I travel for work and this current project has me in the Dallas TX area. The hotel is in Addison and there's no lack of restaurants within walking distance from my lodgings, so I will be visiting several between now and the holidays...and tonight, it's Freebird Burritos (though they have tacos and nachos too). Freebird is a chain and they're quite popular with Texans, although the dining room was vacant when I came to try their fare. I opted for their chicken tacos and they were good...for a Subway-style buffet. My tacos had refried beans, cubed white meat chicken, cheese, salsa and a side of queso and chips (extra charge). It hit the spot for sure. If you want fast good food and prefer a limited Mexican style menu, give Freebird a try. read more

So this is a guilty pleasure for me and very nostalgic from my college days at A&M. So Freebirds started as a burrito shop where you walk down the line putting any and all ingredients into a soft warm tortilla.(think subway for burritos) Lots has changed now as they have bowls, quesadillas, tacos and other options. They have multiple meat options (chicken dark and white meat, steak, pulled pork, and meatless chorizo etc.) plus all sorts of sauces like queso sour cream guacamole and salsas as well as tons of veggies I had a freebies burrito on a flour tortilla, they have a cayenne option that is good too, with steak and chicken, black beans Spanish rice, and all sorts of other things in it. It was busy inside the restaurant but it was during the lunch rush. Food was hot and service was good. Maybe a bit pricey for fast casual now, but still a huge amount of food. Wow! Ordered at 6:50 pick up time is 7:03, it's 20 minutes later and I'm still waiting. They assisted people that came behind me, when I saw the lady continue on my order after the line was gone I noticed chips in the bowl. I requested chips on the side. I step up to avoid wasting food, the moment I spoke up she looked at the receipt (as if I would lie) and tossed the bowl in the trash with an attitude. I moved out of town 3 years ago and was sad to find no Freebirds in Virginia. So naturally while I am home, I had to make a visit. When we walked in the door, not one person was very inviting. No hello, not even a hi.. Just a bunch of people standing around. While we looked at the menu, no one offering any guidance. As I was ordering I was trying to be engaging with the employees.. but they didn't seem to care. Just like robots, make food and then move on. Honestly the food was great. Perfect portions. It was just the employees that really turned us off.. Everyone seemed to have "allergies" and were blowing their noses disgustingly loud by the food area. I was trying to talk to one of the employees about shirts and the manager kept cutting me off to talk to him about something posted on a board. Guess it was my last great Texas experience as I head back to Virginia. Maybe another location will be better when I come home again to visit. read more

This is actually my second visit to Freebird's. After the first visit I swore I'd never return, it was so bad. On my first visit, the burrito was so incredibly salty it made my blood pressure zoom. After today's visit, I think it must have been a fluke. I got a small chicken burrito, and it was very tasty. The hybrid size is just right for lunch time. I like it that they have plenty of topping options from which to choose, you basically can put just about anything you want on there. It was all fresh and tasty. My bf and I have been coming to this location for quite awhile and we loved it. The staff was friendly and always making conversation as well as maintaining everything pretty clean. Well we went back after not going for a couple months and noticed they "remodeled" and hired completely new staff..? We went in at 8:30, (place closes at 9:30), and stood there for about 10 min before anyone said anything all the while some other employee with has mask not covering anything, was complaining about it being busy and started removing all the food and putting it in the sink even though orders were still coming in. The meat from here is supposed to be charred, it's the reason why I decided to check it out. It was nothing of the sort. The rice was hard, and so was my flour tortilla. The restaurant was a mess. Not only did staff have no idea what they were doing, but they were unprofessional. It took a while for them to notice I was waiting to order. Let's face it.. I love burritos. I've had a Qdoba Q card since before they were electronic. I have my order down to an exact science at Chipotle. Freebirds added the rotation when I moved down to Austin about 8 years ago. One of the most awesome things about Freebirds is that they have different sizes for their burritos! Standard sized burrito (more in line with Chipotle/Qdoba) is their "Freebird" (go figure). Next time I go, I swear I'm going to get the smaller Hybrid as I always have leftovers of the Freebird (and about 2/3 of the Monster left when I made the mistake of getting that bad boy). The reason why I always have left overs at Freebirds? Simple.. you can rev up your burrito by adding on Chips/salsa/queso/guac and a drink. And it's only a couple bucks more. What a deal! It's a personal-ish (it's large for one person to eat all of the chips/queso AND a burrito AND a drink) serving of some tasty chips and tasty queso. They're doing a special this weekend where when you buy an entree, you can get a free chips/queso side if you mention it. So, of course, we had to go down there. Their burrito toppings are way more extensive than other places.. 2 kinds of rice to choose from (Mexican rice or the Cilantro/Lime ala Q or Chipotle), 3 kinds of beans (black, pinto, refried!), meats (they offer white meat chicken or dark meat chicken rather than one "chicken" offering-- Pro Tip: get the dark meat! It's way way juicier), and TONS of toppings (shredded cheese, queso sauce, tons of hot sauce, pico, tomatoes, corn, onions, cilantro, guac, sour cream, fajita-style peppers and onions, etc. etc. etc.) seriously, the list goes on. Also, to keep in the line of CHOICES!, they also have different tortillas you can choose from! Regular flour tortillas, wheat tortillas, spinach tortillas, cayenne tortillas. Awesome possum. I visit Freebirds the least of the 3 big burrito places.. But that's mostly because eating there makes me so full I want to puke. In a good way. Hooray for Freebirds! Oh, and they have WiFi and Pepsi Products (So I can get my Pepper and boyfriend can get his Dew). Double win! I want to try their breakfast burritos/tacos at some point, too. Tip - especially over lunch, order and pay online for a quick pick-up! I love Freebirds! This location always gets busy over lunch. There's a parking lot but there are lots of other lunch places here, so finding a spot can be tricky, so be patient when you pull in and don't be afraid to walk (the lot is not THAT big, and you can probably use the exercise before chowing down). The toppings are always fresh, the service is always friendly, and the food never disappoints! If you've been here before and are stuck on the burritos, I dare you to try the freedom salad. Delivery can be such a hit or miss sometimes. I debate for literally hours if i want to order and what i want to order. It all comes down to detail, if restaurants can't follow simple instructions it makes it difficult to want to order again because i can't expect my order to arrive to my liking. For example: schlotzkys never sends hot sauce packets that were requested. Taco places leave out sauce and so on. The point is the little things make for a bigger picture. So finally i landed upon Freebirds. I am an avid Chipotle eater so was happy to see a similar option available for delivery. I ordered a chicken burrito bowl with sautéed veggies (as well as other add ons) via grubhub. if you have ever dined at a chipotle you have seen the lineup of food and know that sautéed veggies typically consist of peppers and onions so that is what i was expecting and what is listed on Freebirds menu. My delivery driver arrived quickly but upon opening my bowl it appeared a little off. The first thing i noticed was that there was a huge clump of cooked onions in the middle of the bowl with one teensy weensy bell pepper in there. What the heck. I would have liked more of a variety of the sautéed veggies. And a clump of cooked onions on top of a handful of raw onions does not sound appetizing. So i am shuffling the food around and realize that there is not even any chicken in the bowl at all. Now i am really just thrown off. and now looking at the pictures i just realized they didn't even include shredded cheese either lol wow But that's not it, i figured well i am not going to eat my bowl so i guess i will munch on the chips and queso i ordered. So the queso is wrapped in aluminum foil, i start to pull it out but find the lid was not secured and the queso spilled throughout the foil. This must have been after the lunch rush or something and they were scrambling for food i really have no idea but was not thrilled with the preparation from the restaurant.
