I did NOT like Mexican food until I ate here. I'm 37, for 36 years I pretty much hated tacos, burritos etc. I have the most picky annoying order EVER. Not only did they do it perfectly, but they did it time and time and time again. They are super amazing! I think I have a modification to almost every menu item, (not because there is anything wrong with their amazing recipes, but because I'm a 12-year child when it comes to food). Because they have embraced that and are always so welcoming to my insane order, I think when I first moved to Saint Charles, I had Taco Madre almost every single day for 4-5 months straight trying all the different items (with my mods) and it was ALL so delicious. Also, I'm that crazy lady that requests like 20 limes and they actually do it!! (I usually send my husband thou but I feel like an insane person with my order, haha! Some of the best tacos I've had anytime in recent memory completely fresh. I had the chicken, the pork and the shrimp tacos.

They have good-sized space, but a big group might have found it difficult to sit together. So I would call before if u r in that situation. Service is fast and good. There beans are vegetarian, but rice is not. I'm always bummed by that. There are good varieties of tacos and sauces. I have also tried their tostada, which is good. They have mushroom dishes, which is plus compared to other place around. I do go around the place often, so I will recommend it to anyone. read more

Food is always wonderful! Came in for lunch today and decided to hop over to the gaming side while I waited for my food. The last time I came in it was uncomfortably warm, I just thought they forgot to lower the heat. Today was a beautiful day, upwards of 50°. I roasted! It was unbearable. The lady at the counter assured me they were in the bag. Taco Madre is a stripmall Mexican spot that has a few interesting labeled vegan options. It's cool that a place like this can exist in the suburbs. We got the el guac and chips ($5) and liked the consistency of it, but it had a strange flavor; it also stayed bright green for days in my fridge, which gives me pause about what else is in it. The vegan soy chorizo taco ($2.79 for one) is okay, but the chorizo has a tomato-y flavor that didn't impress me all that much. I hate to say it, but the sofritas as Chipotle is more flavorful. The grilled vegetable taco ($2.79) was fine but doesn't travel well. All told, I think Taco Madre has potential and I'd love it if they added a seitan taco option or maybe a tofu one. read more

Pleasantly surprised with the outstanding food at this modern Mexican place. Ordered a Mahi taco, a side of elote corn, and an order of churros to go. The food was served with some complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were run of the mill mass produced processed tortilla chips, but the salsa was heavenly. I ended up pouring the salsa over the elote which was fantastic! The taco was perfectly prepared and delicious. I am way into Taco Madre. I have been to the Geneva and St. Charles locations. I like that the St. Charles location feels really open and had the salsa bar. The Geneva location brings you the salsas, but there is something really fun about a salsa bar. I like the avocado and jalapeno salsas best. The chips you get when you dine in are great, and perfect for trying all the salsas. I have only ordered tacos. Typically I am getting tacos off the specialty menu. Be warned that if you order the specialty tacos for your two or three tacos plate, there is an upcharge per taco. I would recommend the chilis rellenos taco and the chicken tinga tacos. I thought the flavors were really delicious. During my first trip, I was with a group of five, people ordered tacos, burritos and the chilaquiles. Not one of us had anything bad to say, we all loved all that we chose and enjoyed passing around the salsas. I will go back, over and over. It's quick, tasty and a cool environment. read more

It takes a lot to impress me dining out, but this gem of a restaurant is now my #1 for the best tacos of all time. We started ordering regular steak and pastor tacos that were excellent. Even though we were full, we went back up ordered three of their specialty tacos (Tinga, Aztec and Mayan). I don't even have the words for how great and flavorful these were. I love salsa on my tacos, but it would have been a sin to add anything to these beauties! I will never be able to visit St Charles again without visiting Taco Madre! This is a very cute little Mexican restaurant. Recently, I have been hearing a lot about this restaurant! I was really hoping for more of Mexican restaurant feeling. While the decor was really nice, it was really small and felt more like a fast food chain restaurant. I think it is a chain restaurant though so this is not necessarily a bad thing. That being said, the food was very good. I had a veggie burrito. The portion size was perfect. It did not make me feel overly full or leave me still hungry. We had chips and guacamole with our meal too. Their guac was really great. I would probably go back here just for the guacamole alone. Their chips also have delicious seasoning on them. It really adds a lot to the whole meal. The staff working here were really great. They answered any questions and were very friendly. They all had happy dispositions and seemed to enjoy working here.
