Water was really good. Food is definitely fresh but I will not be getting the beef nachos again due to it barely having meat on it. Fish taco was good,, rice was good. A bit too pricey for their drinks to not be good. I'm a drinker before I'm an eater. This taco joint is legit. The corn tortillas are bigger so you get a bigger taco stuffed to the brim with deliciousness. I got the chicken elite and the garlic shrimp. The chicken elote was definitely the star here. I highly recommend getting a side of guacamole as well. Definitely will return next time we are in Dallas. read more

This is a seriously yummy taco place! They have a large variety of tacos, including vegetarian style tacos. Their shrimp taco is amazing! If you get the two plate taco meal, you will be stuffed! They serve chips and salsa to your table after you have ordered and sat down, which I did not expect because you order soon as you walk in the door. Oh! I was working in the area and ran across this place. Interior is simple and clean. I ordered the Cubano torta which I have ordered at other places before. This is their take on a Cuban sandwich. Once I realized that, the mustard made more sense. It was a descents sandwich and it came with chips and a side of salsa. I also tried the Cabo fish taco. Pretty good take on the socal original. The batter was a bit heavy but a good piece of cod was used. I may opt to try a different place next time but this place is not too bad. read more

This place has fantastic food and generous portions. It is Mexican, with a more authentic bent, but WOW is it tasty. The have a large menu that has something for everyone. And everything I've had there is good - the tacos of course, but even the cilantro rice, beans, chips and salsa are all good too. I've tried a number of items from the menu, and have gotten to the point that I think I could randomly select almost anything, and I would be very pleased. I have to given a specific mention about the vegan Ranchero tacos and the Rico Ocho tacos - they are AMAZING. And if you are vegan they have more tacos to choose from. I could go on and on - but one thing I'll say during COVID: we have some high-risk conditions in our household, so we are very careful about where we go and what we do. We have only occasionally picked up fast food here and there for a meal - but Taco Ocho is the ONLY restaurant we've regularly picked up from during COVID. It's just amazing. read more

The first thing that stands out here is how much meat they stack on these tortillas. I felt like I received half a pound of meat for each taco. But unfortunately there's no flavor or spice that stands out. It just tastes like Im eating braised meat with faded flavors in the background. This recently opened up nearby and today we went to check it out. It is a fast casual concept restaurant with pretty cool decor. In addition to tables, they have a long bar for communal seating. It has a slightly industrial, modern feel. The a la carte tacos are $3.50 each or you can get a plate with rice and refried beans. We chose the former and I had the smoked chicken elote and the Cabo fish tacos and my boyfriend had the Latin Love and the ancho garlic shrimp. They were quite good. The smoked chicken is juicy with a little kick from the chipotle and the Cabo (which I had fried) was a generous portion of fish with jicama slaw and a chipotle cream sauce. I had a bite of the Latin Love (shredded beef, refried black beans, fried plantains, cotija cheese and salsa verde) and that was really tasty as well, I'm going to order that next time. In terms of size, the tacos are most similar to Fuzzy's (although I think they taste much better than Fuzzy's). They are not your small traditional Mexican tacos so keep that in mind. The food is also really fresh and made to order. We also had the guacamole and chips for $2.95. While the price is in line for an order of this size of fresh guacamole, it's small, only enough for two or one hungry person. I hope they add a large size to the menu because I definitely wanted more. You can tell they made it fresh and it is chunky the way I like it with tomato and onion and a little zest of lemon. They also have tortas and tostadas and if you are a vegetarian, you will want to check out the tostadas because all eight are meat-less. My only disappointment is they don't have any aguas frescas or Mexican sodas, just regular fountain drinks. But that is a small complaint. I am really happy to have them in the neighborhood and I look forward to exploring more of the menu. 6/4/11 Update: Went for lunch to try the tostadas. I think I might like them more than the tacos! When I first saw the list of their tostadas, I was disappointed they were all vegetarian. I mean, it's great to have some vegetarian offerings but no shredded chicken (my favorite)? I was bummed. But still, they're tostadas and for some reason, they are not on many menus. For $6.95, you get to choose three of the eight offerings. I had: --Americana with shredded lettuce, refried black beans, pico, roasted corn, cotija cheese and chipotle ranch --Latina with grilled zucchini, roasted poblanos, corn, cotija and crema agria --Azteca with refried black beans, lettuce, queso fresco, guacamole and cilantro crema They were all were so delicious and tasty with lots of flavor! Holy Taco Dance! This place knows their tacos. Not to mention, they epitomize the word, generous. Each soft taco overflowing with the most delicious ingredients, yet they aren't overwhelming like some corporate burrito (we won't name names) joints that stuff their burrito to the max and to the point of uncomfortable fullness. Taco Ocho is fresh and full of fantastic ingredients. Mani, the owner, explained to me how every taco is not only made to order but every ingredient is organic and distinctively selected for their restaurant. I could certainly discriminate the difference in each bite until I had none left! The Cabo Fish tacos are probably the best, however their tortas will rock your world, or just lunch hour, too! They also have a green chile pork taco that was right up there with Cabo Fish. As a sucker for sauces, they offer a myriad of sauces to brighten your taco, as well. The environment is laid-back and incredibly friendly. It's definitely a lunch friendly place, but I believe stay open into the night as well. The breezy, bright dining area is open and conducive to great flow that doesn't discourage a perfect set-up for eating. They have a an exciting mural on their main wall that, alone, will make for an interesting visit. After writing this review, I am getting another itch for some Taco Ocho. read more

The taco landscape is starting to get really crowded around these parts but I was happy to see Taco Ocho open because of its location midway between my work and home. I have been a few times now and my assessment of what it has to offer in comparison to its competitors is that it is much like its location, somewhere in the middle. I like that their selections of tacos try and elevate the offering above the norms with some unique flavors but most contained something like jicama slaw or jalapeno aioli which didn't compute right in the conversation between my brain and mouth. Secondly, I felt like the prices were a bit steep. When Torchy's charges $3.50 for a taco, it gives you a meal crammed into a corn tortilla. Ocho did have larger than the standard but still fell a little short. The torta I've had twice, the Cubano is excellent, especially the inclusion of chorizo, but is a tad disappointing at just under $8. Ocho, I think that you could really have something special here if you could let us design our own tacos with the ingredients you offer. Keep the menu as a suggestion but let us combine those yummy flavors to fit our taste buds. Also, you have fried plaintains on one of your tacos, so why not offer them as a side?. When you asked me if I wanted plaintain chips with my torta, I assumed they were ones that you made, no some flavorless crap out of a bag. To be fair, this place is brand new so I am hoping that they will grow and I will continue to check in from time to time to make sure that happens. read more

I'll be honest, I was a bit surprised by how good this place was. This was a random Yelp pick for us as we drove down 75 -- thanks Yelpers for not steering us wrong! The menu is more creative than many, and I loved seeing a variety of tostadas on their menu. One thing I will say is that it was difficult to tell from their menu whether or not you could order items a-la-carte or if you could only order the combos presented on the menus themselves. I initially didn't want the rice and beans, but after trying them, I would get them again. It was really nice that they were a normal portion size and not spread over half a platter. I tried the Yucatan tostada and it was delicious. The jalapeno pork taco was also really tasty. I wouldn't say that it was "outstanding" but it was fresh, tasty, and a more creative take on tacos/Mexican food, and that makes me pretty stinkin' happy. Employees were very friendly and you can see into the kitchen as they make your food, which is always nice. We will definitely be back to sample more items the next time we are in Richardson or Plano. read more

The meat melts in your mouth; the pork had just the right amount of jalapeno kick and the beef was very flavorful. My family and I are on a quest for the best tacos in Dallas. We are teaching our kids the importance of exploring (not only epicuriously but seeing what life has to offer). So far we have been to the likes of Fuzzy's, Torchy's, and Rusty. The family seem to be divided on the best tacos. This all changed when we drove a little further north outside of the comfort zone of Dallas. The tacos at Taco Ocho was the most flavorful we have found on our search. We all instantly agreed that we have found the best tacos in the Metroplex. Our family was divided no more. The tacos were perfectly seasoned and not overdone, drizzled with sauces for both the milder or heat-seeking palette, and not overloaded with lettuce or other garnish. After our most amazing meal we met the owner who greated us at our table. He explained that he used to manage hundreds of fast-food taco places for a fortune 100 company. He told us how he created Taco Ocho because he no longer wanted to be a part of shoveling junk down the throats of millions of Americans. He said that every ingredient is fresh and they make everything on site; nothing comes out of a can or is pre-packaged. His passion and desire for serving up fresh, wholesome, tasty tacos was received loud and clear. We will definitely be returning. read more

Melt in your mouth beef brisket! I came here with my dad for an early lunch on a Saturday. It was our first time here so I went with a safe bet and got the tacos elote I think. They were extremely fresh with an amazing after taste of cilantro. My dads were by far the best though. He had some marinated beef brisket tacos. WOWOWOWOW does that say it? Juicy and enough spice to be tasty not just heat. The black beans that came with were wonderful and creamy. The tacos here are really great. Now that we got that out of the way.... Upon entering Taco Ocho you're greeted by a menu that's hung a little too far in the back and way too high. It looks as if it was designed by an autistic 10 year old who discovered crayons for the first time. After recovering from a small epileptic seizure from all the bright colors and random designs, I attempted to order and was just mostly confused. No idea what things cost or what combos they have or whatever. I saw "jalapeño pork" and just went with that because I was mostly terrified to look at the menu any longer. Anyway. Food was amazing. The tacos are not Torchy's, they're not street mexican tacos, and they're also not the faux-mex from Fuzzy's, instead they're latin influenced combinations full of flavor. The 2 taco plate is a great deal considering it comes with rice, beans, and chips and salsa. Latin love, ancho garlic shrimp and cabo fish are some of my favorites but you can't go wrong with anything here, I've never been disappointed. The jalapeño pork is probably the juiciest and most tender taco you'll have in a while. For me this place is a bit better than Torchy's, a bit below Velvet, and whole lot better than Rusty and Fuzzy's. read more

A friend and I ate here for lunch. I had a fish taco and beef colorado taco. The fish taco was excellent! One of the better fish tacos I have eaten. the beef taco was just average. The beef taco needed a little more chili sauce. My friend had the tostadas. He thought they were good. Neither one of us cared for the rice. The beans and salsa were ok. The service was fast and restaurant was clean. Although it was busy, the employees kept the table clean. No problems getting a seat. I think the best thing was that food was fresh and not greasy. I've tried every taco except the fish, which I have to have a particular craving for, but over all my favorite is the Jalapeno Pork and the Beef Colorado. Fresh the flavor every day. I hate writing reviews like this...on paper, this place is awesome. In real life, meh... First the great things about this place. It's clean, the portions are generous, they have Sonic ice, and the Staff is very nice. So what's wrong? Nothing...the food is good. It's cooked well, but the taste; well it doesn't make you want to try other things on the menu. I only had the two taco plate, but it was very hard to tell which taco was which...well one was pork, and the other was beef, but they both pretty much tasted the same. The black beans are the most tasteless black beans EVER. The rice was good. The variety of tacos, tostadas, and tortas reflect South and Central America as well as Spain, you just pick the style you want.
