Usually a well kept Taco Bell "Cantina," especially considering the traffic here. It's also open super late at night, so I've found it particularly convenient for a late night snack. I stop by this Midtown location for a quick bite about every other month or so when around Penn Station, and on occasion like to try out their limited time innovations. This time went for their Rolled Quesadilla with Steak and Poblano. Surprised how it looked, (see pic,) which was like a long crepe bringing back memories of the long defunct Magic Pan. Enjoyable, actually tasting pretty good, although I can't say it was a value for the apx. $6 once you included tax. Would I order it again? Given the menu rotation, Rolled Quesadilla not likely to be on the menu next time I stop by a Taco Bell. That being said, would recommend you checking it out. read more

This was very disappointing experience. I went to register to ask if they took cash, and waited for an employee to assist me. One staff walked up looked at a screen and began to walk away. I said, "excuse me, do you take cash?" He replied yes use the kiosk. I completed my order at the kiosk, and returned to the register to pay as directed by the kiosk. No one came to assist me, then another customer comes up, and he greeted with a welcoming tone and greeting. Security came and asked what am I waiting for, I replied to pay for my food. The employee returns to register wiping his mouth and eating food (the remnants on his face and mustache). He gave my change and I waited for my food. During this time i watched unsanitary actions of the same person, he licked his fingers-no gloves on-then open a patrons bag and put the food in the bag. At this time I began to take notice to the unsanitary practices. Staff handled numerous orders wearing the same gloves they used to open drawers, ovens, microwaves. Again the same employee from my initial interaction was fingers swiping his mouth, scratched his neck and proceeded to move about the food handling area. Note, it's been 15 min several orders gone out. Another employee called Rahard for the order no replied. Three more minutes he looks in my direction, yells what's your name. I asked who are you talking too? My name hasn't been called. 10 minutes later I walk up the other staff gave me my order shaking his head. The lobby okay. This is the slowest taco bell I've ever been to, severely disorganized and slow. There's a constant line of orders which is quicker than they can serve the customers, so bad service. They are a mess. Heard about these fancy Taco Bells in NYC. Was slightly disappointed to learn it wasn't an experimental kitchen type feel. They instead offer alcohol in store (like the whole city of NYC doesn't have this). I have to say the general manager (I think that is who he was) was very kind and helped walk us thru the menu. The workers here really took care to make the orders (compared to some of the Taco Bells I have been to). I also really liked the beer Emperor State Building Montage (very unique look for a Taco Bell). Ended up getting a chicken cantina burrito. This Taco Bell Cantina location is centrally located in midtown, relatively clean, and not as packed as I had expected it to be given it's easily accessible location and the fact that it serves alcohol. We ordered through the kiosk, and after a little bit of technical difficulty trying to get our Taco Bell rewards points (obviously a must), we were able to place the order. I opted for a beer, but my partner truly lived mas with his alcoholic frozen Baja Blast, which I have to admit was delicious, but I'm old and I know that drinking a full one of these would've given me the worst hangover. I found the food prices to be slightly higher than my go-to Taco Bell in Queens, but still affordable none the less. Drink prices are on par with any run-of-the-mill NYC bar, around $8 for a beer and a little more for a fancy frozen concoction with hard alcohol. Service was slower than I'm used to as well but I guess that's to be expected. If you're in the area and want to stop for an affordable lunch with a fun drink, I think this place is worth a visit. read more

Nobody helped repeated to tell me to use the kiosk I tried again, nothing. So decided to go to another establishment, to find the next day I was charged for food I never got! I'm not a Taco Bell fanatic to be honest but the fact that this one sells lq had me stop by. The drink is pretty much a slushy you can add lq to. I had a margarita but the only lq option it gave me on the kiosk was to add rum. Rum in a margarita? The woman who took the order was so nice. I asked her if there was tequila available and she gladly popped open the tequila to add to my drink. It didn't taste like a margarita to me to be honest it was very syrupy but the woman who helped was so nice and it was a good amount of lq in the drink so it did what it needed to do. Pretty cool Taco Bell in Times Square. This is a Taco Bell Cantina so they have alcoholic options on top of their regular food options which I think is pretty legit. They have someone letting people in and out of the bathrooms to ensure that tons of random people aren't coming in off the street and their food comes out pretty quickly. The reason for 3 star? Well while we were in here there was two guests that came in harassing other guests, one was trying to pick up girls that looked visibly bothered by the gentleman's presence and the gentlemen was being loud and disruptive. Then the gentleman went to the trash can and pulled drinks and food out of the trash and was let into the bathroom where they washed their cup out and then started filling their drink up, then... the gentlemen walked up to the counter and simply stood their annoying the staff trying to get free food and they were picking up sauce packs and drinking them. Now I feel sad if this person can't afford a meal and had to do these to be able to have food for the evening, it's truly a sad thing; but harassing guests and trying to pick up on girls that clearly want to be left alone whole staff watches, then almost allowing it to take place by seeing it and not stopping it and then not asking them to simply leave while just standing in front of the staff while drinking sauce packets digging through the trash, is clearly not the answer. I cannot comment on the food as I never recieved my order after standing any waiting on it for 40 minutes at the counter. I asked several times for my order and was ignored . when I asked for the manager the person who presented themselves were standing there the entire time his employee dumped my entire order on to the counter top in rage after I asked for my money back . I asked the "manager" on duty how could he allow such behavior . he claims they were busy and that my food wasn't given to me because they deal with customers who order from the kiosk first and those are the only customers who they call by name. Ehh I've read some of the reviews and I don't seem to have the same perspective. For one, we're referring to Taco Bell (a guilty pleasure, but not the gold standard for any Tex Mex food). I also came here in what was a relative down time (Friday night at 6:30ish, which is the time when commuters are well on their way home, the rest of the people are at happy hours or anywhere else, and there were no games at MSG. I found it quite easy to order from the kiosks. Didn't seem to have much of an issue ordering. Sure, it's pricier than most Taco Bells, but duh. I ordered a beer, so you have to provide your ID to a specific person handling alcohol. There's a selection of a few different beers, but this ain't a bar. The food came out pretty quickly and I was off to eat. I really like the layout/style of the Cantinas as there's plenty of seating and the ceilings are quite high to provide an airy type of environment. As for the food, one of the complaints some people had was that it was quite skimpy. I ordered the typical Mexican pizza (no meat) and nachos/cheese. I recognize that complaint in that I probably receive more beans (without paying extra) in the Mexican pizza and maybe a bit more cheese sauce, but it wasn't egregious. I also expect a bit of skimpiness in NYC anyways. I still was quite full after dinner though with the food (and beer of course). I was actually trying to grab a couple slices of pizza nearby, but stumbled across this Taco Bell and couldn't resist. If I'm around Penn next time, I'll be back. read more

I got back to my hotel on West 37th Street, and then I got hungry. Having already treated myself to a nice dinner earlier in the evening, I wanted a quick and affordable bite to eat. Lo and behold, the 8th Avenue Taco Bell Cantina. A few drops of rain were falling as I walked the short distance to the restaurant. Inside, a line of people waited to order at the counter, while others stood at the self-serve kiosks, tapping out their choices. I hit a kiosk and ordered a few dollar menu items. I sat and waited for my food. Outside, the drizzle turned into a downpour, and customers flooded into the restaurant. (One guy, holding a 2 Bros pizza box, was clearly just taking shelter.) The order screen swelled, and I held my breath. When my food was ready, I ate a burrito on the spot, splashing on about three packets worth of fire sauce. I'll admit, it hit the spot. I took the rest of my order back to my hotel to eat in guilty privacy. Hot, fresh, delicious. Why did I ever second-guess this decision? Do note that they serve beer at this Taco Bell! This is low key the best spot that you can enjoy a pre-show drink before heading to MSG. Especially considering that a cocktail in MSG can run you upwards of 15-20 bucks. The alcoholic slushies are where it's at. Choose your slushie flavor, select your alcohol of choice (vodka, tequila, rum) and add an extra shot (or even two) if you are feeling crazy. I went with a mule slushie with vodka and it was absolutely delicious. Super gingery and refreshing. If you aren't walking around with one of these in your hand over the summer you are doing it wrong. And all of this alongside a crunch wrap. Sold! read more
