Checked out this place for taco tuesday. They offer pretty good deals worth looking into. The tacos themselves were ok at best, unfortunately bland for the most part. My sister ordered a birria taco (not part of the taco tuesday special) and it was seriously amazing. The meat was tender, juicy and well seasoned. Worth paying more for a taco that actually has flavor. The fajitas plate we ordered was also tasty and generously portioned. Staff is friendly and efficient, and seating area is clean. read more

This past Monday Dec. 2nd would have been my 3rd time eating at Taco Roco. I ordered the Asada Nachos To-Go, After I ate the Nachos, I got really sick. At around midnight, I woke up and had to vomit. Sleepless night and throughtout the rest of the day I could not eat and had bad stomach issues. I don't know if it was the cheese or something else. read more

My experience was not the best like other reviews We had Caldo de res. It was old . I did not get any meat on my plate I had to go asked. After I received a meat it did not belong to the soup .. very old salty soup.. Came here twice. The first time the tacos were tasty. White meat. Second time we went I guess was taco Tuesday if I remember where they served different quality meats but they charged me same price. When I called them out on it the lady told my that they were trying out a different meat. So I guess it was pigeon meat and not chicken meat they were serving that day. I go there for the chili Colorado which they usually have only on Wednesday. It's really delicious! Kind of like Mexican Bolognese.

VEGAN EATERS HERE....Just LOVE this little place, tucked away in a discrete little shopping center in the middle of Solvang. It's super clean and organized, the proprietors are so kind and attentive, typically visiting every table to check on you, clearly proud of what they do and what they offer which, is fast, fresh, totally delicious and Mexican food. The diverse clientele tells the story, a mix of SYV locals, nurses from the nearby hospital, vineyard folk and all the rest. People EAT here, big plates of food, served quickly with an array of housemade salsas and toppings that is never less than fully stocked and fresh! TACO TUESDAY is probably our favorite day and we don't often miss a chance to take out of town guests and friends who are always glad they came along. Prices will surprise you too, there really ARE $1.25 tacos here on Tuesday and plenty reasonable on other days. Being vegan, the crispy potato tacos are absolutely amazing. Fresh from the fryer, loaded with greens and the aforementioned spread of toppings a few steps away. We also snag their super fresh guacamole and chips, no filler added here. Taco Roco doesn't have a fancy ambience and seems a little out dated in fact. But the food was good and that was all that really mattered to me. I gave the fish tacos a try and I wasn't disappointed. The fish was not dry and had a good amount of flavor on it's own. I also like the fact that they have a condiment bar that has different salsas, jalapenos, etc. My husband also seemed to enjoy his burrito. Have been going to this place for years. Went today for a little combo plate action, and as I got my food and sat down with a steamy plate of cuisine, I scooped some salsa with a chip and guess what little surprise I found. A bug, which resembled a small cockroach, was floatin around in there. I don't know if it fell in there and drowned, or if it just didn't get blended up when they made the salsa since they told me they actually use them for an added kick. Great food does not have to be expensive. I have grown up eating here for 20+ years enjoying this restaurant and the quality has never diminished. Sunday mornings are the best. The food is just fair here along with the service. Yes it's probably better than Taco Bell but not by much. Greasy apparently cooked in lard. The one across Neilson's shopping center may be a tiny bit better but the customer service is so bad we stopped going there. Los Arroyos which shut down next to New Frontiers was excellent. Actually better and less expensive than Dos Cava or whatever they call it. Cava on Coast Village Road in Montecito shut down last year...over priced and lousy service. Leonardo's In Nielsen's shopping center is just plain lousy food, over priced and poor customer service. Bull Dog Cafe in Nielsen's shopping center is just okay. About the only places we recommend to eat at or take out in Solvang are Solvang Brewing Company, Paula's Pancake House and Bit of Denmark. My family and I are locals living in the Valley since the 70's. Most of the restaurants in Solvang are over rated, over priced tourist traps with lousy food and service. Even Domino's Pizza and Subway in Solvang are lousy. There are a handful of good to great restaurants in Buellton and Santa Ynez that locals frequent. Being a small town many restaurants get away with lousy to fair over priced food and lousy to mediocre service. However there are a handful of good to great ones. Our top 3 picks in the Valley: 1. Breakfast and lunch: Ellen's Pancake House in Buellton. 2. Lunch and dinner: Red Barn in Santa Ynez. 3. Lunch and dinner: Willows Restaurant at Chumash Casino. Disgusting. Ordered a carne asade burrito which should really be called a chuck steak burrito. Not only do they try to pass off chuck steak as carne asada but it was served cold. Some meat was semi moist while other pieces were equivalent to beef jerkey. To top it off, there was a gritty texture... thought I was eating dirt. I don't think they even tried. This is a very small place. Usually the little hole in the wall places are good. Sorry to say this place wasn't. We drove about too hours to spend the day at the Chumash Casino Resort and for lunch we wanted to eat outside the Casino. So we went to this location.Right from the beginning the lady taking the order no personality, no smile, no hello,most of all no Thank You after we had paid. I'm a fan of Mexican Food this was bad. No taste, I ordered the chicken enchiladas rice and beans combo plate. When my dish came, I could see they used a microwave to heat up the beans. The interior of the beans were very hot and the outside were Luke warm. I wanted to return all the plates back to them, but I held back, because of all my guests we wanted to enjoy our day off. Tasty and affordable. Especially Taco Tuesdays for $1 a taco including crispy tacos. Yes it's not gourmet. But homey and fast. The beans and rice were delicious. So much more filling than the $$$ meal we ate the day before at The Succulent Cafe which for 10$ for a child's plate was ridiculous. Located in the Neilsen's plaza this is more of a locals spot than a tourist haunt. Ambiance wise I'd say this place is a little behind the average Taco Roco location and looks a little shabby - It's an old Taco Bell after all. The food is always consistent. Good enough but nothing super authentic or great. On average this is my go to for something quick and affordable or something to help me get through a hangover. The salsa bar is a nice touch but always looks a little dirty. The best sauce is the hot one they give you at the counter so I usually steer clear. Finding it via gps was kinda hard as its in a stripmall towards the back on the left side. Plenty of parking and open late as a local place. Came to it because this type of food is quick and usually hard to mess up. I had the 3 crispy tacos with chicken but the chicken reminded me of McD's chicken nuggets that had no flavor and wasn't made of ?chicken. The tortillas were greasy and over fried. Topped with lettus strips, cheese, bits of tomatoes looked fresh. My wife got the 2 fish tacos with no flavor and the tortilla which we are convinced made her stomach feel like it had a large air bubble and ache. Alka-Seltzer to the rescue! The rrefried beans were good and the rice is as same as everywhere. The horchata came out of the tap like soda!? Not okay.
