I told myself I would never come back to place after my first time here but for what ever reason, I happened to be next door and decided why not (since they had so many amazing reviews). I can now say, I had one of the best tacos I've ever had, which makes up for any bad memories. Not sure if it's always on the menu or a special of the day, but I ordered the Brisket taco. It was $5 and worth every single cent. The taco was made with the perfect amount of sauce, cheese, and meet. Every single bite was absolutely gushing with flavor. I easily could have eaten 10 more of them and been the happiest of campers. I will most likely be back, just to reorder that taco again (hopefully they still have it) ...If you have to know, my first visit was one order of the "Trippy Taco" which I assumed had to be great since it bared the name of the truck itself. I am really excited to review this place. I live so close to this truck I avoided it for so long due to my judgements based on appearance and location. (Not there is anything wrong with either) After being in Austin over 3 years now I would consider these my favorite tacos I have had. First, the price is reasonable, for someone like me who gets 6-8 tacos they all range between 3-4 dollars. The corn tortillas are not doubled up but hold their integrity and taste delicious. I tried a variety of tacos and my standouts were the al pastor, steak/egg/cheese and campechano although all delicious. The meat quality and flavor was phenomenal. Additionally the eggs and cheese for breakfast tacos are perfect. Salsas are solid and normally make or break tacos but honestly these would have still been great by themselves. I'm from out of town and I told my friend to take me to a good taco spot for breakfast. We ordered Bacon, egg, cheese/chorizo, egg, cheese/ and On the fly tacos all on a corn tortilla and a side order of rice. All were very good but my favorite was On the fly( cheese, bacon, beans, and avocado) The green salsa is so good. They have a large menu I wish I could have order more food. Trippy taco is a good truck located outside a convenience store. They have a few tables outside you can sit and eat. The cooks did a great job making the tacos great service. I love this place! Breakfast tacos in Austin have gotten so expensive- everywhere I go now I feel like they are $4.25-$5 to get a breakfast taco. All breakfast tacos at Trippy Taco are under $4, most around $3-3.25 and are great. My personal favorite is the On The Fly. I come grab breakfast tacos from here at least once a week. I used to think that I needed my breakfast tacos to have eggs, but Trippy has me tripping so hard for their chilaquiles taco. The flavor is great but the thing that I fell in love with was the texture--the incredible crunch that the tortilla strips retain despite being simmered. Absolutely wonderful. One star docked because the egg-based breakfast tacos were just a slight letdown. Stopped here for quick tacos while waiting for dad in outpatient surgery nearby. It's a cool taco truck with covered outdoor tables and a friendly staff. Prices and selection are good and they are flexible on substitutions (I got a barbacoa egg bkfst taco). Barbacoa and egg taco on corn with cilantro and onions was great. Good quality corn tortilla ( homemade) stayed together well with only one layer (often corn tortillas are doubled up to stay together). Barbacoa meat is legit. Not too salty and made with love. Also had the crispy avocado taco on corn with lettuce, tomatoes and jicama I think. Awesome! Fresh, light but savory with the fried avocado. Fried avocado may be my new favorite food! The green sauce is tasty with enough spice. Orange sauce is chipotle mayonnaise cream and, while a bit heavy, it has good flavor. Street is noisy but what the heck it's a food truck on busy street. Aaaah my search for good vegetarian tacos continues. Someone on Yelp was sweet enough to welcome me to Austin and suggest a couple of taco spots. Maybe Chicago spoiled me or maybe TexMex tacos aren't meant to be compared. I am having a hard time getting behind bland tacos with large double tortillas and little thought to the filling. I was genuinely impressed by the E. Cesar Chavez location (in front of Quickie Pickie). One of my three tacos (Vaquero) was good, but the other two (Chilaquiles and Americano) were fantastic. The Vaquero - from the breakfast taco menu - was good, but not really better than the sum of its parts if you know what I mean (typical breakfast taco issue admittedly, plus there was a little eggshell in it). That said, the Americano (lunch menu) was a flavor bomb, with the al pastor some of the best I've had. The Chilaquiles (breakfast menu again) was also great, succulent with real chili sauce flavor.
