My friends and I came here on a Wednesday like right when they opened at 4pm and I don't know to me it seemed like the staff was a bit unwelcoming when we arrived because of this but they made up for it during our time here. The cocktails here looked delicious and it was hard not try them all lol. I decided on La Diosa which was amazing...I wanted to order it all night but the drinks were kinda pricey. For food I had the Guacamole & Chips & Carne Asada Tacos. I loved the food-the guacamole was made very well. My tacos were super duper good. The steak was cooked to perfection. We were one of the few people in the restaurant so the wait time was confusing. And we were seated 30mins later in a lounge section. We had made a reservation for a regular table, so we had to wait about 10 more minutes for them to change us... ok fine. The drinks were ok, I had a passion fruit margarita I believe it was and it tasted like smoke, very disappointing. The food portions are TINY. If you come hungry you will leave hungry. The pork on the al pastor taco was very moist topped with mini chunks of pineapple was very flavorful. The server told me to squeeze the lime first then add the green sauce on the tacos. To start with, I've had an excellent experience at Taco Tumba. I love that they are consistent in checking for proof of your vaccination. My wife ordered Pulpo al pastor (octopus) in combination with Noche de passion (cocktail) and I ordered Queso fundido (fresh flour tortilla with a cheese dip) with Agua fuego (slightly spicy cocktail), then ordered a Pacifico beer towards the end. The Octopus was cooked properly which matches very well with the accompanying sauce, the cheesy dip sauce for the fresh flour tortilla was blended well. The bartender did an excellent job mixing our drinks (a lot better than most of the restaurants that I have been to), both were a well balanced cocktail. Alcohol volume on the drinks was on the spot and was proportionate with the mixed ingredients. Waite staff seems to come to my table always at the right time, not too frequent and not to the point that I feel neglected, my glass of water gets refilled regularly. I love the ambiance, classy and was not overdone. Music was great, not too loud to have a good conversation, excellent choice of music (where I was tempted to dance) while having good food and drinks. The chef sent out a lobster soup that's not on the menu which was really good. One of the drinks I saw being posted was a skull on fire cup, and turns out this drink was around $26. Not worth it. The drinks were weak and the food was not portioned well for the price. Tasted good but $16 for 2 small tacos isn't the best deal. Plus our waiter charged us for food that we didn't order. What an experience. This restaurant is sexy. From the time you walk in the door, to the layout, decor, and seating. His feels so authentic in every way. The food is amazing. He also brought us a complimentary appetizer which was Elote de Olla and it was a nice treat. We ordered Pulpo al Pastor, it's grilled octopus. It didn't disappoint. I am very skeptical when it comes to octopuses, and I have to say I was impressed. It was grilled perfectly, and the texture was on point. It was tender and fresh and the pepita mole sauce went well with it. We also had Guacamole which was good. Then we ordered Pescado Tacos, they were amazing. We didn't have a long wait time for a table but as the waitress brought us to the table area we realized how crowded the tables were. It was so close together and cramped you had to like shimmy to get in. We decided to just wait for the bar seating to open up because we were def claustrophobic with it being such a narrow place. When we got back to the bar it was a good time. The bartenders were working HARD. The drinks were so good and I loved the experience of the flaming skull drink. I will say the birrira tacos were just okay . My friend said the menu seemed to be a special menu only for cinco demayo which I could agree with because the menu at the bar was very limited . A good friend of mine made a reservation for a party of 12 to celebrate her birthday at this restaurant with a almost two week notice, when we all arrived there was no reservation under her name. After speaking to the hostess, they went ahead and tried to accommodate our large party on a couch section that only fits about 9-10 guests comfortably. Let's just say we were not that happy about how the night started but we weren't going to let that ruin the night. We tried to make the best of it since our birthday girl wanted to check out this joint. Our server was patient with us but multiple times drinks took a very long time to hit the table, and the food did as well. However, the taste was delicious and this was probably the only highlight of the night and the sole reason my review is getting two stars. Unfortunately, I have a dairy allergy and for some reason my plate took the longest to make (grill chicken on a tortilla) it sucked that I was the very last person to get my tacos after everyone was done with their meal. The cherry on top was when we got the bill and there was two gratuities added, 20% for our group being a large party and 18% for standard purposes. After bringing this up to management, we were told it was a system error. Thankfully we analyzed the bill before paying but I wonder if this "system error" is a way of the servers getting their money's worth. So if you're coming with a large group please make sure you get a confirmation of your reservation so that our unfortunate situation doesn't happen to you, and double check your bill at the end of the night. read more
