We did a search for mimosas on Yelp one Saturday morning. Both of us were really wanting Mexican food, and we saw this place had good reviews. Decided this would be the spot to check out. When we arrived, we saw that they serve mimosas (there was a sign at the doorway when you walk up). We went inside to order. I ordered a breakfast burrito without pico de gallo. We also ordered mimosas. When we ordered them, the gentleman behind the counter looked at us like we were ordering something they don't have. Oh wait, they didn't have them. My girlfriend tried explaining that they advertise having mimosas. The gentleman stated that they were out of champagne. It was close to when they open, so this seems like a flaw on their part. He offered us another beverage. They have sodas and beers. We don't drink either of those, so we passed. Anyway, on to the food. My burrito was super boring. Even with pico de gallo, I'm sure it would have still been boring. It was dry. It was lacking bacon (only a few small crumbles within it). It was in desperate need of salt. I rarely put salt on my food, but this needed it. It's a nice enough place. Maybe I'll come back one day for brunch and order something different... WOW We loved this place. The salsa was so tasty. Smoky and just the right amount of heat. Don't ever change it. I cant stand the burn your tongue off salsa. The only thing that bugged my was the tiny salsa ramekin. Just a little bigger so I can get my chip in it for a good dip would be appreciated. We had the taco plates. I really love the fact that you get 2 tacos, huge portion of rice and beans plus chips and salsa all for $10. But I just wasn't a fan of my tacos. We wanted to check out this place as we read some good reviews. We came in around 4 and it was empty. We started off with the queso. The queso was so good and perfectly blended with spices. I ordered the Cabo Grilled Fish on a corn tortilla. The chipotle cream sauce complimented my taco. It was really good. My hubby ordered the Smoked Chicken Elote. The chicken was shredded and moist. It had a good flavor to it. We also tried the Jalapeno Pork and the Beef Colorado. Both meat were dry and felt like both tacos were lacking flavor even added the salsa to it. Just meh. Maybe the lunch menu is better. Two egg chorizo and bacon tacos with beans and potatoes. Sounds good! but bland. No salt on the table. I couldn't find any meat in the pile of mush, just a wad of scrambled eggs in a flour tortilla which I forgot I'm not supposed to eat. The beans and potatoes had no seasoning. There were some soggy chips poking out of the beans. However, waitress was nice and service quick. Love how these restaurants jacked the prices up with inflation but oops forgot to lower them now that eggs are back to original price. Another $13 overpriced breakfast. Maybe I just have high standards for cuisine. People need to learn to cook because anything out of my kitchen is way better than this. I for one will only eat out to socialize, but I'm sure there are enough clueless folks who will keep blowing their money on these so-called restaurants. When we walked in the atmosphere was inviting. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice contemporary decor. Excellent service. I asked for an additional condiment, no questions asked, no fee charged. Very accommodating. We ordered their carnitas, Poblano pork and fish Tacos. We ordered the plate which came with rice, beans, chips and salsa. Lots of food for the money. We came by here on a Saturday around 10:30 and were the only ones here. There is signage indicating they have mimosas and brunch, but they were "out of champagne" when we were there so can't speak to that (nor can I speak to why they can't go buy champagne or how any of their other alcoholic beverages are since I was not offered any.) Since that is one of the reasons we chose this spot over others, it really annoyed me. I got the Ocho Stack and enjoyed it. It's a little hard to eat and I was given just a fork (you definitely need a knife) but the flavors were very good. My egg was a little overcooked so the yoke wasn't very runny. It's served with plantains and some potato type dish. Plantains were nicely caramelized, but didn't really scream "breakfast" to me. The potato/onion/pepper dish was pretty ok...kind of odd. I never did figure out what it was. They only have those trendy, sugar cane sodas which I don't really enjoy and seems odd for a taco place. read more

This is our second evening trip to Taco Ocho. The shrimp tacos on corn tortillas brought us back. They were even better than we remembered. Fresh salsa, awesome flavors, and a cool vibe. Icing on the whole experience - our kids love the quesadillas! We will be back for sure! read more

They certainly have a more vegan/vegetarian friendly menu than Torchy's or Velvet Taco although I love those places when I'm on a normal diet. I'll have to come back for meat tacos. This place has lots of unique tacos. They're all plenty tasty, but none of them really wow. It's good enough to go to when I need a quick bite and it's close by, but I wouldn't travel out of my way for it. I like the brightly lit decor, and the service is good for a order a counter service restaurant. They do give you a miniscule amount of salsa for the chips you get. read more

My wife and I tried this place this past weekend. On the drive there, we wondered why it was called "Taco Ocho" and concluded that they must have 8 different types of tacos. When we arrived, we saw that they did indeed have 8 types of tacos on the menu, along with 8 different types of Tostada and 8 different types of Tortas. My wife got the Jalapeno Pork taco and a Azteca tostada. I debated between getting a taco or a torta -- ever since being introduced to tortas from an ex-colleague of mine (his wife used to make THE BEST homemade tortas, and he'd bring them to work for us) -- I've been on a quest to find a great restaurant-made torta (and been sorely disappointed at the places I had tried up until Taco Ocho). Ultimately, I opted to try their Tripleta torta (braised beef, pulled pork, shredded chicken and avocado with some jalapeno aioli on the wide on some Bolillo bread). The torta was actually quite tasty and the bread was soft and soaked in the flavors from the meats very nicely. I accidentally dumped he whole side of jalapeno aioli onto one half of the torta...and it was quite spicy! We also ordered a side of queso, which was "good', but not "great". We will not be ordering queso again on any return visits. We'd definitely come back and try some more here! read more

Holy brisket taco on the 4th of July! For some reason I wasn't expecting much. I ordered the brisket taco and my husband got the brisket taco. I can't describe because I've never tasted anything like it. The flavor was so unique and delicious that i was savoring every bite. The manager and staff were very nice. Grilled Fish Tacos are really good! The large pieces of grilled cod, jicama slaw, and creama are a nice bite with great fish flavor (not fishy) and just enough acidity to give it an extra punch of flavor. This is not your typical Mexican (Tex-Mex) restaurant, the flavors are a little different across the food and sides. They are lighter with more Central American flavors including a whiter rice and black beans instead of traditional refried beans and spiced rice. And don't forget about the Blanco Queso, the white creamy queso is a great change up. The restaurant is more of a casual community style, quick bite vs a sit down restaurant, but that's a good thing as long as you know it going in. It would be a 5 Star for me, but the chips were not as crisp as I like and their nachos missed the notch on flavor. They weren't bad, but the meat was not your standard picadillo (ground beef) and it didn't pair well with the chips and queso; plus, nachos need beans in my opinion. read more

Our family had a great meal here! The Stubborn sodas were a fun surprise (hello awesome cream soda). I had the battered fried fish taco & smokey chicken taco. The chips were a perfect texture and the salsa and side of quest were good. The beans and rice, while not bland, weren't overly exciting. The taco kids meal was a hit with one of my sons, but the quesadilla kids meal with the other was not. (His high brow cheese opinions prefer "orange" cheese over real yummy cheese.) About two months ago I went egg and seafood only. No red meat or chicken/pork. Since then it's been interesting because my usual go tos have always been beef and chicken. And then we end up at a Mexican place. Total brisket taco time. Or not. I walked in and was so excited to see that they had a vegetarian side to their menu. It was full of vegetable goodness and then on the other side they had a lot of seafood selections. I ended up going with the grilled fish tacos, which were amazing sauce. And then the shrimp tacos, which I thought were really sweet and not to my liking but my daughter who really likes the whole chocolate and Ancho flavor grabbed it and finished it. They have amazing salsa and chips and their drinks... yum! A definite winner! read more

This is a pretty cool spot to check out. I stumbled upon it on a hungry night and walked in for a to-go order. The ambience is very casual as it has the same type of ordering as torchy's and other taco places around Dallas. You order at the counter, get a number, and your food is delivered to you (same concept for to-go orders). The service is prompt and the food was pretty delicious. I had the Cubana torta a which was sadly a little dry but not a deal breaker. The torta comes with chips and salsa. When you order to-go, you get a little shafted on the salsa so make sure to ask for a few of them. However, the salsa itself has a lot of flavor and I was sad to get a small container of it as I ran out of salsa before I even made a dent on the chips. All in all, I would definitely come back as their food was good and the service was great! Definitely need to try the tacos everyone is talking about. read more

Found this place, on Yelp, while sitting in a Taco Cabana drive thru. A week later, we stopped here instead of cabana, and wow!, glad we made the slight detour. Got the classic potato and egg, and chorizo and egg tacos, and they are stuffed! You definitely get your money's worth, per taco. Eggs were good, not dried out or runny. The chorizo was mixed well with the eggs and not super greasy. I also got the Matador, eggs, brisket, and salsa verde. Gotta say, that was probably one of the best tacos I've had in years. This place has some of the best vegan tacos options I've ever found at a taco joint. Tons of healthy options here! We had one of each of the veggie tacos, which can be made both vegan and gluten-free easily. The tacos were so big, it was difficult to eat them all! We had a delcious guacamole taco, a zuchhini/corn taco, and one with plantains, black beans and slaw. None of these lacked any flavor, and the habanero salsa was delicious. Holy smokes. I don't post reviews often, but I had to call out the Cusco Torta. This was my first time here and the cashier recommended the Peruvian-style torta sandwich, the cusco. I asked for all three variants of salsa (regular, verde, and habanero-based). What struck me when the cashier brought me the torta (with chips) was the delicious smell. My previous experiences with the peruvian filling (stir-fried steak, onion, and thick potato fries, aka. lomo saltado) had been bland meals - this was something entirely different. This sandwich gave lomo saltado new life in my mind - and its placement between two lightly toasted slices of bread took it to a 10/10. Really, this experience rewarded me with the best torta I've tried. Hats off to the three cooks in the kitchen. I'll be back at this place very soon. read more

Yikes! So if you've never been to a taqueria and have a complete fear of anything foreign, this is the place for you and your grandparents. I went for the Cubana Torta with sweet potato fries: this small Subway-esque prepackaged deli meat lightly filled sandwich with chorizo and a small serving of fries shows up. It's not terrible as a sandwich if this was Subway, but it's not. Do yourself a favor: drive down the street and find a real taqueria and get a real Torta. read more

I finally tried this place out but it was kind of a let down, just okay. I got 1 Cabo Fish Taco (Fried) $4.00, 1 Beef Fajita Taco $3.50 both on flour tortillas and the Chips and Guacamole $4.99. Both tacos had a good taste but quite small for the price. Their salsa is meh, tasted like pure tomato paste which I was not a fan of. They give you a decent amount of guacamole and a ton of chips. The chips were light and crispy but the guacamole had way to much lime for my taste and I hate when any place puts shredded lettuce on the bottom of the guacamole. Overall the place has decent tacos but not worth it in my opinion. Most likely won't be back any time soon. read more
