This review is for the Solvang Taco Roco. The tacos TASTE good. But, are lacking in size. Taco Tuesday is a decent deal though. Friendly staff. Nice salsa bar. We visited this place on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 (evening). I give it 5 stars for the following: -walking distance from our hotel -food was brought out quickly -the lady that took our order (Alejandra) was super nice. So, why the TWO stars?? -First table we chose to sit at, was infested with ants. -food might have been fast- but it was COLD! -their salsa in the (squeeze) bottle tasted like it had gone bad -their "carne asada" plate was meat cut up in small pieces and sautéed. Not what we expect to get when we order carne asada PLATE (this meat is more like for tacos). About their TACOS... - "shredded beef" looked NOTHING like shredded beef- more like "muchy" beef. It looked more like the beef had been chewed and then spit out... Yes! It was disgusting looking!! - "grilled chicken" they don't grill their chicken, they sauté it. Nothing exciting about it! - "chorizo"... Not the real stuff! Pretty much, chorizo spices with fillers (no real meat). - "ground beef"... Ehh - "carnitas" was probably the ONLY one that looked and tasted good. About their CUSTOMER SERVICE... Like I mentioned before, Alejandra, was super nice and helpful. Their was another cashier/waitress, however (I couldn't quite read her name from her name tag)... Daisy maybe?), this woman spoke SO loud; not only was my taco experience not the best, she actually made it worst!! Anyway, if I was employed at this place and this lady spoke to me the way she was talking to the cooks... I would have quit and reported her!! Some of the things she said to the two men in the kitchen were... *why haven't you shaved the 3 hairs you have in your face... They look horrible on you. (Not sure what the cook said but to his response she replied, well I'm going to have to buy three razors just to make sure you do it right!) She repeatedly told the cook how ugly he looks! *I see you!! I caught you!!! I see how you are checking out the police officer!! From the cooks reaction, he was not "checking out" the officer. The cook was not very pleased with her comment. But, she continued to harass the man!! (Shortly after we arrived, a police officer arrived [with friends/family maybe?] to have dinner as well. Harassing the cooks went on for the entire time we were at the restaurant (about 40 minutes or so). I've had a hand full of unpleasant experiences when dining out... This is definitely one of them!! Whenever we are in town again, we will not be stopping at this place! read more

Good affordable Mexican food. Looked like the locals dig this spot for authentic dishes. I just had a breakfast burrito. It was good and the hot sauce is really good. The service was excellent, no problem with a custom order. Hard to find a good burrito spot that doesn't mess up a special request. read more

Went by today early in the morning and ordered burritos, while I waited outside for my food I saw the waiter begin to bag my food and in the process of doing so, he took off his mask, licked his fingers to grab the bag and continued bagging my food! Then he laughed by himself like if it was a joke to him. This is completely gross and unsanitary! I think I'll be calling the health department!! Other than that, the food was great!! read more

We were staying at The Sideways Inn and just wanted to grab a bite and bring it back to the room. This was the perfect spot...the carnitas burritio & 2 taco dinners were great. My wife & I were really satisfied with our meal....I don't know why taco bell is open in Buellton when you have a great mexican takeout place around the corner. read more

As we walked in for breakfast we were greeted. First impression was that it's a tiny eating area, not the cleanest, and staff were socializing. The cashier who took our order seemed nice at first but as she took our order her true colors came out. She was short with us, ignored my disabled mother who asked for something to be on the side. We paid and sat down. She served our food and served half of my food with my mother's food that didn't come as she ordered it to begin with. Then my food came several long minutes later with the rest of my mother's order. She shoved the plate at my mother seeming visibly annoyed. The other staff member that appeared to be on break the entire time we were there was nicer. I watched as this cashier bussed every table but ours, she stood around rather than tend to us so I bussed the table myself. Overall I would not go back, I would not recommend this place and honestly I had a hard time not telling this woman off for her attitude and conduct, she was very very rude. read more

Had machaca with beans and rice for breakfast great service and authentic. Coffee was pretty good too. Would eat there again.

Had the carnitas plate. The pork was Luke warm, dry and old. Looked like it was recooked/reheated several times. The rice was cold. Result was an upset stomach for the night. Horrible! Never again. read more

Yesterday I stopped by at this place the food wasn't as good as always since it was a different cook. Though as I walked in the cashiers were very kind and greeted me. Sadly, I waited for a good 45 minutes for my food. The cashiers were nice enough to offer us some free chips and salsa for the wait or a soda. Today I tried to give it another try. I wasn't disappointed much better then yesterday. The food was much better since it was a different cook. The cashiers yesterday and today were very kind, loved their service. Yesterday was a complete callous was disappointed since I waited for a long time for my food. But today they made up for the bad day I experienced with them. read more

I was visiting from Los Angeles and wanted some tacos! I found this place on the corner and went in at 11:25am to order 2 steak tacos to go, i didn't leave until 11:50 with my tacos...the service was horrible i even warned a couple behind me that I've been waiting 30 mins for 2 tacos and they thanked me for the heads up and left. After leaving the whole experience left a bad taste in mouth after that i wasn't even hungry to eat the tacos i waited for. read more

I went in last night and had the chicken crispy taco it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. There was a paper thin fried mushy chicken inside and the taco shells were over cooked and tasted like it was fried in old oil. This use to be our favorite restaurant but that last two times coming here the food has been awful. I was at my brother-in-laws in Buelton the other day and we had this incredible breakfast burrito. Now I am a burrito connoisseur and I have had many different types of burritos (In fact maybe one too many) as I adjust my beltloop again. Getting back on topic. This is the first burrito I have had with bacon, scrambled eggs and HASH BROWNS!! It was great!! I have had similar burritos a quarter the size of this at the big chains but this burrito was a meal in itself NO COMPARISON!. If you are visiting Solvang you must try one of these burritos for breakfast. After you have breakfast make it a point to stop and shop for the kids at Lila and Shani's Chic Boutique they have great clothes for kids. read more

The food here is so wonderful. Fresh, clean , fast and pleasantly presented. The textures and sauces were exquisite. The term 5 star cuisine, historically doesn't apply here. However, everything about their food, their service, diversity of menu and cleanliness deserves 5 star status. If we weren't on a schedule we would have gone back to get dinner take out! I was very impressed with this place. We came in with a big party including kids (yeah kids meals!) and they easily accommodated us. There was a quaint little patio outside and by the time we were settled in our seating the food started coming up. It appeared to be family run as we felt very comfortable and attended to. I had flautas and took soup to go. I thought it would be a small ap based on the pic and price but they were huge and delicious. Great tacos. Perfect Mexican street food if that's what you like. Also if you like Hitching Post or Anderson's you might not like the unassuming food here. Both of those places are tourist traps and the food is pretty much crappy. The food here will warm your belly and it is truly the closest thing to the vendors in Baja Mexico read more

sour cream from a tube, guacamole from Costco jar.... this place is Mexican food ONLY if your from Germany and have never had it before! not very good and no handmade food, wow given how much access everyone has to real good ingredients these people choose to phone it in. whoever gave these people a rating higher than 2 stars doesn't know what mexican food tastes like. the ingrediants are not fresh and you can make the same meal buying it frozen from costco.....I'm with Jason R. skip a meal or eat at taco bell before this place, besides there are good mexican places close by! denny's makes more authenticate food than these folks read more

Busy for some reason. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I had a bunch of tacos, none of which were remarkable. The price was right though and the place was pretty busy, clean too. Terrible customer service, it was absolute trash. She had a complete attitude with me because there was a misunderstanding. Her worker doesn't speak fluent English so she was very confused with my order. Instead of politely trying to tell me that she has a hard time understanding and simply misunderstood, she caught a very foul attitude and said "you want a soda or not." After I told her that working in customer service requires her to be able to hold back her tongue (and attitude) when dealing with customers. I live close by and usually go to the one in solvang, love the place but will never come back to this one due to her distasteful "skills" in customer service and communication. She continued to argue with me over whether or not she had an attitude and I couldn't believe that she was still going on about it. I wish I could've left them but I had unfortunately already ordered my meal. Shame. read more
