It's a large flour tortilla filled with filet tip beef Colorado, refried beans and rice, smothered with its own savory sauce and melted cheese. The beef Colorado is always tender and very tasty! We ate at Taco City multiple times over a long beach weekend getaway, as we were staying a few blocks away. Not surprisingly, the tacos stand out the best items we ate. The cheese enchiladas were also pretty good, along with a few of the desserts we tried. I would recommend just getting ala cart because the rice was disappointing. It was crunchy, as if it wasn't cooked all the way. The refried beans were okay, not great. Service most of the time was very good and friendly, but one time we stopped by to pick up a small to-go order, and clearly, we were forgotten about, even though the place was not that busy. The online menu is not up to date, so keep that in mind when ordering to-go. If you are ever in the area, I recommend a visit. Get the beef tacos and salsa and chips. This isn't the first time! Got take out again and was very disappointed with it again!!! They have gone down hill! Veggie burrito where the heck are the veggies?? No lettuce No tomatoes No onion, just beans and rice! And they even forgot to give us our sour cream and guacamole!! After asking them to make sure everything would be in the bag! We have been coming to Taco City since the 80's when Carlita owned it. Once it was sold, it's continually gone down hill over the years. Tonight we decided we will not be going back. The service was AWFUL. We sat for one hour while people that came in a long time after us got their food. We could see food sitting in the window and no one would take it to the tables. They claimed that had two new kids working in the kitchen. We finally had to take our food to go because we were going to be late. I opened my to-go box because I was starving and wanted a few bites and the food looked absolutely disgusting. The ground beef had super hard chunks in it that you couldn't chew. I have memories that go way back of this place and it has and always will be one of the best Tex-mex restaurants. It's right by the beach (walking distance) and service is quick and friendly. Normally this place is packed but we came on a slow night and service was incredible. They use to have you order at the bar but a server came to us and the restaurant was beautifully updated. I loved the indie music playing. They also had our basketball game playing. Ariel was our server. She was attentive, friendly and a huge reason we enjoyed our visit. They give you complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa is pretty plain but I enjoyed it. Our food came our surprisingly fast and we were all pleasantly surprised by the portions. My husband got the Chings or Chongs which was like chimichanga sushi rolls. My husband loved it. I got the taco/enchilada combo. I love the taco shell and the food was very filling with nice portions. Our baby loved their pinto beans and guacamole. Our son got the chicken nugget kids meal and he was so stoked because his chicken was dinosaurs. We paired our meals with margaritas and they were really good. Not your average sour mix flavor. Taco City 2955 S Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach, FL 32931 4 Stars Just reading my random name generator caused my senses to vellicate just a bit as I was staying beachside for this meal. Blinking benignly up at me was the name of a restaurant that had been in the same location for over 40 years. At this point, Taco City has to be a local landmark and they must be doing something right. They also have an express counter at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, though that doesn't necessarily mean anything as servicemen and women like anything that isn't an MRE. As I was not, nor have I ever been in the Air Force (thank you to those that have been in any branch of our Armed Forces), I hooked a Louie just shy of the Cape and pulled into "civie" Taco City. I was greeted warmly upon entering and taken almost immediately to a table. Glancing at the menu, I noticed that it was much more diversified than your average Tex-Mex cantina. My server soon approached, introduced himself as Sequoia and asked if I was ready to order. I noticed that Sequoia was also the manager or at least the manager on duty. I found him to be very outgoing and sagacious while unreservedly answering all my questions. You didn't think I just went in and ordered blindly, did you? Do you? If not, I would suggest you start. The most important being, is this dish assembled or made? I asked Sequoia for an order of Chings or Chongs and Dos Hard Tacos (chicken). I sat back and soaked up the fantastic atmosphere of the place and quicker'n a cat on a hot tin roof, Sequoia returned with my food. If it tasted half as good as the aromas running ahead, I knew I was in for some decent chow. Snapping the prerequisite pictures, I grabbed my tools of epicurean destruction and commenced to "reviewing." First up was my order of Chings or Chongs. This looked so interesting on the menu that I had to order it, and I was not disappointed. Consisting of shredded chicken fried in a large flour tortilla served along with freshly shredded iceberg, hand chopped tomatoes, Mexican cheese and black olives this dish was as delicious as it was unique. The chicken was tender, juicy and full-flavored. Turning my attention toward the Hard Tacos was not as easy as one might think, but I had a job to do. Grabbing a taco in my mitt, I took a good-sized bite and was delighted. This was also pleasant on the palate. Everything was fresh and one taste tells you it was made, not assembled in the kitchen. Well done, kitchen miens. Is Taco City going to win a James Beard award? Absolutely not. However, they aren't aiming for that either. What they are aiming for is what they provide and that is a fun, interesting menu with a great deal of heterogeneity in the crowded Tex-Mex field. This place is well run and the food is above average. The Big Boy says, "If you're looking for some Tex-Mex grub with a jovial atmosphere and decent food, try Taco City. I've wanted to try this place for a long time because I live in Sebastian but travel to Cocoa a lot, so I'm always passing by. Finally I did and it was great. You order at the bar and they bring the food to whichever table you choose. You can also eat at the small bar. They have a few craft beers and make their own crunchy taco shells. My husband works at Cape Canaveral, so he comes here all the time and I always have major FOMO so he decided, one day, to take me to the beach, then here for lunch. We were super early, so we waited outside with the dog until they opened. A few minutes even before they opened, I was welcomed inside. They immediately had chips and salsa ready for us. I said we will be sitting outside since we had the dog. They took our order and said they would bring our food out. The server was efficient and told me where to find the silverware & limes/lemons. While we anticipated our grub, my hubby went to wash his hands and before he returned, the Fire Balls were served. They have optional Cheese, Jalapeño Ranch & Sour Cream to accompany. I selected "D. All of the above". Shortly after, my tacos and husband's Chings & Chongs made their entrance. Everything was amazing. They even have their own hot sauces. The Scorpion taste like either Ghost Pepper or Carolina Reeper. I couldn't taste the Garlic Habanero because the heat of the Scorpion never really died, so TIP OF THE DAY: try the Garlic Habanero BEFORE the Scorpion. The view of the outdoor water eliminated the stress of the day and we enjoyed our food in a relaxing environment. DEFINITELY will be back. The best way to describe it is to say it's like grandma's Sunday stew, with a Mexican taste profile, wrapped into a tortilla smothered in red sauce. The rice was good, fresh, tasty, with a heavy cumin flavor. Not my favorite; but, the quality came through. Oh My Gawd, their queso is quite literally the best thing in this world. It is melty cheesy goodness. Do yourself a favor folks, don't skip this and go ahead and treat yoself to a large! The Margarita Chicken Salad had great flavor with shredded chicken, avocados, lettuce, cheese, and your choice of dressing. The two taco combo (shredded chicken) with rice and beans was very flavorful and filling. For drinks we went with two sweet teas which were very good. This is the BEST Taco place ...any day but of course Taco Tuesdays are great . All ingredients are fresh. The taco shells are made fresh ....chips are thin and crunchy. The salsa is yummy and chunky.
