Solid Mexican food spot in San Marcos. They have plenty of street tacos to choose from and they even have birria, cabeza, and lengua. But the lengua taco was $6 so I didn't get it. I order carne asada fries from every restaurant I go to, but ive never had one be practically inedible until this batch at taco bar. The Quesabirria and Al Pastor tacos are awesome but everything I've ever ordered here was delicious. We've ordered this to go and they've always given us what we asked for - sometimes forget the sauce but not a biggie- and as far as coming in they have good space midweek, not sure about weekends! First off, I felt that the customer service could be improved a little more in terms of friendliness, but then again, this feels more fast casual than it does like a formal restaurant. I guess I was hoping for more of a mom and pop feel, yet the interior gives me the feeling as if I was in a tiki bar. Apparently, this restaurant has been open for about 12 years or so? That's what I heard when I asked the cashier. It was either this, Boudin, or the Curry place, but I wanted something more authentic. Additional goodies - cheese quesadilla and chips. The people are very friendly! Portion size of ingredients in the taco are pretty generous and pricing a little more than the average but the quality pretty much makes it worth it! My boys and I eat here probably once a week. This is our regular dinner spot after Kung Fu practice. We end up here because we don't want to wait in traffic going east on the 78 at 5 pm. This place has a simple menu. The tacos are good and my kids usually get a bean and cheese burrito and a cheese quesadilla. You can't go wrong with that. I bounce around on what I get, I've had the Al pastor tacos, I think that is what they are known for. They are good. I have had better, but this place is convenient and the kids love it so we are here all the time. We love the ambiance of the place, TVs and beer. It doesn't get crowded which is nice. The toilets are clean and the service is quick and kind. There are no fountain drinks or agua frescas, which is a disappointment but you know what? Was starving after daughter's volleyball practice and found this place. Easy to jump on the 78 after. This place has beer which makes it an appealing option for a casual dinner. So it also straddles the worlds of taco shop and sit down Mexican. This can make the prices awkwardly high. $13.50 for an average sized Grilled Shrimp Burrito is too much. The shrimp was tasty in kind of a tomato Ranchera sauce and plenty of rice, of course. My daughter enjoyed it. The $5.98 Grilled Fish Taco was pretty but it was lacking in flavor. The Habanero salsa helped a little. I need to start asking what kind of fish they use. I'm afraid this was Talapia or Swai. I tried to eliminate all the chips with guac assuming Id take the rest home but nope, basically ate the whole plate. We ordered the California burrito (which comes with no pico) and the carne asada fries (which does come with pico) looked exactly right as we took our meal to go. The trouble came when we got home - the carne asada in both meals was practically flavorless and the salsas were so watery (we got chipotle and green, eschewing the xhot habanero).
