We stopped in Quartzsite for gas on our way to Joshua Tree, and asked where we could have lunch. We were directed to this as the only restaurant in town. My husband practically jumped when the first thing we saw was a giant cardboard cutout of Vicente Fernandez, it was lifelike and kinda scary lol. It had a diner feel, but many times, those are the best places. It wasn't one of those best places unfortunately. My husband's taco had a very thin breakable shell, and was over fried. The ingredients weren't fresh, and who puts ranch dressing on a taco salad? The beans in my chicken burrito were dry, but the chicken was moist and tasty. Food was OK (nothing special), but the service was WEIRD! You stand in line to order at the counter, then find a table on your own. It was pretty crowded the night I ate there, so maybe that's why the tables weren't bussed or cleaned between patrons. We just kinda shoved the old junk to the side and sat down. We had a very late, overdue, lunch here and the food was flavorful and portions generous. No chicken available for salad, so I had beef. The soccer matches were playing on the TV, but the volume was not overwhelming. There are booths, but the seat where you put your "seat", while nicely padded, was too narrow for my avoirdupois. I noticed that another customer had this problem, too, but moved, before ordering, to the tables nearby. Smart, as the chairs were generous and padded--like what I call waiting room chairs. So, if you eat here, take the table and chairs right off the bat, unless your behind parts are very slender. The women's bathroom was adequate, though stuffy. The Carnitas Taco and the Carne Asada Taco, both of which are quite tasty, and very fresh, but are rather small considering each is priced at $2.99, and come a la carte. The shredded beef tacos have extra soft, juicy meat. The hard taco shells appear packaged, not fresh made. Their "Caution" salsa is not that hot, probably medium for most hot food lovers. I was very disappointed. This I is the poorest meXican restaurant that I have eaten at. Beef taco tasted closer to roast beef and gravy verses a beef taco with a little lettuce no tomato or cheese. I judge a Mexican restaurant by their chili rellenos. Taco Mio makes good ones. My wife couldn't finish one of her tacos so I got to sample that as well. They brought out two bottles of hot sauce. One mild and one VERY HOT. I'm a pepper head so I really enjoyed the hot. I enjoyed it so much I asked if they would sell me a bottle. Turns out that this was not a strange request. They had bottles of it ready to go. If you're a pepper head go here just for the sauce. They make really potent Margaritas too. read more

Quartzsite is not a hotspot for culinary creativity. In fact, finding something other than fast food is a bonus, and finding something that is good is a great night. Taco Mio is good. This is our second January camping in the desert outside of Quartzsite. We like to go out once a week or so and let someone else do the cooking and dishes. The options are slim here, but Taco Mio is a regular stop during our stay. The servers always seem a little behind the gun (gets busy here during the winter), but have always eeked out a smile. Food service is surprisingly fast, and the food has always been fine. Our last trip in to Taco Mio had me trying the Chili Verde Burrito, after many suggestions to do so. That is not my usual gig in Mexican food places. I typically order a meat dish to throw inside warm tortillas - arrachera, carnitas, etc. The chili verde was well done, and the portion made my large belly happy. Along with a good selection of beer (good - as in XX, Pacifico, etc), they serve a couple different cocktails - margarita and screwdrivers. Not sure if they will bend beyond those (tequila shots or a martini maybe??), but a Pacifico is usually fine with me. I have had tacos, as well as some of their specials in the past, and have not walked away dissatisfied. If you are hanging out in Quartzsite for a while and get tired of cooking, Taco Mio won't do you wrong. If you are a discriminating food critic that demands the best of everything, Phoenix is only about 2 hours away. read more

This is just a little place off of 95 on Main St. in desert town of Quartzsite, so I was not expecting much. They surprised me, though! I had two delicious fish tacos. My girlfriend had the Chile relleno and cheese enchilada combo plate with beans and rice. The relleno was lightly breaded so it had lots of Chile and very good flavor. Refried beans did not have too much cheese like some places. Overall it was a tasty surprise. The servers were attentive and friendly and the local patrons were also very hospitable. Great little place in town to stop by if you don't want the regular fast food chain. They will make it just how you like it and to-go. I'm from Texas so I have a certain expectation when I order Mexican food. While the food was good it just lacked the spiciness and flavor that I look for in my food. I ordered the Carna Asada plate when it came it was a large piece of slightly tough meat. It was hard to cut with a knife to make tacos out of it. Tried this place for lunch. Seemed clean and food looked good. I ordered grande taco salad with beef and my husband had taco dinner. Portions were a little small and my salad had very little lettuce. Taco shell was greasy and no flavor. Taco plate was good but still hungry. Food seems really authentic, beef was very flavorful and tasty, guacamole was a little waxy. Coca Cola was delicious.
