Given the reviews I obviously had sky high expectations for the Taco Zone Truck, and to back that consensus up, every single time I've driven past Taco Zone's stomping grounds there have been at least ten people in line. Maybe that hype is the reason that I simply wasn't as impressed with Taco Zone Truck as I thought I would be. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Taco Zone Truck runs a pretty efficient operation, but even so you should be prepared to wait. There's often only two people working this truck and given the routine lines, you can probably expect to wait a minimum of twenty minutes before ordering and another twenty minutes after ordering during peak hours, which is a pretty big investment for street tacos. From there, I'll point out that the condiments can often run thin, and by the time I got my tacos on a Sunday evening both the green salsa and the onions and cilantro went unfilled for a good ten minutes. No Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Signage told me that Taco Zone Truck recently raised their prices to $1.75 per taco, and while that's a tad above the norm for the area, it's still reasonable for what were standard sized street tacos. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So there were two things missing that off the bad gave me a bit of pause: hand made tortillas and a pastor spit. Now, neither are common for a truck, but both are in my mind the recipe for five star tacos in Los Angeles. From there everything continued along a somewhat mediocre trendline to be honest. I ordered pastor, carne asada, chorizo, and suadero tacos, and if I'm being entirely honest, all four tasted the same; and I'm not some taco rookie. All of the meats were slightly overcooked and exceptionally salty, which couldn't really be fixed even by the tasty red salsa (and the slightly more mediocre limited supply of green salsa). These were just okay. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? There are simply too many exceptional tacos in town to recommend Taco Zone Truck. No Star. read more

This is everything that you could possibly want in a taco truck. Well made food, courteous and expedient service, marketplace average pricing, and possibly the best creamy green salsa you can find. All of the regular meats/preparations plus one you don't see as often: Suadero! So good! These folks have been in operation long before all of the hipster food trucks appeared and will probably be around when they've all fizzled out. Crispy little bit o cheese and rice and beans and onions and cilantro between two corn tortillas that have been grilled to soulful yumminess. My preference is to pull them apart add the spicy red and green salsas with some of the cabbage/cucumber mix. It is the reason god made trucks. And Vero is brilliant, funny, and creates a small community of well fed people from all walks of life in the Ralph's parking lot. My friend and I were grabbing drinks nearby, and being slightly buzzed and a Taco Tuesday had to grab some tacos before calling it a night :) We yelped real quick for taco trucks nearby and came upon Taco Zone. They are located by a big lot, so tons of space to park. Luckily there was no line, as my friend mentioned there is always a long line when he passes by. I was bummed out they did not have lengua tacos but they had Suadero and Mulitas, which I've never tried so had to check it out. They have condiments on the side that you can add to your tacos, as they come out plain. _Asada Taco ($1.75) This was the best one out of the 3 tacos. The meat was juicy and well seasoned. A solid taco and just add a bit of onions and cilantro with some green sauce and you got a perfect bite :) _Suadero Taco ($1.75) Thin cut of beef from the intermediate part between the belly and the leg. The meat was shredded and flavor was a bit bland. The meat was also a bit dry so luckily the onion/cilantro toppings and the avocado green sauce helped. _Pastor Taco ($1.75) I was hoping this would come with a slice of pineapple on top but it the pastor was marinated in pineapple I believe because the aftertaste was sweet and has subtle flavor of pineapple. The flavor was good but the meat itself was dry. _Mulitas, Pastor ($2.50) Similar to a small quesadilla, choice of meat, then grilled with cheese and tortilla. I like quesadilla but don't ever get it since I'm lactose and it's too much cheese for my tummy to handle. And the fact that it's pretty big, but this Mulita was a perfect size. A bit bigger than the palm of my hand. They did not put too much cheese, which I liked but just enough to get that oozy pull. The shell itself was a bit crisp on the edges, I did not need any toppings with this, except a bit of the avocado green sauce. It had been about 6 years since I had some taco zone I was excited to have some of their tacos. The line was long so I thought it was a good sign that they were good. I didn't take into consideration that everyone in line was white. Clear sign that it's probably not good. I ordered 12 tacos. 4 suadero, 2 tripas, 3 buche, 3 asada. Taco Zone is parked right next to a Vons, so if you see the Vons, you're in the right place! (Which also means there's plenty of parking at Vons for Taco Zone.) I came on a Friday night at around 9:30pm and there was no line. I ordered tacos and mulitas, and the mulitas are bomb af!!! I didn't even know these existed, but my life has been changed since I had one. I had the al pastor and suadero; the suadero was alright, and the al pastor was my favorite. They set up these small standing tables nearby for you to eat but it was so cold, I ate in the car. Prices are super reasonable and cheap and they open pretty late, so I definitely plan on coming back. Definitely a great spot for post drinking food. read more

Nice burritos/mulitas. Quick service. Truck is located by the Vons. We parked at the end of the lot, and were in and out in less than ten minutes. While it's not the greatest burrito I've ever had, it satisfied our craving. Avocado salsa was really good and not too spicy. I tried the mulitas ($3 each) as well, but not as much bang for your buck compared to the asada burrito ($8). More like a 3.5 star overall, but I'll round up. ;) read more

I grew up in LA and this is probably the 5th time I've eaten tacos from a taco truck. And 3 of those times were from Kogi so I guess those really don't count as taco truck experiences. I drive past TacoZone's truck all the time as it is parked just beside Vons on Alvarado. I always see a line of people no matter what time it is. Decided to stop over tonight after some grocery shopping. It's hard to see the menu with all those bumper stickers! I just ordered 2 asada tacos (having had a light dinner earlier) and topped it with with pico de gallo and avocado sauce. They really give you quite a bit of meat for the tiny round of tortilla. It was delicious at $1.50 each! A much better value (and taste) than Mexicali's asada tacos on Figueroa. I don't know what was spicy but one of the two salsas (or both) are spicy. Loved it. I'm so coming back... and maybe tomorrow! They have a lot of other meats (and cuts of meat such as stomach and tripe!). I think they also make burritos and other stuff but again, I couldn't really see the menu. After getting my order on a paper plate, I just stood along with the other patrons on the sidewalk and enjoyed them. The corn tortillas were a bit dry and it would have been nice to have something wash it down but I couldn't tell if they sell drinks. Best veggie burritos around! I've come here for years and have even turned my carnivore husband on to them as well. Perfect distribution of everything and perfect size, in a soft tortilla. The mulitas are so good as well. And I'm not usually a torta person (a lot of times it's too dry with too much bread for my taste), but they fry the torta bread here right on the griddle and everything settles together for great flavor. I'll take a couple cheesy pastor mulitas above a boozy nightcap any day of the week. LA has some outstanding taco trucks and Taco Zone is one of my favorites. There's a time and place for a stop here, preferably after a night of drinking with friends in Echo Park. Get the aforementioned mulitas ($2.50 a piece), smother them with that spicy orange sauce, and soak up all of the poor decisions made easier in the form of vodka sodas. Things to note: it's cash only, so bring some bills (you can also get cash back at the Vons where the truck is parked). There are no tables, just a few planks to stand and devour your tacos outside the truck. It's surprisingly one of the few late night (like, after midnight) options in the area, so it can get busy depending on the night and what's going on in Echo Park. Long live Taco Zone! read more

I went around 6:30, and maybe I got yesterday's meat leftovers (asada, suadero, and al pastor were all plain and very underwhelming) I gotta say tho: the red salsa is really great. This is my go to spot whenever I'm in the mood for some bomb tacos! It's the place to be after you've been out and about throughout LA. I will go out of my way to get here. It's open late night and you will find the most interesting people waiting in line. It's super friendly and chill. Firstly, the tacos are amazing! I highly recommend the al pastor and carne asada tacos. They're not the smallest of tacos either, so be prepared. However, they are delicious so you will probably order more than you should once you've had them before. Recently, I tried their mulitas which are like mini quesadillas but a hundred times better. The addition of cheese to a taco-ish plate is a game changer. If you enjoy tacos and cheese then you will love their mulitas. Their service was polite and helpful. They always have a long line but don't let this intimidate you. You will get your food in a reasonable amount of time.
