First off let me tell you my beef is with Taco Cabana in general, this company is obviously ran by complete morons. Why do I say that? Because I have never gone to a Taco cabana without a bad experience occurring. About this location my most recent experience was with an employee they had who was covered in tattoos with skulls and fire and had the big ear holes. The kind of creepy guy you would expect to see shooting up heroin back behind some alley in the bad part of town. On the flip side, he was fairly nice, but probably stoned. He took my order for some breakfast tacos which I had a coupon for at 99cents a piece. I asked in the drive thru for hot sauce explicitly before going to the window and he handed me my bag without it, but I give him credit for catching himself on it. A lot better experience than the many times I have been where they completely left out portions of meals and such and my Aunt had to drive back (that was the Rockwall location), she said she has to do it EVERY time. Other bad experiences at other locations were things like bone in my meat and such, and for the ridiculous price of the menu for the items being sold, I should have gold plated tacos with 93/7 beef. That brings me to value, the value at Taco Cabana is horrid, some of the most patheticly high prices for the smallest food portions I have ever seen at a Tex Mex establishment. Where for $5.00 I will get stuffed at Taco Bell, I would pay at least $12.00 at Taco Cabana. The breakfast tacos I got for 99 cents were actually regular at $1.09, meaning I saved a whopping .9 cents because Taco Cabana is ran by Scrooge McDuck obviously. Speaking of the time with my Aunt, she was like "Hey! Let's go get Fajitas for everybody!" I was like, cool! (like 5 people) We got the Fajitas, it was like 4-5 little pieces of meat and a little bitty thing of chips and hot sauce. lol No beans, no rice, she payed like $40.00 for it... uh... yeah... and they weren't even really fajitas, they were little rolled soft tacos with the meat already in them and really nothing good like peppers or onions. What a terrible place, I hope it goes out of business soon, it is in my opinion false advertisement to put such a horrible place in such a pretty building and give it such a nice sounding name. Oh and the hot sauce.. omg so bad...so bland. Actually the breakfast tacos had no flavor either and they were TINY. Oh yeah, and so one of my co workers went there a week or two ago and ordered barbacoa tacos (more expensive for their little mini 2 bite tacos) and got something else, I guess the flavorless but greasy chorizo. Let me state that I feel ratings usually should really be kind of an "overall" assessment of food, service, etc. Like if I'd been to a place 6 times, and 5 times it was great, 1 time it wasn't so great--I'd probably still call the place great. This time it's different. I had one experience here that just takes the cake. It was ridiculously terrible, people need to know, and because of it, this place gets the lowest rating possible from me. Period. It was almost midnight and I wanted some cheese enchiladas. I also wanted to eat at my house, so I needed a drive-thru. I had been to TacoC many times before, so I got behind a suburban in line. I think it was 7 minutes before they pulled away from the ordering menu. In retrospect, I should have followed suit when the guy in line behind me reversed the car, stuck his finger out the window at TacoC, and yelled "It's taking too f-ing long!!" as he peeled out. I optimistically drove up to the menu board, decided on my order and waited for someone to say something to me. After a few minutes, I said "Hello?" and the person on the other end said "I'm too busy to take your order". Dumbfounded, I waited a few minutes and then tried again. His response was "I'm too busy!". I asked if he was joking, and I got no response. I then asked for a manager, and the person informed the that HE WAS THE MANAGER. He again stated that he was too busy, so I offered to come inside to place my order. I didn't really understand what he said to that, so I decided to just leave, and I left the ordering window. I then realized that there were 2 vehicles in line in front of me (I swear this had all taken 15 minutes by now) and there was a car behind me. The guys in the car were extremely out of it, and I approached them, got a strange feeling, and then locked myself back in my car. I was stuck! I sat there and stewed about the horrible service, the fact that I was trapped, waiting in line with no food awaiting me, that anyone had hired this guy--much less made him a manager. I marinated for 30 minutes in that drive-thru line, waiting for other people to get their food. Yes, 30 minutes. When he saw me, he left the window--I'm guessing to gather himself together before the imminent storm. He tried to smile at me, and I let him have it. I don't remember the last time I was that angry. The exchange wasn't pretty. He was extremely subservient, and he just cowered. He agreed that he was a bad manager! The other people in the kitchen were entertained and looking on. I'm not necessarily proud of myself, but it was a sincere reaction, and TacoC and that guy wasted almost an hour of my life. He ended up giving me some free cheese enchiladas, but I was still p'd off. I called the corporate offices to make a complaint, and I got caught in some sort of loop phone system. I frequent Taco cabana and this one in particular because it's close to my work but I will not go back here anymore. It took them 26 minutes for a salad. Lettuce, cheese, meat, and sour cream. Meanwhile the people after me got their food and one of them ordered a salad. So when I said something to them because I'm now late to work she said she's working on it. This place has food I love but is operated by a holes. I drove 15 minutes to get there 30 minutes before the time that they close. The door was locked and people were sitting inside so I called the number. The moron that answers tells me the time they close inside is midnight at 11:40. He then tells me that Drive thru is open. That would have taken over ba half hour to get my food. How about you stay open till the time you advertise. I generally like Taco Cabana (TC) as a "Mexican Cafe" in north Texas. They usually have what I like to get and this review isn't necessarily focused on this one dining experience. It's always clean and never too crowded. I walk up to make my order. The guy says what I assume 'can I take your order?', couldn't really hear him as he's a soft talker. I'm ordering away, he interrupts and 'says for here or to go?'. I'm thinking there is a better way to so that, but I said 'oh, that's what you said. You see, I couldn't hear you.', no response. I received my food, got a steak & chicken fajita and brisket taco. I posted pictures to view, I think I'm kind of done with paying what I do and getting a tortilla and a little more than a few strips of meat. This is my experience with almost all TC's nearly every time. I recently worked in the Rio Grande Valley (McAllen area) for a month and at first was a little surprised that no TC was to be found down there. It didn't take long to realize why though. Down there, there are other similar set up restaurants that blow the doors off of TC. Great portions, real Mexican food that even Mexicans like and the places are normally always crowded for a reason. Part of me wishes I didn't know any better and experience what places like this should be like. I wish I didn't care about the portions vs the price. I love the idea of self service when it comes to condiments so I get plenty of salsa, pico de gayo and jalepeno to take with me on take outs. This location is close to my job so it's convenient. I have ordered the super nachos (personal size) many times and it has never come out as horrible as it did today. I went through the drive thru and placed my order. When he repeated it back to me he said bean and cheese nachos. I corrected him and said that I wanted super nachos which comes with sour cream and guacamole and shredded lettuce in addition to cheese and meat. I looked in my bag and it was bean and cheese nachos with a miniscule amount of shredded chicken. I took it inside and the employee named Marcos insisted that's the way it comes... uh no. Over 4 years of coming to this location and consistently complaining about the same issues and they continue to get worse. Not only is this place already expensive but my order is messed up 95% of the time with incompetent or careless employees and now I blame managers and corporate at this point. No one clearly cares. Same complaints throughout yelp and other sites. This time I was read back my 8 items correctly. Charged $24+ and get home only to find out 3 ground beef tacos aren't ground beef and the nachos have NO CHIPS. WHAT??!! He repeated my burrito with sour cream inside bc I always make it clear to put it in the burrito and it was of course too much to ask so it's in a container on the side. Asked for salsa verde and the cashier tells me their president of the company got rid of it. I only come her for this salsa, otherwise I wouldn't accept this type of service. I was mortified. I went between cabana and bueno this evening. Knew I should have gone to bueno for a correct order. So he said verse salsa is gone for good. 8 items, 4 incorrect and no napkins as usual. This Taco Cabana has the worst service. After taking the order of the person in front of me, the cashier walked away and just stood there without acknowledging me or even asking me to wait just a minute. 5 people had accumulated behind me over the next 5-10 minutes, when another employee went to the register to clock in. The cashier went up to help her, then walked away and just stood there again by the assembly station 3 feet away while the other lady worked fulfilling orders. Welp, THAT was a waste of money. I ordered the Steak Street Taco Plate. Comes with: 3 steak street tacos on corn tortillas topped with a diced onion/cilantro mix with lime, rice, choice of beans, 2 flour tortillas, guacamole and lettuce....too bad I didn't get the guacamole or the flour tortillas like I was supposed to. Also, they didn''t ask me what beans (since I have a choice) and didn't ask if I wanted a drink. It just said NO DRINK on the receipt under my order so....does it come with one? Hopefully they would have asked if it did...I really hope so. The tacos had no flavor. The rice was dry. The onion/cilantro mix was mostly cilantro...like, half the plate was cilantro. Wow, pretty disappointing! Got breakfast tacos here after a friend recommended I try TC's and I was bitterly disappointed. Very bland and the brisket appeared to be old and cooked days earlier, so that it was as though the meat was dried out and lacked flavor. We wondered if it was brisket or possibly pork. In one brisket taco, I wondered if there was a piece of chicken included. The best taco was the bacon, egg and cheese that my wife ate and she commented that it needed salt, badly. The tacos were so bad we didn't finish eating them. The wait was long, food expensive and the final product awful. I would highly recommend that anyone wanting to eat breakfast here try a different location or another restaurant. I remember thinking that McDonalds would've actually been better.
