I had high hopes for this place. I ordered the chips and queso and three tacos - chicken tinga, steak and beef barbacoa. The chips and queso came out first. The chips tasted they came from a bag. They didn't seem restaurant made or fresh. The queso was a major disappointment. It was microwaved nacho cheese which had no taste and it wasn't hot. The queso definitely came from a can and was not made there. The tacos weren't all that great either. Although they were a decent size the meat in each one was cold and came out of a warmer. Only the Barbacoa had an taste the rest were underwhelming. I don't think I'll be visiting this place again. read more

The BEST taco place in northern va . And yes I realize the seriousness of this statement lol. I have searched far and wide for a taco place and usually one thing will be good but there has never been a place that is 100% all around amazing . This is that place . These tacos were perfect . The tortillas used were great (not falling apart like some places ). The consume was perfect. I absolutely loved that their portions are generous and everything in the taco is perfect in size. Great amount of meat, cheese, onions , cilantro etc . A lot of places have salty consume but these guys nailed it. Also I want to add that what's really impressive is the effort they take into their packaging . Most places in the area have your typical styrofoam box and plastic bag. Check my pictures out because they really went above and beyond. Nice bag with my name on it (brownie point for organization) inside the bag was a plastic bag and I am beyond impressed with the quality of the containers they used . Not only is their food amazing but they really go the extra mile for packaging too which means a lot . The guy at the counter was super friendly . It is such a breath of fresh air to find a very clean establishment, great customer service, great packaging, and amazing food . This place is the absolute real deal and a must have for anyone in the area looking for delicious tacos! Taco Zocalo doesn't offer some of the more authentic meats but they still offer an impressive variety of meats so there is a little something for everyone....even Vegetarians. They give you the option to get your tacos with either a corn or flour tortilla. Do yourself a favor and always get the corn tortilla if you want to get the best experience. The tortillas here are lightly fried so they have a really really nice crunch with every bite. The tacos also some fully stuffed with the meat of choice, tomatoes, cheese, cabbage, cilantro, and onions. Again not the usual toppings you'd expect with just onions and cilantros but it really works. Every bite was juicy, crunchy, spicy, salty, and savory. I'm so glad this place opened up in the area, I'll definitely be a frequent customer. Only thing that would make it better is if they had a sweet deal on Tuesday ;) read more

We came here after the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. It's 5 minutes from the location and was an enjoyable experience. The service was great and we got our food quickly. The ingredients were fresh. We got the Birria tacos, shrimp tacos, guacamole and chips, rice and beans and everything was delicious. The Birria beef brisket tacos really stood out. Very flavorful! The salsa here is the best I ever had & the food being halal is a plus, but the tacos I had were mid grade (chicken tinga & veggie), there was no rice available when we came, & the customer service was pretty lame. This place used to be amazing when it was called "chef on wheels" in Reston. I moved away in 2019 and have been back to the Reston location and this one. They are not nearly as good. Disappointing bc it was my favorite place before. And the queso is literally just Tostitos store bought crap that is obviously way overpriced. They used to be all about "fresh" as the owner would say. I'll give it another chance bc I used to really love it. The queso is garbage though. read more

Went on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. The kitchen was swamped with catering orders, so the wait was longer than anticipated. I ordered 3 tacos (chorizo, steak, and chicken tinga) and my partner ordered a steak burrito. We waited around 30 ish minutes before we received our food. Compared to other taco places (particularly the ones in the Maryland - college park/laurel area), this was okay. The quantity of food was definitely sufficient, as my partner and I both left very full. The quality is alright. I wouldn't say it's the best tacos I've had but they did the job. On a lighter note, it was interesting to try the different house made hot sauces. Definitely helped add some flavor to my selection. read more

First timer and was not disappointed. Tacos, queso, and churro were all AMAZING! Excited we have found a yummy, nearby taco place!

First visit to this restaurant, well past the lunchtime rush. I asked the order-taker what he would recommend and after a short wait, received a trio of corn tacos: fish, chicken and barbacoa. What I liked: tacos were prepared with care, hot and obviously fresh ingredients. My favorite was the barbacoa as it had the strongest flavor profile. The fish was also very good and benefited from a generous squeeze of lime. Chicken was mildest, perhaps a touch dry - these I'd order for my Mom, who hates anything spicy. A trio of sauces were brought to the table - my favorite was the tomatillo/jalapeno. The pineapple/habanero had a bit more zip and the last habanero-based sauce was only OK. Big thumbs up for the excellent, cheerful service (thanks, Sappy!) and the cleanliness of the restaurant. Suggestions: I like a good contrast of textures on my tacos, so additional cabbage or peppers on top would be welcome - I'll ask for this the next time I visit. Also, a kick-azz sauce (scotch bonnets?) would really help add some zing. Overall, a very nice addition to the taco-scene in Chantilly. I'll definitely be back. read more

Had a great first experience here, despite coming for the birria tacos on the wrong day(Tuesday and Sunday's only). But I def will be back! Gentleman that worked there was very helpful and made some great recommendations. I got 3 tacos (chicken tinga, the special which was a spicy ground chicken, & Barbacoa. The chicken was cold in spots and tasted like crockpot shredded chicken that sat in the fridge overnight and then was reheated. My husband had brisket and chorizo. Both tasted like reheated meat. TOTAL: $35.97 Birria looks and taste like something I would get from unnamed fast food chain. I ask the cashier if he gave me tacos instead of Birria. He replied that is Birria I've been to Mexicano. This was my first time at Taco Zocalo, and sadly my last. I ordered a burrito with ground beef and some chips and salsa. First off, the chips came out warm, and had just the right amount of salt.... They tasted similar to store bought chips, but obviously were not. The salsa was definitely fresh, but it was watery with plenty of pieces of fresh tomato and onions floating within. I am not much of a fan of salsa in this style, and sure enough I didn't like this iteration. To make matters worse, it wasn't spicy, and I like my salsa *HOT*. In the case of the burrito, the portion amount was just fine, and nothing was skimped on, but alas it was quite bland, and no amount of the house varieties of "hot" sauce (mild sauce would be more accurate) provided to the table would add any real heat or character to the burrito to my chagrin. Service was quite good for the rather spartan dining area, where you place your order at the counter, but they bring your meal to you at the table and clean up after you are done. I just wish they had fountain drink machines available instead if forcing you to buy soda in cans. Oh well, all in all not a bad experience, but quite average on the whole and not worth any kind of special trip unless you don't have a Chipotle or California Tortilla near you (as I confess despite the raves of this place being authentic, I would chose either of those others easily over it for less money). 2 1/2 stars out of 5, rounded up to 3. read more

I went to this taco place after getting a lot of recommendations but it was a super let down. They have a variety of taco options and sauces but it's the same toppings for all of them. A fish taco will have the same toppings as bbq brisket so if the protein is mild, you won't even be able to tell the tacos apart. read more

I have passed this eatery for months upon leaving Costco in Chantilly. I finally stopped in and ordered 3 tacos--grilled chicken, chicken tinga, and steak. The steak was delish, the chicken tinga had a amazing spice level that hits you a few bites in;however, some of the pieces of chicken was a bit hard. The grilled chicken taco was also good, but tasted a bit salty to me. The star of the show for me was the steak. I also ordered chips and salsa and the homemade salsa was amazing! Overall, this was a great visit. I had nice service and the inside seating area was very clean. I will be back for sure. I have only 4 stars because I wish there was a salsa bar. read more

The grilled fish tacos were very mushy. The elote is not grilled, it appeared to have been sitting in a Luke warm pot of water, not hot at all, actually room temperature.
