Food is great if you don't mind dog hair and dander. Lady walked in this morning and straight up the counter holding her dog and his leash. The guy behind the counter even petted the dog and if you have been inside then you know there is like 3 feet from the food preparation. I love dogs and I like dog friendly restaurants which allow dogs on patios, etc. I think it is health hazard to have animals that close to food preparation. The look on the faces of the people inside waiting for their food was priceless. I bet they lost a few customers this morning! read more

Ok first of all, EL CONQUISTADOR IS THE BEST TACO IN AUSTIN, and maybe the best carnitas taco anywhere, ever. Shoot, if you put a gun to my head and made me pick the best taco joint in Austin, i'd have to say its TacoDeli...they've been serving the most consistently creative and delicious tacos for years, with great veggie options and tons of local/sustainable ingredients - they even have a page on their website dedicated to mapping where they get the ingredients. this is a big deal, but it wouldn't mean anything if the food didn't taste amazing- and it always does. read more

I am quite the connoisseur of tacos, specifically of the Southern CA truck variety. Tacos in Texas are hit or miss, and this place hits. Don't expect 1.50 truck places but they do source all their meat locally and use great ingredients. Their salsas and meat quality are on point, flavors were consistently good. Expect to pay about 10 bucks a pop; think of it as a gourmet taco shop. Good spot to introduce first timers to the flavors of solid cuisine. read more

The quality of the tacos has decreased significantly over the last year. You can tell the ingredients are much less quality than they used to be. I got a sirlion, egg, and cheese on corn this morning. There was hardly 1.5 tablespoons of sirlion and the corn tortilla was cheap and breaking as I was eating the taco. They now serve their chips in plastic sealed bags, they also don't look appetizing. This place has become everything bad about the California invasion into Austin. No thanks. The cashier was a bit rude too. I always forget that they don't serve lunch tacos until 11am, which is silly. I will get my tacos from torchys, Flores, and any other place in Austin. I've eaten tacos all my life, so let me tell you, I know a good taco when I taste one. And Tacodeli, my friends, has met my expectations. Their Salsa Doña is addicting. Their queso is great. Visited while they were renovating so they were working out of the food truck but their breakfast tacos were still on point. The place was busy so they seemed a bit scrambled with their lack of space so my order was a little messed up but it's all good. Breakfast tacos seem like such a simple thing but whatever they do - they do right. I tried a build your own with chorizo, cheese, and eggs - simple but delish. I also had the Jess special which was migas/cheese/avocado - tasty stuff - even though I ordered the Otto - I wasn't going to complain. Definitely try out their salsa too!! read more

I love this place! All of their tacos are incredible, especially their bean and cheese taco and chicken pastor- there is something addictive in the beans! The salsas rock and the people are hella nice. I live in San Francisco now and every trip back to Austin includes a drive-through at Taco Deli. read more

TacoDeli is incredible. I eat lunch there at least three times per week. I always get at least one Chicken Frontera Fundido Taco on Flower and the specials on Wed (Shrimp on Flower), on Thu (Scallops on Flower) and on Fri (Ceviche on Corn). My only complaint is that they close at 3pm. read more

I used to love Taco Deli because, although their prices may have been steeper than a few other shacks around town, they offered fresh ingredients. No more. Not only has their staff continued on their "holier than though" campaign but their cheese is most definitely that plastic crap in bags. the beans are also not what they were 2 years ago and I hate to surmise they are at Taco Bell status, but it wouldn't surprise me. Yet another Ausitn invention has bit the dust claiming to still be true. Goodbye Taco Deli. I'd rather drive 4 miles to Marias than walk the 1/4 mile to you. This was the best breakfast taco I had while in Austin! I ordered the vaquero with guac and sour cream. It was a beautiful day so my bf and I decided to eat outside on the patio. The employees of taco deli quickly and efficently sheppard the tacos to each respective guests table, which is nice especially for a fast food type place. The taco was yummy and ingredients tasted fresh. I was very tempted to order another after I scarfed down the first, and the only reason why I didn't is because I am trying to watch my weight ( yes I know i got both guac and sour cream). The only complaint is that their hours. THey close by 3pm! And in my humble opinion they should do breakfast all day during the week; they do on weekends. read more

First off, the people behind the counter of this place are great. Super friendly even to the point of correcting my screw up on the house. The tacos were a good standard breakfast taco, on the fuller side but not overstuffed. My only dig is that the flour tortilla is not handmade (they never claimed it was I just prefer homemade flour tacos) and please be forwarned because I screwed this up - the potato egg tacos are M A S H E D potatoes. I have lived in TX for 6 years and this place has the best tacos I've had yet. GO HERE. I liked the staff, the laid-back (though busy) atmosphere on a Saturday at lunch, and the delicious, delicious food. I can personally recommend the Frontera Fundido chicken taco and the Heather veggie taco as well as the guac and queso, but I imagine you would be happy with anything you picked off the menu.
