Came back with a group of friends for dinner and got the two taco plate again, and this time I got the beer-battered cod taco and the garlic shrimp taco! Had to add a star this time because the guy who took my order was very gracious about my "no cilantro" request; even the rice that came out had no cilantro in it, and the amount of cilantro in the pico was negligible. They were even nice enough to put the plantain salsa in a side cup so that I could pick around the cilantro and put what I wanted onto the shrimp taco, which was also really delicious and filling. Beer-battered cod taco was as amazing and flavorful as last time. Still wasn't able to finish my rice and beans because there was so much of it on my plate, but they were really good! I had the pleasure of working with the owners of Taco Ocho to take photos of their dishes. After doing my job, I was starving and salivating​ over their delicious vegan meals. I didn't get the chance to write down the correct names for these meals but just know that they're all vegan and they're all freaking amazing. The tacos to the ​burrito to the sides, so so good. They truly fill you up and will, for sure, keep you wanting for more. Beyond impressed with it. They do provide meals with meat and I'm sure they're great as well! I was craving tacos and so based on reviews opted to try this place. So I can honestly say I have had better tacos. I chose a pick 2 platter. I ordered a chicken fajita taco and a Americana tostada. The taco was loaded with meat, but lacked flavor. It was bland and after two bites I was done eating it. I couldn't finish it. Now the two stars is for the tostada. It was loaded and actually all the ingredients on it worked well. It was decent and at least I could finish it. My platter came with rice and beans. The rice was pretty good, with pieces of cilantro. The beans were not good. Just bland smashed beans. So I will not visit again. I was truly disappointed. I'm still craving good tacos after this bad experience. It's not often that we return to the same place twice on our travels but this is one of those places! ... Some of my favorite breakfast tacos around! The service is always wonderful and we were seated right away both times. It's always nice to have the option of a beer or mimosa for the weekend treat as well! Great prices to boot. I love how they have a more puréed black bean, and I enjoy the the breakfast potatoes quite a lot. LOVE that they have vegan options with the chickpea scramble instead of eggs, but their eggs are great too! The polonco taco is amazing, loaded with corn and poblano peppers. I also enjoy their simpler tacos of just egg, potato and cheese. The hubs loves their chorizo taco and always gets the generous side portion of black beans to dip the complimentary chips that come with salsa! Taco Ocho has really great vegan options! They have 5 tacos that are vegan as ordered and a vegan quesadilla (made with sweet potatoes and black bean spread). Four of the five tostadas are vegetarian and could likely be easily veganized. The tacos taste fresh and flavorful, and unlike many vegan taco options, are all veggie/beans: no tofu or soy/seitan meats or other meat subs. I love me some fake meats, but it is nice to have veggie and bean focused options too! The prices are pretty good; tacos are around $4 each a la carte or you can get a two taco/two tostada plate for $11 that comes with rice, beans, and chips and salsa. My favorite tacos are the ones that come with plantains (Rico Ocho and Pura Vida). The tacos are a decent size; I think someone with a hearty appetite would want three. Tostadas are probably slightly bigger than the tostadas. I'd be interested in trying their brunch food sometime! I've only ordered take-out; they have curbside pickup, which I appreciate. (Their dining room is open during Covid, though indoor dining is really risky). read more

I first started going to this place 4 years ago when the old State Farm Complex was nearby. It was an AMAZING treat to find for our lunch break and I was so grateful a coworker showed me. The Latin love and fried fish taco are always my go to and the fresh juices are very refreshing . I went back for the first time in years this Friday and the staff was overwhelmed from to go orders and grubhub etc. To the point all the customers in the restaurant we're waiting on their food. The server forgot to bring me silverware initially and the plantains we're hard once I finally got my Latin love tacos. They do have more alcoholic selection which I liked and my drink was strong (watery but strong). The fish taco was amazing as always but towards th end of my meal I realized my jaw started to cramp which I think was from the beef. SCARY and old school occurence. They started closing about 15 minutes before official closing time which forced us out as customers. Overall, fabulous place gone bad read more

I drive past this place twice everyday. So I decided to try it. I placed an order to go and picked it up on my way home from work. 3 tacos all with corn tortillas as I have a gluten allergy. Needless to say about 15 minutes after eating I was puking everything back up which happens if I eat gluten. Needless to say that was money wasted and my stomach is pissed. And the vegetarian pura vida, was also good, and also has plantains as well as guacamole, with black beans. Ironically, I found them both to be less spicy than the fish taco, which is still great because they use cod fish (bacalao). Another place recommended for me to try. Went with a party of three. Restaurant was clean with lots of metal accents and murals on the walls. Seats about 90 people. Order at the counter. Food when ready is brought out to you. Started with the queso dip (very good - could probably eat a bucket of the stuff) Main course was an order of Ancho Garlic Shrimp tacos (Grilled shrimp, plantain pico de gallo, shredded spinach, flour tortilla - 2 tacos to an order) with rice and beans. The tacos were OUTSTANDING. Good amount of shrimp with just the right amount of spicy kick without being overpowering. Rice and bean portions were very small. Beans were more a puree than anything, but did taste pretty good mixed with the rice. Also had the Pura Vida Veggie tacos (black beans, lettuce, guacamole, plantains, cilantro, red onions, serrano peppers, spinach, flour tortilla). These were proclaimed to be good by the people I was eating with, but just a wee bit too much spice which was slightly off putting. The salsa that comes with the meal looks a bit more like ketchup than salsa. I like spicy, but I don't think this has the depth of flavor I am usually looking for...it was simply hot. Counter service was friendly and helpful with suggestions. I would definitely come back to get the Ancho Garlic Shrimp Tacos - Very Tasty. Three stars only because of small side portions of rice and beans and the taste of the salsa. Oh, and they are getting ready to open a 2nd restaurant in Frisco. read more

I didn't know where else I could leave a review but sadly I am having to leave town and where I'm going they do not have one of these restaurants and I just wanted to leave a good note for anyone who's trying it for the first time and say I've only been coming here for a little while but since the first time I've come here to the last time I have loved it every single time. The staff is always amazing. Always smiling and happy willing to accommodate any needs. My boyfriend felt that it was too cold one day so they turn the air up a little bit. Very grateful my favorite is their tostadas it's perfect every time it's just enough to fill me up and the prices really aren't bad coming from someone who is about to turn 21 and always short on money. Nice little restaurant that serves popular Mexican dishes with some unique tastes. We stumbled upon this place when the restaurant we went to was closed for the day. My wife ordered two Polanco Tacos and I ordered one each of Smoked Chicken Elote, Coco Connection and Cabo Fish. The fillings were plentiful and packed flavor. My favorite was Coco Connection which was slow cooked chicken with coconut, and the Cabo Fish, that has a huge piece of fried fish (Cod). So we were on our way to have brunch at Cafe Brazil. When we got there the line was out the door. I looked in the restaurant there were lots of empty tables so that made me think they were short handed. Then I looked to Yelp for another breakfast option close to 75. Trusty Yelp lead me to Taco Ocho! As I walked in I really didn't know what to expect. It was extremely clean and a friendly woman was standing behind the counter. I looked at the picture on the menu. It's the one with a sunny side up egg in the middle. I asked her what that was and she said it was an Ocho stack. I didn't even ask what was on it, I just ordered it. I didn't know how big it was so I ordered a bacon egg and cheese breakfast taco as well. Now, that I received the order I can tell you what is in it. It had three crispy corn tortillas stuffed with black beans, asadero cheese, carnitas and topped with an egg, avocado crema and served with Yucatan potatoes. It was heaven! I could eat it every day! Speaking of eating it everyday, could you please open one in Mckinney! The breakfast taco was much larger than most taco eateries! They did not skimp on the fillings. I left stuffed! After having a talk with my friend about going vegan, we found ourselves at Taco Ocho to begin our new journey. You might think that it's strange to come to a Mexican joint for a vegan meal, but Taco Ocho has a decent selection for vegans and vegetarians (and meat eaters too, of course). My lunch date was running late, so I ordered myself chips and guacamole which also comes with a side of salsa for a total of $5. I figured I would eat a little until she arrived, but I ended up eating damn near the whole serving- whoops! It was that good! The guacamole was fresh and all the flavors blended so well into a creamy appetizer that you can't help but eat too much of. The salsa was also a solid addition to the dish. For my main course, I ordered the Pura Vida taco and Rico Ocho taco. Both of them have sweet plantains on them, but other than that they lacked flavor and dimension. The Pura Vida was all one texture that mushed together in a baby food like consistency. My vegan journey was short lived, though, so I'll be back to try the quesadillas! read more

I would recommend eating here. Not sure when this place opened because it still seems new, so I was one of the four or so people that came through during my visit. The experience is similar to Torchy's tacos, in that you order at a counter but they do deliver your food to you. So quasi-self-service if you will. The difference here is they don't have anyone floating on the floor offering chip refills like other places I have been to, so I am under the impression the chips that come with your meal are all you get. They come with a great salsa and I tried their queso, which is also great. Fresh-tasting salsa and the queso is more than just cheese; it is flavorful. I ordered the chicken elote taco and the beef picadillo taco. They come with cilantro-lime rice and refried black beans. Everything is decent. My favorite things about my dish were the tortillas. They are corn and they are either homemade or at least high quality. Everything else as far as taste goes is just slightly above average. The atmosphere is nice and they carry Stubborn Brand soda, which is a nice quirk. Overall, I would have to say it is definitely better than Taco Cabana but I would still rather be at Qdoba or Torchy's. The place is good for a quiet lunch visit or a quick dinner. The reason it doesn't get a five is because it doesn't have that "wow" factor other places have. Their tacos seem to be a tad bit on the cheap side as far as their generosity with their meats go. The rice and bean sides, although beautifully presented, are also scant. Otherwise the flavors are fine but the tortillas steal the show. $11.90 for a 2 taco plate with a side of queso, tax, and a water. read more

When I walked into this place, I immediately turned around and walked out. The pictures online gave me the impression that this was a sit down restaurant. Don't get me wrong, you can sit down and eat in, but that feel is more fast food than dining. Like Chipotle feel seating area. I met a parton coming out and asked her about that place. She said her family was also sceptical initially and now frequent here a few times a week. She said it was worth the try. So I tried it. I ordered the 2 taco plate, a side of guac and aguas fresco for a grand total of $16.42. The plate came with chips & salsa. Overall the food was better than expected. Just meh. Maybe the lunch menu is better. Two egg chorizo and bacon tacos with beans and potatoes. Sounds good! but bland. No salt on the table. I couldn't find any meat in the pile of mush, just a wad of scrambled eggs in a flour tortilla which I forgot I'm not supposed to eat. The beans and potatoes had no seasoning. There were some soggy chips poking out of the beans. However, waitress was nice and service quick. Love how these restaurants jacked the prices up with inflation but oops forgot to lower them now that eggs are back to original price. Another $13 overpriced breakfast. Maybe I just have high standards for cuisine. People need to learn to cook because anything out of my kitchen is way better than this. We did a search for mimosas on Yelp one Saturday morning. Both of us were really wanting Mexican food, and we saw this place had good reviews. Decided this would be the spot to check out. When we arrived, we saw that they serve mimosas (there was a sign at the doorway when you walk up). We went inside to order. I ordered a breakfast burrito without pico de gallo. We also ordered mimosas. When we ordered them, the gentleman behind the counter looked at us like we were ordering something they don't have. Oh wait, they didn't have them. My girlfriend tried explaining that they advertise having mimosas. The gentleman stated that they were out of champagne. It was close to when they open, so this seems like a flaw on their part. He offered us another beverage. They have sodas and beers. We don't drink either of those, so we passed. Anyway, on to the food. My burrito was super boring. Even with pico de gallo, I'm sure it would have still been boring. It was dry. It was lacking bacon (only a few small crumbles within it). It was in desperate need of salt. I rarely put salt on my food, but this needed it. It's a nice enough place. Maybe I'll come back one day for brunch and order something different...
