to Yelp for turning me onto Mario and Kerrie. When we purchased our home, I finally had the space for my grandmother's 1950s serpentine couch. It was in horrible shape though. I called Mario and he told me to send him photos of the sofa. Easy enough. Kerrie called and invited me to pick fabric. She let me take a couple books home. My husband and I were all over the place trying to decide, so we went back in. We needed to make sure the fabric would hold up to our three cats' claws, so my husband got the idea to scrape at the samples with an open paper clip. Kerrie was totally cool with our experiment! It worked, we found the perfect fabric! Mario took exactly as long as he said he would. There was a slight mistake with the wrap around cushions (this a very unique piece), but Mario made it right very quickly! The couch is absolutely beautiful. Even my very particular great-Aunt who helped pick it out all those years ago thinks it looks wonderful! Seriously, Mario is very gifted. Kerrie is a great person to work with. You won't be disappointed going with them. I am saving up to have my childhood sectional redone by them. I know they will do an amazing job! read more

OK so this place has great customer service. I needed help with some fabric and Mario's came up on a google search. Upon calling i was greeted by a gal who seemed unusually eager to help me. I had a unique situation that required her to call a rep for more info which she did even after I explained I was probably wasting her time. I later drove there as she suggested and she gave me a sample of what i was looking for, and continued to pour out books upon books of samples for me to look at. she then took me to the back area to choose from whatever fabric i thought i might be interested in. It's hard to explain her willingness to help but let's just say this type of service is very rare. I'm a very busy person who deals with LOTS of vendors and Mario's stands out very much so. I would honestly give more stars if i could. read more

I did not have a good experience, even though, Mario did eventually correct the problem and leave me with a satisfactory product. I was referred to Mario, so brought him my needs trustingly. I had a child's couch to recover and two weeks later brought a back cushion to an antique bench. Each time, Carrie, his secretary told me a couple of weeks. 4 weeks later, I called to see the status of my orders and was told it would be a couple more weeks. This concerned me because I really needed the bench back sooner than later. I felt put off by them as she told me they were really busy and no one could do my jobs except Mario and he is only one man. Were they putting other orders ahead of mine? I did not feel good about this, so I went to a friend in the business and she came with me to get my deposits back as I decided at that point to take my business elsewhere. When we arrived that following Monday, Mario showed me that he was in the process of completing my cushion, and that I could pick it up that following Friday. When I came to get it, I paid in full and took it home. To my dismay, it did not fit by more than 2 inches to large. So, I took it back and asked for a return of the check I just left them, to be paid in full when they did the cushion to the correct measurement. Carrie would not return my check. She said it was already stamped received, which I did not feel good about. So, I asked her then to not cash it until I had a satisfactory product. I asked Mario to compare the cushion he made with the original I left with him, and he had already thrown the original away. So, he came to my house to measure the space and then remade the cushion to fit. I now have the cushion I needed, but want to warn others to be careful when doing business with this company. Get clear dates on when your order will be complete and do not pay in full until you are sure you have a satisfactory product. read more

Big thumbs down. They would not honor their price quote, were closed during business hours, and the workmanship was just OK. I got an estimate from a gentleman at the store. We agreed to have the work done. Upon trying to pick up during business hours, however, the store was closed. I finally was able to find them in the office during business hours. The woman who rang me up said that the price that I was quoted was incorrect and would now be 20% higher. (There was no change in the service requested.) Only after a vigorous debate did she finally honor the price that I was quoted. The workmanship was not impressive as our cushions had more creases than I expected. read more

I just recently had two large chairs reupholstered by Mario's Bon Decor and everything from the ease of getting the original estimate with a large photo and sample of fabric was easy, friendly and professional. Kerrie in the front office followed up and had the fabric ordered and in before I ever brought the chairs to them. What happened next was the amazing part as I must have hit shop at the most perfect time because within 5 days I got a message that my chairs were ready. They turned out beautiful and actually even better than I expected as they are more comfortable to sit in then before as Mario enhanced the cushions. Just used Mario's Bon Decor for a repair to the arm of my couch. After getting an estimate from another furniture repair place and then being told that it would be too hard to fix, Mario came out to take a look and gave me an estimate for half the price the other guy was going to charge. He is obviously very experienced and knowledgable. He took just the arm of the couch back to his shop and had it repaired and returned in 24 hours.
