Portions were all small, the ingredients/descriptions were different from the menu. Tasteless. Money wasted. It wasn't too bad when I ate lunch there a few months ago. Well we finally made it down to Taco Dia after seeing it all over social media. Was so worth it! We arrived to a great hip atmosphere in a well fit out building. It was busy for a Sunday afternoon at 3:00. The hostess greeted us as we walked in and we chose to sit at a very large, well appointed bar. There was plenty of restaurant seating as well as patio seating, but the rain looked as though it was coming in so we opted for bar seating. We were quickly welcomed by Melissa our server/bartender and she brought menus and water and also a great vibe and attitude to get us started. The menu was thoughtfully planned out, not so extensive that one would get lost trying to choose. They offered on the menu, To Share, salads, sides, tacos and bowls. Plenty to choose from but not overwhelming. The back of the menu was drinks, obviously tequila and cervesa but also non alcoholic, cocktails and wine. Our drinks were served to us and nachos with salsa were put at our spot as well. We started with nachos (no protein) and they came out right away. Just as we started to eat the nachos Chef and owner Forest came out to say hi, introduce himself and tell us he was bringing us an addition to our nachos. Out came a bowl of guacamole garnished with radish, green peppers and cilantro. Totally made the nachos! Then a bowl of esquites, street corn, ceso and chili mayo. This stuff was to die for. We had a short convo as they were busy and he thanked us and said goodbye. I went for the crispy chicken el dragon bowl and my wife opted for tacos two ways, one El Americana and one Chicken Tinga. We were so excited to hear the owners of Bailey's Backyard take on a new eclectic adventure and sadly, we were not impressed! First off, the place is nicely setup but the tables are way too close to one another and it is very loud. Service is a tad slow and the cadence was not our speed but wait staff is really nice. As for menu-it is a la carte! Tacos are indeed fresh and use great ingredients but for us, lacked flavor and honestly, hat does one do, order 8 tacos to spend $40 - $50 for just one person, and sides are extra and rice and beans are nothing to talk about! Guacamole was good (and portion was iota) but they were a bit chintzy on the chips. I have had this place under my radar for quite some time given all the hype, but the hype goes to BB's in ridgefield and not TDs in newtown...again, a pure example of how people settle and accustomed to paying top dollar for mediocrity. Fantastic time where a light and airy atmosphere greets you with along with a smile and wonderful service. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately a couple of cool drinks. The Lively atmosphere is the perfect backdrop for an excellent menu loaded with interesting choices.The shrimp ceviche was perfect and fresh along with the perfectly prepared tacos. I had been here previously several times but never by myself. I sat at the bar and had to ask for a drink and a cup of water. A waiter brought over a menu and the bartender eventually brought over my drink but never my water. I sat there and no one ever came over to get my order. I sat there while others around me were getting drinks, appetizers, meals and desserts around me, and their check, all the while no one ever asked me if I would like to place an order or another drink. No one ever came over to check in on me. Highly disappointed as I was ignored. I don't know if it was my age or my looks, but you were not busy and this is how I was treated. My wife and I were very excited to try this new taco restaurant in town. There are not a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area and the hype around this restaurant was very real. There have been a few restaurants that have come and gone in this particular location, but we had high hopes because the owners own another popular restaurant in a neighboring town. The ambience was very nice and the staff was equally pleasant. The menu prices were a bit scary right off the bat with a can of soda being four dollars and the tacos being $5.50. My family and I ordered the chips and guacamole to go along with the free chips and salsa. The chips and guacamole was $9 and was missing a lot of flavor. I did not taste any lime or citrus, no onions or tomatoes, but it did have some diced up jalapeño scattered on top. It was very lackluster for the price point. We ordered a couple of different tacos the Americana, which is a crunchy shell taco with ground beef, cheese, pico, and a crema. The tacos are $5.50 each and extremely small. The Americana taco lacked a lot of flavor and was just not worth it for the price. The beef was cold and under seasoned unfortunately. We also tried the red Carnitas taco and the pork belly Al Pastore tacos. The Carnitas had a lot of flavor, but the corn tortilla was very soggy and did not taste homemade to me.. The Pastor was not as flavorful and did not have much filling. Over all the prices for the tacos just didn't align with the portions and flavors. I hope they adjust their price points and work on the recipes a bit more because I do feel this restaurant has the potential to be great. I do understand that we are in Fairfield county and restaurants and food is very expensive these days, But I think for the portion sizes and the taste it really needed to be and out of the park home run. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch and was very impressed. We were greeted and took a seat at the bar and were treated very well. We ordered a few tacos, an El Americano and a Camarones and both were delicious. We split a Grilled Shrimp Quesadilla and it also was outstanding. What caught our attention was how fresh all the ingredients were, even the rice and beans which is sometimes just slopped on a plate to fill it up were great. All the staff were very friendly and treated us well and the overall atmosphere of the whole restaurant was open and welcoming. Service can be slow and they need to hire someone other than young inexperienced kids. Especially upfront as a manager. Need someone who will represent their business and be the face of the restaurant. These young girls can't manage reservations and high demand coming in. I have no patience for that. food is good but I will eat elsewhere until they figure this out. Also this town won't tolerate not being able to make a reservation and just being told to wait 40 minutes to get a table. Happy hour is only available at the bar and isn't a menu, but rather a card with random discounts. We forwent happy hour entirely since it didn't seem worth it. Margaritas were $15 a pop. Sizes were fairly small and the taste wasn't anything to write home about (I got the "Firebreather" and was expecting some heat; instead it came off watery). The tacos were very good. The crispy fish taco was especially good. For $5.50 it wasn't terrible and I might try it again, but I'm not sure the tacos alone are reason to come back. The food varied from good to mediocre. Service was slow. It took almost 3 hrs for our meal. We had a large group of 10 (3 families) and were told we couldn't split the bill, which was inconvenient. While the prices were high, there were always add ons, like if you wanted protein in your burrito, which made the prices really high. It was very loud and hard to have conversation. The tiny tacos are almost 5 bucks each which is the most expensive I have ever seen. They were just ok. They should bundle them at a better value and serve an included side.
