Not bad. Came here the other day for dinner after my wife expressed a taste for Mexican food. We both got chicken burritos. Good customer service. Everybody in here was friendly. We called in our order before getting there and it was ready. On to the burrito. It was good. The chicken was moist and had good flavor and the rest of the ingredients tasted fresh and complemented the burrito well. I can't call it the best burrito I've had but it was good enough to merit a return. I'll likely return one day, next time I'm in a mood for Mexican food & in the area. read more

The food presentation was good but the flavor was bland. I tried the carne asada burrito and an al pastor taco. My wife had a carnitas taco plate and we both agreed the flavor was just okay but bland. The rice was horrible. The salsas and pico de gallo lacked flavor. Beans also just okay. I hate to do this; however, what a disappointment. I should have known when I asked for horchata and they already had it dispensed in individual cups. This is a smaller version of the BIG chain of Mexican fast food restaurants. Two taco plate, burrito and coke for $23, please. Taco plates at traditional Mexican restaurants have three tacos. Rude customer service. I used to come here weekly pre Covid to eat lunch. I ordered 3 meals plus additional taco that equaled 10 tacos. When I checked my order while I waited for 2 additional tacos I ordered I noticed they only gave me 3 habanero sauce without the red and green sauce. I asked for more and the rude pick up person gave me 1 red and 1 green and I asked for 2 more each. He was like no you already got salsas. I showed him I only got 3 he said I'll give you more but give me back 1. Then gave me 1 each and I said I wanted to 2 each. The manager had to come and confirmed they allowed 1 sauce per taco. For 10 tacos with $41 ordered and rice and beans I have to plead for a total of 8 salsas in total. This is a shame, I won't be back. read more

I am not quite sure how this restaurant holds a 4.5 stars on Yelp. I suspect family and friends posting bias reviews or acquired through a paid service. However, the night of 10/12 the $27 of food I purchased didn't meet the expectations of a restaurant with a 4.5 rating. The food was bland; the meat was tough (Al Pastor, carnitas) except for the ground beef tacos with meat consistency of purée baby food. Stop reading reviews and just go here. I do not even like pork and I liked the al pastor here. The carne asada was amazing as was the portobello. The avacado taco was also good, but the competition was just too fierce. I got my tacos to go and a cup of each type of salsa was included with some chips in the bag. Both salsas were so on point that I brought the little bit I had left home from work for my husband to taste (he was not pleased that I ate tacos without him). The food was so good, but the owner was also super nice and I like how they included a paper in my to go bag to eat on (I didn't have to clean my desk after). If you're vegan, this is one of the few spots in the Northwest Suburbs that can do up a mean burrito with vegan chorizo. All the staff are so sweet, and if you like spicy stuff, be sure to try out their habañero sauce. I'm so happy yet so sad that I found this place. Happy because it's beyond delicious, but sad because it's only 10 minutes away and it's dangerous having such good food so close by. I was SO excited to see that they had vegetarian options and not just a taco with lettuce and tomatoes, but actually soy chorizo, as well as portobello and avocado tacos. I ordered the avocado which was good but the soy chorizo is what I was super happy about. Getting vegetarian options in the suburbs is usually so lackluster and disappointing. The absolute best part is that they told me that they cook their soy chorizo and vegetables in a separate area from their meat. As a vegetarian, I really appreciate this being done, because most places just cook it all in the same area. My husband also got the carnitas taco and enjoyed it as well. I went basic with the ground beef tacos, but I asked to try a sample of the Carne Asada and Carnitas and each were delicious. The staff were fast and super nice. Wow. This place came to me out of the blue from my stylist. She raved about the tacos and said I must try. Stupid me waited four weeks, but finally stopped for a late lunch. It looks like any other small taco spot with about 10 two-seater tables and a counter. It's clean, and I could tell by the smell of spices in the air I was going to like it. The service was friendly and prompt, I felt like I was at someone's home. You could tell they care about the quality of the food and take pride in it. It put a smile on my face. You go to the farthest end and place your order and of course I had to go with the taco platter which is two tacos and a side of rice and refried beans. Went with classic picadillo which is basically spiced ground beef. Also asked about the horchata and was offered a sample which sealed the deal. I paid and sat down to chips and red salsa. Great chips, very fresh and crispy, not too salty. Salsa was terrific, as it looked and smelled. The horchata is perfect, authentic and not grainy, with just the right amount of cinnamon. In what was probably four minutes but felt like forty, my platter came. One look and I knew it was going to be on. These tacos transported me back to living in CA - you take that first bite, exhale, and close your eyes. Authentic, two layers of perfectly fresh corn tortillas, tasty beef, ugh they were so good. Right away I wished I ordered three haha The best corn tortillas are hard to find and these were strong enough to hold together because they have just a slight sponge to them. Yum is all I can say. Perfection. The rice and beans were authentic and delicious and a good compliment to the tacos. I remember leaving thinking how quickly I'm going to return and how dumb I was for waiting so long. It is right next to our favorite ice cream place so we were familiar with the area. It's in a strip mall on the NW corner of NW Highway and Quentin toward the far SE corner of the strip mall. Parking is plentiful since the other nearby businesses are a workout gym and baseball training facility. The neon sign simply says Taco Shop. There are probably 8 tables in the place and you order at the back. A few people came in to pick up their carryout order and staff was very nice in remembering some customers while ensuring other orders were packed properly. We ordered the tacos al pastor, carnitas, and beer battered fish. My wife had the super nachos with the ground beef. The nachos are simply dressed with refried beans, shredded cheese which is melted, pico de gallo, guacamole, and the ground beef. The chips are thin and crispy yet hold up to the weight. All of the tacos were spectacular with the slight sweetness in the al pastor, crispness of the carnitas, and light batter that doesn't overpower the fish. Dude this place is straight legit. We loved everything about this no frills taco joint in good old Palatine. We started with the gaucamole which was on par with the best around. Then fajitas dinners, chimichanga, even an amazing fish taco, and kids meal chicken fingers where had by all. Can I just add that the workers were all extreme friendly and accommodating throughout. This is a great new spot and a welcome addition to the crappy hot dog stand that occupied this former space. I met the owner and she's super sweet and friendly. Tried the Carne Asada tacos and they were outstanding. Good quality skirt steak as many of the other joints in the area are flavorless, tough as nails and fatty. Also, they have several authentic taco varieties along with burritos and quesadillas. As long as they don't start skimping on quality this place should be in the neighborhood awhile and I can't wait to return to try some of the other menu items. read more
