I took the loose, deflated cushions on my favorite 27-year-old wicker chair to be re-filled, using the original covers. Gary offered both a selection and demonstration of firmness of the seat cushion, as well as a careful analysis of the fill for the back cushion. Result: The renovated cushions fit perfectly, and the chair is decidedly more comfortable than it was when new. Gary also called us the following day to inquire if all was well. Gary and his crew did an absolutely gorgeous job restoring this Danish modern family heirloom (new foam, fabric, straps). If you have a treasured piece that needs refreshing don't hesitate. He was forced out of his decades-long shop in downtown San Carlos by the crushing burden of rising rents, into his present shop on E San Carlos Ave, a not-very-well travelled street. No one uses Yellow Pages any more, so he is kind of hard to find. Now Yelp or Facebook, but he is just beginning to master these media. A real shame, because he should be designated a National Treasure. Go take your old ragged furniture to him, get it better-than-renewed, then spread the word! Gary seems like an honest, knowledgeable, friendly person. Last week he gave me advice over the phone on tricks for getting my very large couch through my apartment door. He even let me bring the couch to his shop to give me advice on how to disassemble it. When I left he gave me free tacks and fabric fasteners. In addition to doing great work, Gary will make every effort to provide fast turnaround when needed. He works with many of the high end interior designers in the area, but at the same time he's quite happy to see the rest of us come through his doors. He's saved me from making several costly mistakes, and he always calls when he has a question (rather than taking the easier route of plowing ahead based on assumptions). I've had him re-upholster chairs he did for me years ago, and I always feel a little guilty because the upholstery is still in perfect condition, it's just that I've become tired of the fabric. Gary does outstanding work! He reupholstered two chairs and an ottoman for us. The ottoman was round and our fabric was a stripe. He was a genius in how he made the stripe pattern come out symmetrical. In addition, the chairs had tricky details that he and his assistant were able to re-create.
