Food used to be EPIC before the pandemic but it's iffy now, which hurts me to say. Quality assurance isn't what it used to be and if you order in the 7:00 pm hour, you may be disappointed and have to return your food for a do-over the following day. The burritos and sopes can be authentically delicious when made right. Pastor is extremely fatty and a disappointing option but the carnitas are tasty. Service is still top notch, friendly and appreciative. Restaurant is always clean with ample seating. Parking lot shared with other merchants but a spot is always available. Ever since I moved from San Diego a few months ago I have longed for a good California Burrito. I debated on if I should share this review since SD is debatably the best place in America for you to get Mexican food so we obviously have high standards, but ultimately decided to because as I waited for our food, two others waiting as well said they came from SD too, and thought this place was "as good as you can get for here (in the DMV)". The place seems authentic and the decor of the restaurant reflects that. It's a bit dark but I liked being able to watch them cook the food, and to know that what I'm getting is fresh. Now for the *meat* of the review: upon first bite, I was so happy to taste the freshness of the cilantro, guacamole, and salsa verde, but by the time I got to the steak, it tasted a little off? It may be in the quality of the steak - I really don't know. To add - there wasn't much, and it wasn't evenly spread through the burrito so while one side felt like it got a lot of love, the other was just vegetables and onions, with a little bit of the fries. Came across this place as I was driving down Richmond highway. I'm a sucker for a good taco spot. They have a bunch of other items aside from tacos, but for a first time visit, I went with the tacos. Total order was $16. Tacos were $3 a piece and rice and beans I believe were around $3. Not bad in my opinion. Food was done pretty quickly. Waited for less than 10 mins. Got home and was excited to dig in. I was not mad at all at the quality and authenticity of the food. The chorizo was my favorite followed by the carne asada. Both were well seasoned without being overly salty. The chorizo as expected was greasy. I was ok with that! The carne, which can sometimes be tough was nice and tender. The carnitas was my least favorite and will likely stay away from that one next time. Meat was dry and not very enjoyable. The tacos come with radishes, carrots, as well as one green and red sauce. I asked for a second red sauce, since 2 is just never enough. The red was nice and spicy, green was more of a mild sauce. Rice and beans were a great addition. I really loved this place the first time I visited. Unfortunately the second time was not good. I ordered the quesadilla de birria and the torta cubana. The quesadilla had a yellow cheese in it; I think some sort of cheddar. Traditionally a quesadilla should use a queso Oaxaca. The torta cubana did not have a milanesa or jalapeño at all. My partner ordered the polzole which seems to have made him a bit ill through the evening. Ordered takeout for the first time after driving by many times. I was in the mood for tacos and was not disappointed. I got the tacos dorados, which were perfectly crispy and not too heavy on toppings. My husband got a few tacos regulares with some different meats and loved them. Upon entering I was greeted and the lady explained to me that you order your food first then sit down, then the food will be brought to your table. Its a traditional dish made with pork and seasoned with chili peppers which gives it that red soup base. The pork was nice and tender and the soup was good. I just wish I had some avocados inside or on the side for the soup. Desayunos Mexicano- This is a breakfast platter that has 2 eggs, re-fried bean, Mexican rice and chilaquiles. We tried Taco Jalisco a while ago and absolutely loved it, tried their catering at a friend's event (pre-pandemic) and it was fantastic, and had it again today and it was just as good as I remembered it to be. Husband is from southern CA so we have tried a lot of great tacos and burritos. We haven't been able to find a lot of similar places in the NOVA area, but Taco Jalisco is definitely the closest to what we crave from CA. Everything is always fresh and flavorful. We previously tried their other meats like lengua and have loved it! The tacos have a good portion of meat in them but need a little sauce cause it can get dry with multiple big bites (may or may not be speaking from personal experience). It's been so difficult to find one in the area, but Taco Jalisco makes them just right. The fries are also a delicious splurge. Got a chance to visit and try out their tacos! My boyfriend and I got to try their carne asada fries and we each got three tacos: beef, pork, and chicken. We must say, the carne asada fries were delicious and extremely filling!! The carne asada taco was missing seasoning but the meat was not bad but also not good . Recommendation for the staff is to marinate the steak. I'm from Jalisco we do orange lime onions and a beer to soften the meat. Carnitas we're a little to dry. Now the green salsa could be better less watery a good salsa does not have to be spicy. It's simple water green tomatoes garlic and cilantro boom and jalapeños for some heat. Even better if their charred.The pickled jalapeños were good as well. Hopefully they can improve their recipes. If you have a Taco Bell relationship with Mexican food, you need to start over and the best place to do that is Taco Jalisco. If you weren't craving tacos before you will now because this Mexican joint is so delicious I couldn't stop thinking about it the day after. There aren't many options to get authentic tacos in this area, but Taco Jalisco is doing it right! I've been to many LA and San Diego taco places (Tacos El Gordo, Cotixan, Vallartas, Lolitas, King Tacos, Taco trucks with names I can't pronounce, etc.) and this place brings me back to the west coast with how they're preparing their food. Pros: First off, their tacos come in 2 different styles: taco especial or regular. Personally I like the regular tacos because you can taste the flavor and quality of the meat without having too much of the other stuff, but the especial is delicious for it's guac and cheese concoction. My favorites were the lengua (beef tongue) and tripa (tripe) because of the way they prepared it. The meat was moist and juicy with a lot of flavor and the tripe wasn't overly fried. Let me tell you, the meat portions here are unreal! Other places will charge around $3/taco and give you barely any meat so all you're tasting is tortilla, but here they don't hold back with how much meat they're giving you. Moving onto the torta, the torta regular was filled with succulent meat, refried beans, with a good balance of lettuce and tomatoes to cut through the creamy texture. The bread was soft even the day after I took it home, which is a big deal for any leftovers. The California burrito... my goodness! What stood out was their tortilla which was chewy and didn't fall apart like most places. Make sure to add some hot sauce it's so worth the heat. If you haven't tried carne asada fries you have to order it here! The fries were extra crispy so it wasn't soggy even towards the end of your meal and their steak pieces were perfectly balanced with guac, cheese, sourcream and pico. YUM!! Service: The cooks in the back always give you a smile, the owner is friendly and actually cares about the restaurant because he is nonstop working. Food came out fast so you can come here if you're hangry. Overall, great service! Price: Tacos range from $2.79-$2.99, but they have specials on Tuesdays for $2 tacos and $5 burritos (check their instagram taco_jalisco for deals). Everything else on the menu is less than $10. I would say that this place is worth every penny because of how much food they give you. It's the best deal you can get in the dmv. Like I said, just go! Hidden gem alert! This place is your new favorite authentic Mexican restaurant. Great variety on the menu, and honestly goes way beyond a great taco. I've tried a handful of their tacos and I love that they have some adventurous offerings. The lengua (beef tongue) has a melt in your mouth texture with great flavor, and it was my first time having beef cheek meat which was shredded also delicious. But by far, my favorite was actually the Tripe (beef intestine) that isn't rubbery but in fact crunchy and so yummy! Also got to try their Tortas Cubana and it was surprisingly good - I've never been a huge fan of sandwiches but my goodness, the bread on this thing was amazing. The portion was huge also, I can definitely gobble up half for lunch and save the other half for later. And of course, no meal is complete for me without some sort of potato... and the carne asada fries seriously hit the spot.
