Ok everyone, here's the deal: It's cheap, the salsas are awesome and the service is as good as you get for a taco truck. That's it. Let's talk about that meat, specifically the beef. Is it really beef? Or is it some other part of the cow and considered "beef"? If you pay close attention to the flavor and textures, it tastes like another part of the animal. Like hot dogs, tongue, tail etc. Someone said they were sure it was chitlins. They may be on to something. I've been to plenty of taquerias all over California, and I know what marinated awesome beef tastes like. Methinks the hipsters are too drunk to notice, plus the fact that stuffing those little cups with colorful sauces is kinda fun. It makes this place seem, well, hip. Great Taco Truck and I love the parking. The tacos are tasty and the quesadillas are killer. I haven't had a burrito but they look delish as well. The wife and I love driving here. We park in the Von's lot, wait for our food, then return the lot and pull out our folding camping chairs and cooler and dine under the stars. It's so romantic. Sooooo overrated. I am annoyed with anyone who gave this joint more than three stars because I wasted my time, money, and calorie allotment here. I felt like i was chomping on unrecognizable-meat-flavored acrylic lint. I got three different tacos: asada, chorizos, carnitas. They all looked the same. They all tasted the same. They all had the same texture. And as another reviewer mentioned, there were no napkins. Forreal, that is inexcusable if you're eating shit with your hands. Everyone should head on down and grab a 'dilla! ______________________________________________________ Went last night (6/6/09) after a night in hollywood, and I saw one of the most saddest things i've ever seen... lights flashing...chaos ensued...fire department scrambling around...civilians looking for their loved ones...ladies and gents...the taco zone truck has burned down!! I'm not sure exactly what happened...but when I got there around 12:45, I saw the LAFD taking pictures, no one eating bomb 'dillas, and the top of the truck charred as if it was on fire. Great taco truck if you're in the area. But I usually spend my taco money in the Pasadena/Echo Park/Highland Park area... Food comes plain - you pile on the condiments as you like for yourself. Whenever I go to a truck like this, I'm usually all about the taco. 3 or 4 tacos usually does it for me, unless I'm really hungry and I order much more or end up ordering a burrito instead. The food is alright. I have to say that it can't beat my faves in my hood - El Taquito Mexicano, La Estrella, Arturo's... However, as many have already indicated, the service is beyond awesome for a taco truck. The ladies are always smiling and are quick to give you suggestions if you're ever in doubt of something. The lines aren't that bad. My visits are usually after 9PM, but I get in and out of there pretty quickly. Plenty of parking at the supermarket lot, which is another plus. As I have many great options close by, I wouldn't drive myself all the way out here to get some grub. However, if I'm in the area, it'll always be an option that I'd consider. read more

One of my favorite taco trucks in LA. There are a lot of choices here but I usually stick to their carne asada tacos. The meat is flavorful, the food is cheap, and the workers are so sweet. It's really great that they have big buckets full of sauces/onions/cilantro/salsas that you can grab for yourself. My boyfriend loves the fact that they have mulitas here (basically like mini quesadillas with corn tortilla rather than flour). He says they are the best mulitas he's ever had. Whenever we go together we make sure to pile our tacos with the works...it gets kinda messy to eat but whatever; it's so bomb. The truck parks right in front of Vons on Alvarado St. so there's always plenty of parking. There are two stands where you can eat, but if it's crowded, my boyfriend and I usually open up the trunk of his car and sit there. Either way, the tacos are delicious. Food: It was ok. I agreed with my partner that the food smelled better than it tasted. I got the veggie tacos, which didn't really have veggies in them. Basically it's a small tortilla, rice, and (the only veggies) beans. He got a chicken burrito. We grabbed complimentary salsas, pico de gallo, and lime to go. Maybe they were having an off day, but our food tasted a little burnt. My tacos were just lackluster. He didn't even finish his burrito (he gave the rest to his cat). Price: It's cheap - I give them that. The most expensive thing on the menu is $7. It's CASH only. You can probably dig up enough coins from your couch or car to muster enough for a taco or two. Ambiance: It was not exactly hoppin'. We went on a crisp, cold Saturday night. Maybe the winter weather kept people away, as there was no line. I was expecting to see some transients or other late night weirdos that one might see on the nearby Sunset Blvd, but I only saw a few skaters in the adjacent Vons lot. The small putt-putt generator that sat in the towing van was a bit loud and smelly. There is no sitting area, unless if you count the curb. You can grab and go, or eat in your car. Customer Service: He did most of the talking en Espanol, so I just observed. The ladies who manned the food truck seemed very nice, patient, and helpful. We didn't wait too long for our food -- remember there was no line. Parking: Since they don't open until after rush-hour, you can park on Alvarado. I didn't do it, but I imagine that others park in the Vons lot. Overall review: To be honest, I don't understand the hype. My vegetarian friends and top 10 lists got it wrong. I have been going here for 6 plus years. I was introduced to them by my brother when I was vegetarian because they have the best veggie tacos. Although, now that I am a meat eater and do not eat dairy or gluten~ the meat tacos are the best! You really can't beat the price of their tacos for $1.50. They even put so much meat on one taco that you can separate the two tortillas and make 2 tacos from one. I still eat 4 tacos a sitting. Plus they have the best spread for sauces and fresh veggies ~cabbage, cilantro, onions, radishes, cucumbers. I just love this place. read more

So I spent a month living in Echo Park and was a half mile from this truck. It took me a while before I finally went and I had the best meat I had never heard of before, suadero. The lady suggested I get it and man that was the best decision I have ever made. The meat on top of the two tortillas and the red sauce out of a giant jug, nothing beats that. I also would always bring my dog and she would put some extra meat on the plate so I could give my puppy some. At the urging of my publisher, who grew up near there, my buddy and I wandered down to the TACO ZONE truck, on Alvarado, down by the Von's, after doing a reading at Stories Books and Cafe. The Suadero quesadilla was so delicious and rich and cheesy that my friend and I barely said a word to one another, trading looks of satisfaction and smiling periodlically, our chins swathed in dripping grease, as we vainly tried to finish the gargantuan delicacy. Thank goodness for the generously portioned cup of Horchata to wash it all down with! The super sweet, extra cinnamon-y, icey beverage perfectly balanced the hardiness of our quesadillas. I have rarely had such a wholly satisfying dining experience while standing out on the street, next to a grocery store parking lot, with a whole slew of strangers, all of us silently--near reverently--jawing down on some of the best Mexican truck food I've ever been lucky enough to eat! read more

God I wish I was one of the first 100 people to review this place because you can't say anything more about the Arepas! Those things are fricken delicious and sprinkled with crack. The price alone is worth it. For $15 I can get 9 tacos and 2 Arepas and consider me a happy camper. It's hard to find a happy kinda place like this. I mean it's called... Taco Zone Truck... please take it with a grain assault, you can't expect that this place would be a fine dining or anything like that, it's a truck with two little Mexican ladies working it from 10pm -3am and they probably serve over 300 covers. Aint too shabby. But the key to a great taco here is add the salsas and onions, the meat is the platform for greatness, it's up to you to pull the sword from the stone. Yes there were some better than the others, but I had one of each and I couldn't tell what was what, but I did know when i bit into it and what I liked and didn't. I cannot count how many times my friends and I have stopped here to cap the night off properly after a couple hours of debauchery in K Town or any other night time haunt in the Downtown LA area. The only thing I ever get from taco trucks are carne asada tacos. I believe these are always the true testament to whether or not anything else the truck offers is going to be worth eating. If they nail the carne asada tacos they usually get everything else right & this place definitely makes proper taco truck tacos. If you go here when most people do (Friday or Saturday nights) then expect to wait a little bit. Its never that ridiculous but things always seem a bit longer and harder to wait for after a night of drinking. Not somewhere I'm going to drive just to eat lunch but definitely somewhere you cannot go wrong if you're out at night in Downtown/K Town/J Town. read more

i did a taco tasting night, kike's tacos, tacos arizas and taco zone. Taco zone is on the bottom out of those 3. Don't know y it is ranked so high on yelp. the ladies are nice here, but the tacos are not that great. Everything is just chopped up too fine, so it becomes almost like ground meat. It was the same for all the different tacos i ordered, buche, tripas, asada, pastor and lengua. the salsas were way salty. i did like the cabbage and cumbers condiment. If you are ever in the OC/Santa Ana, there is a good cart on 1st st and newhope st. Most tacos are 80 cents, while lengua is $1 and tripas $1.50 (tripas is worth it) read more

I cannot I spent $10 at a taco truck. This place is expensive and caters to the hipsters in the neighborhood. I got two tacos and a quesadilla for $10. I was thinking -- how expensive is this place. They don't even put their prices on the window. I've eaten this only after a night of music in the Silver Lake and hungry. The meat here is bland and not that great, that you'd have to probably hungry and drunk to appreciate the food here. Does not feel like an authentic taco truck experience. It was crowded and the menu from my perspective was obscured from view so other than knowing what kinds of meat they had, I had no idea the prices of the food. I shared the suedero burrito with my friend and it was okay. Although, it was my first time having suadero, I really enjoyed it and will make it a point to order if I see it again. Great late night taco spot and one of the best taco trucks in LA! (And I used to live by El Chato!) Open late, walking distance from my place, and overall great selection of meats and sauces. My go-tos are the asada and lengua and an order of horchata. Boyfriend gets the vegetarian tacos and those are legit as well. I'm a huge fan of condiments, especially salsas, so I always get a little container of each sauce to go. You can eat by the truck if you are super hungry, but I prefer to take it to go and indulge in the comfort of my own home. This place is really close to Angelus Temple. It is the home of the BEST carne asada quesadilla I've ever had! At most taco trucks, I just get tacos but I need their quesadillas when I visit. We don't live even remotely near this truck. To get here from home we need to wind our way through Boy's Town onto Sunset trying to stay out of the path of teen aged street racers all the while. It was outside the bus station (Centro Del Norte), in Mexico City, and it specialized in suadero. They really melted in your mouth, and were so CHEAP! 5 for a 2 dollars. Perfect spot for some Late night mexican food after a night at a bar or club or for a simple late night snack for a cheap price! I've been to a couple mexican food trucks and I know for some, they might not be able to stomach food cooked at the back of a truck but this should definitely not worry you. Foods great and for the price you can't go wrong! I've ordered a few different things on the menu but I've constantly come back when I'm in the area and would order the pastor tacos, asada tacos, or suedero (not sure if that spelled right but i think it's pronounced SWADERO lol). This is my favorite taco truck in town. I wish I could just hitch them to my car and steal them away. The truck has a usual spot and parks here around 8 pm and there's usually a line but it moves fast. Also, it is cash only and there's no non-sketchy ATM nearby so be prepared or hope that you find enough loose change under your car seats. I like the chicken tacos here because it's nicely shredded and a little crispy sometimes. The al pastor is another fav of mine because it's got some nice flavors without being too dripping wet and oily. I tried all the different meats and you really can't go wrong. The meat here is chopped up more than other places, which I tend to favor because chewing is tedious when you're standing up, tired, and most likely a little buzzed. But I often come here sober too and always leave equally satisfied. read more

I swiftly amended my order to a "vegetarian burrito without cheese" and things have been rosy ever since. BEST TACO IN LA It has the best CONSISTENTLY amazing tacos night after night (asada and suadero, I haven't tried everything else because I treat every night at Taco Zone as if it's my last). At 7pm when the right lane of Alvarado opens up for parking, you will see their truck/van combo roll up promptly, rain or moon (they have a blue tarp for rain). They set up in seven minutes and are ready to take your order. Which better be "cinco suadero para aqui!" I ate hard-shell chicken tacos for a while in LA, then moved on to asada cause that's what everyone serves. And one night I asked the Taco Zone girl what she was eating the only time I ever saw any of them take a break (they HUSTLE in that truck) and she told me suadero. That was it, I was suadero all the way. It's a different cut of meat but what I like is that they cook it in lime juice, oh man. Don't get food to go. Eat it there and you will make friends and enemies with really interesting people. This crew with a lot of scars and tattoos were talking about getting burned by another crew of thieves just north of the border. You might get converted to the four-square church, or just make friends with the Taco Zone girls who are awesome and if you go enough, they remember what your regular order is and make you feel cool.
