been binging on ROLLED TACOS lately, and Taco Bar's were disappointing. they were hot and crispy (a good start) but the avocado element was closer to a runny sauce than guacamole (and, yes, I know "mole" means sauce). very little cheese and lots and lots of shredded lettuce. not a good balance. Wyatt, my sixteen-year-old, thought his street-style POLLO TACOS were just okay. weird the chicken was cubed. I don't remember seeing it done that way before. i don't usually whine about prices, but $35 bucks for a dinner as basic as ours seems awfully expensive. read more

I have been in a couple of times now and have enjoyed my experience each time. Ordering is easy, the cashier both times (different people) have been friendly and welcoming. The menu is pretty large in terms of options. Plates, a bowl, tacos, breakfast, burritos. Housemade Jamaica and horchata to die for. They even do handmade tacos after 12pm. The restaurant is clean and tidy, the team stays on top of taking care of dirty tables and pre bussing to turn their tables faster. The best part is that this place is family owned and it feels good to support a local business and family, especially when their product is great. read more

Always excellent, every time. Not just very good. Excellent. Everything is cooked to order, including the tortillas. In fact, the corn tortillas are made fresh and grilled right in front of you. Their seafood burritos are especially good. The surf 'n' turf burrito (shrimp and carne asada) costs about a buck more than their other burritos and is so worth it. It has incredible flavor. Even the pollo street tacos are excellent. Freshly cooked chicken (cut in cubes), cilantro, onions and guac on freshly cooked corn tortillas. Sounds very basic but they are EXCELLENT. My only knock is that the guacamole is pretty listless and tastes like the washed up guac you find everywhere. It really has no relation to the real stuff. But the food here is OUTSTANDING. The prices are in line with junky run-of-the-mill taco shops so do yourself a favor, and pay the same for real quality. read more

The food quality here blew me away. I have high standards of comfort Mexican food and for the longest time in the North County San Diego area have only had 1 favorite that everyone I knew would agree with. After moving to San Marcos and trying it out, it was an instant winner! The flavor from the grill, and the seasonings have that authentic taste you don't normally find anywhere. Especially not in a drive thru. I have shared this place in the last few months with friends and it has also become their number 1 spot. While looking for some good taco spots in SD, I found this place on the handy Yelp device. We ordered a series of different tacos to try, but I was most excited to try the al pastor, especially since it was served on a spit or better known as a "trompo". The price was a bit higher than average considering the portions were standard. Considering this was my first "sit-down" experience since COVID-19 hit, I was excited nevertheless. My favorite was the pastor, simply because it had the pineapple with it along with the green avocado sauce. I also ordered a mini-sope which I thought was more worth it since it had the thicker tortilla, the beans, and cheese. That alone could have filled me up. I'll be back for the sopes. read more

I've been eating at Taco Bar since they opened. You won't find better street tacos (especially al pastor) anywhere. This little hole in the wall is where I take anyone looking for real-deal, authentic Mexican food, short of actually going into Mexico. The staff is always friendly. It's good to see the owner's son still helping at the restaurant. The food is always amazing. I do miss the molcajete bar they used to have. Their habanero salsa is great on everything, especially with some bean soup. Even after moving to Temecula I still make the drive down to Taco Bar. There really isn't anything else anywhere near as good as Taco Bar in San Marcos. read more

One of my favorite taco spots in North County San Diego! I only come here for one thing, the Al Pastor tacos! This place is small, but it has an open kitchen and the staff is always friendly! The Al Pastor is super flavorful and comes with a simple combination of toppings! The guacamole is fresh and is the perfect compliment for the meat. The pico de gallo here is also super fresh and is delicious with the chips they sell. I'd recommend adding some to your meal! Our party also got the chicken fajitas which we enjoyed and we found them to be flavorful and surprisingly good! Definitely stop in here next Taco Tuesday! read more

My husband ordered a pastor burrito and liked the chunks of pineapple throughout. My order was the birria tacos. I ordered 3, but 2 would have been plenty. Each taco had a generous portion of birria. Since moving into the area, we have been pretty much every other shop in this strip mall. Taco Bar has been on our radar since the beginning, but with Love Boat and L&L nearby, sometimes other places outvote it for dinner. So, with our son in school and an afternoon of chores ahead, we figured the time had come and finally took the plunge. The interior is cozy, small but nicely furnished with a good use of what little space they have. We ordered a few things, took a couple cups of the complimentary bean soup, and sat down. First off, that bean soup was damn tasty. Not too salty, great flavors, good consistency; it's easy to see why they offer it to sample. I started with a Tripas Street Taco with the meat crisped. The intestines themselves were pretty perfect, not burned, great seasoning, my only gripes would be the tiny size for the $4 cost and an absence of maybe a little bit guacamole for added salt and fat. Next on my plate was a Breaded Calamari Taco. With a larger tortilla than the tripas, but far less meat, this was a true disappointment. The calamari was more crust than protein, thin and mealy, and with only three thin strips of it, the flavor was lost in both the frying and under all of the slaw and chipotle dressing. Like street taco before it, it was massively overpriced at over $5 for what you get. My wife had the California Burrito. The meat inside, while tender, was a very thin cut of flank steak that fell apart on the tongue instead of having a nice chew you would get from other places. Alongside, the french fries were bland and mushy, where they should be crispy and add a good amount of salt. And with not much sour cream and guacamole inside, the whole of it was dry in bites. Like everything else, at almost $10, it was highly overpriced for what you get. In the end, she would rather have gone to Subway. Still a bit hungry after spending almost $10 on my own lunch, I went back for a couple of selections off the Taco Tuesday menu. With an Al Pastor and Carnitas Street Tacos for $1.25 a pop, the price was much easier to swallow. Both had great flavoring, with well grilled / cooked meat that was juicy and delicious. Eating these, it was much easier to see what other Yelpers saw in this place. All in all, the food wasn't too bad. The fare and flavors, I must admit, are far better at Tacos Alex up the street, but this will do in a pinch. Just know that the prices here are much higher for what you get in both quantity and (very much, so) quality. Pretty much the only thing I felt was worth the cost were those Taco Tuesday specials. It's tough to appreciate anything else when you pay $5 for something you're afraid to put even a drop of salsa on because you'd drown out your meal. read more

Taste like heaven!! Unassuming strip mall location; but plenty of parking and new and clean interior. The menu has everything you could want and I wished I lived closer to try it all. The surf and turf burrito was one of the most delicious thing a I've ever eaten; not hyperbole. The slightly smoky flavor of the asada and the juicy shrimp are just loaded down into this giant burrito. I was very hungry and ate the whole thing, but it could probably feed two if you weren't very hungry. But who can stop when the flavor is so good. The ratios of every ingredient were perfect and the flavors of the ingredients and sauces were perfect. They've perfected their flavor and it's a beautiful thing. Food is ready quickly and there is plenty of seating. Nothing not to live here. I can't wait to be in the area again, just to eat here. read more

We ask for cup of water they said they dont have it, only bottled water. How can you run a restaurant with tab water? Then we ask for cabbage and pico de gallo 2 oz for $6.
