This is four stars for a chain like taco burrito place. I think I chose right by getting shredded beef and getting it wet. I did it half enchilada sauce and half queso because of my burrito maker. Suggested it that way and I thought she had good ideas. Oh you got to pay some money to upgrade to shredded beef but it's totally worth it. They steam the tortilla. They'll put anything you want in it. I think the habanero salsa is very nice. I should have maybe added a little corn or something crazy. Next time I'll add more salsas. I thought the staff was very attentive even though they were kind of cleaning up at the end of the night. I still got a smile within a minute of me walking in and started my order. Do yourself a favor and go to the Taco Bell down the street. I think this place is competing for the worst customer service & food in the area. It's actually disgusting how gross the counter is. One of the guys squeezed lime on my fish taco and just tossed the lime to the back of the counter and it fell on to the line floor. Cant imagine what the back of the house looks like. read more

Left this place in disbelief and so did all of my friends. This was easily the worst service I have EVER experienced. The two guys working afternoons on 6/15/24 were so rude, had a bad attitude, and were not helpful at all when I asked which tacos they suggest, I got nothing but a shrug back in return...and getting yelled at for asking what he said because he speaks under his breath just unbelievable. Long lines, out of fish all weekend, only 2 people working - nightmare! This location has been on the slow decline for years. They are not well-equipped to handle the large numbers of hungry patrons who come in off I-90 for the county fair, rodeo, or weekend camping etc further down the interstate. When we came in last there were two people working and a line of 20 people just ordering regular taco bell/taco time type orders. What used to set Taco del Mar apart was the fact that they have fish tacos/burritos. Went here twice. Once on my way to Seattle and then on the way back to the east side of the state. Food was consistent and good. But my first stop the cheese for my chips and queso was small so I bought a second. On the way back I asked for an extra and I would pay and then I got three and wasn't charged. Benefited me but I was meaning to pay for it. Also on the way back I hope it was the girls first day running a cash register cause my bill was $13.69 and I gave her $20.69 cause I was getting rid of change. She looked at me confused and said your bill is only $13.00. Told her yes and a $20 is the smallest bill and she proceeded to only take the $20 and then count change to give me $6.31 and all the other change I had put down. I wanted $7 back and to use my change but apparently she didn't understand the concept. Other then that staff was nice and friendly. The restaurant is filthy. They can't be bothered to sweep the floors, wipe the tables or the counters. Their make line was a disaster and I do mean an utter disaster as it hadn't been wiped down in a long time. The bathrooms weren't any better. There was food stains on the walls and even the counters near the soda machine was filthy. The employees were too busy goofing off and the leader was too busy taking a smoke break to bother cleaning their store. This store is a disgrace and it didn't have to be that way. It's the closest thing to chipotle or qdoba that Ellensburg has to offer and they're doing a good job. Service is usually really friendly and the inside area is never a mess. This was a pretty delicious Taco Del Mar! It's pretty crowded, but the perfect place to grab some food while the Tesla is charging behind the restaurant. The burritos are much cheaper than Chipotle and honestly about just as good. I recommend getting a spinach tortilla and the combo. Not the best mexican cuisine, and not the best taco del mar. Usually we only stop here on the way to Seattle. All of the food is okay. Nothing shines particularly well, and nothing is particularly fresh. The employees are all really friendly however, and the interior is oddly fun and goes with the surfer hut by the sea theme. Their quesadillas are probably the best bet here, as most of the meat options are not particularly worth your time, and may give you an upset stomach especially on a long road trip. It is not super speedy, but it gets the job done. There are not a whole lot of options on this strip off of the freeway, but this one is not top of the list for food or for speed. Cheers read more

We haven't been in a decade and thought we'd stop for the nostalgia of it. It was a huge mistake. The food, while plentiful, was barely lukewarm and had very little taste. There was a long line and when we finally got to the front to order, we could see why. The service was slow. There were people coming into the store and people leaving the counter to go into the back room to talk and joke around with the people coming from outside the store. They didn't even let their coworkers know that they were leaving the counter? I get that people deserve a break, but maybe ask your friends to come back when you don't have a line twisting and turning through the eating area? Oh TDM how I've missed you so. The two locations in my town went belly up, so I was very excited today to see one right off the freeway in Ellensburg! I ordered my favorite, the fish burrito with whole beans and all the fixin's (plus healthy doses of both their medium and hot sauces). Got it to go and it lasted me all the way west to North Bend! The kids got burritos too, add in a couple sides of chips and the total was still only about $20. So much better than fast food. The service was super friendly too. If Rubios and Chipotle had a baby that was missing a couple of chromosomes you'd get Tacos Del Mar. Maybe I'm spoiled from the plentiful good Mexican food in San Diego, but TDM left me wishing I had just driven through Dairy Queen for a burger. I ordered a fish burrito and before I could tell the guy I didn't want beans or rice they were in the tortilla. I added cabbage, pico, cheese, white sauce, cilantro and hot sauce. The rice was undercooked and left in a heat tray until it was returned to the dry texture of raw rice. The beans, white sauce, and hot sauce were okay. The pico was not made from fresh ingredients. The worst part was the fish. When ordering fish in PNW you expect good quality fish. Unfortunately this fish got the same undercooked/heated tray treatment and the breading was tough and chewy. The burrito was wrapped too short and fat and was difficult to manage. It fell apart half way through and the tortilla was a mushy mess from the very wet pinto beans. The 2 stars are for the friendly service. 1 star because the food was edible if not good and 1 star from the cashier who was very friendly and provided great service. She was happy to be at work unlike the guy who put together my bowl who responded with "well I'm working" when I asked how he was. Maybe he was the one who made the food. read more

The owner here used to be so nice. Not sure if he is just tired of dealing with the public, having a hard time finding good help or going through personal issues but the last few times we have noticed he's just not the same as he was in the past. He was always friendly, smiley and would go the extra mile for his customers. Maybe people just wore him down. It's a sad thing because this was always our go to stop and we told everyone we knew it was the only TDM we still visited. Our last trip through was a slow Tuesday and the bathroom was dirtier that usual and employees were standing on their phones right behind the register. Owner wasn't far away so must be OK with this. Over all we decided we will give one more try and probably won't make this our stop anymore. I didn't know Taco Del Mar was like Subway. Anyway, I stepped in because it was right in front of the Red Lion where I was staying. Turns out my burrito was cheaper because I don't really eat meat anymore. Even without meat, it was a big, generous burrito and very delicious. Really not a lot of choices here in Ellensburg so we stopped in here for a quick snack. I really like the décor. Picture of surfer dudes right across the wall. Tiki roof over one large table. I wished that they had beef pieces. All they have are either ground or shredded beef. Burrito was OK but a little bland. Ingredients were fresh. Bathroom: Eek: water all over the floor with bits of bath tissue. Thankfully I did not find any unwanted ingredients, but it does make me question when their bathroom is unattended. read more

To people who live in Spokane or Seattle, Ellensburg is great for two things: 1) Gassing Up; 2) Getting lunch. I always do both on my way through town. And I usually do one of them at Taco del Mar (I'll let you guess which one). I've probably eaten at this particular joint a dozen times and I enjoy it each and every time. This is another frequently visited business on the Road to Pullman. Somehow, unlike at the Arby's down the road, we always *just* manage to beat the mealtime rush. Fish tacos are my favorite--and on Fridays right now they have a deal for 2 fish tacos for $3.99. Not too shabby.
