Stumbled upon this spot got off at the wrong stop on the bus. Accepted it that this was my fate to try these tacos. There were only 2 other customers ahead of me and the no long wait enticed me further. Staff welcomed me as a long time customer- warm and friendly. I was told they made fresh juices and drinks. I opted for my tried and true Mandarin Jarritos and ordered a trio of tacos- steak, chicken and fried fish and a serving of guacamole. My food took about 15 mins - they were making the fish. It arrived smoking hot, crunchy and delicious. Ingredients and toppings were very freshly prepared. I enjoyed the steak and the chicken they were good but I regretted not ordering all 3 as fish instead. It fish was the highlight of my experience. I told the girl at the counter it was so fresh I felt I was at the beach, she smiled politely and said they make everything fresh. You could definitely taste the truth. The tortillas are handmade as well. The guac was slightly chunky and well seasoned. Saw burgers on the menu as well, along with other Mexican fare - Burritos. Quesadillas -vegetarian options available. Tacos start at $3.50 each. They gave me free chips and salsa. Restaurant is clean and there is a bathroom. Closed on Mondays. I'll make sure to "get lost" in this area again for a revisit.

My family is visiting from out of town and we came for dinner. It was delicious! We were greeted by the friendliest and sweetest staff EVER !!!!! I started with a complementary chips and salsa, the salsa verse was my favorite. We also got pico de gallo, wow was it fresh !!! The chips were perfectly salted and all of the veggies in the salsa were perfectly cut and seasoned. For my main course I got the chicken quesadilla on a flour tortilla. SOO GOOD !! I put some pico and salsa verse on it, loved it !!! The staff was patient, helpful, and attentive. It was so good we even ordered some food to-go to have later in the evening. It felt very authentic inside the restaurant, it made me so happy. I went with a few other people and they said they loved their main courses as well !!! The food was great and the service was better !!! I totally recommend this spot. Great addition to the neighborhood.

This is not the city for Mexican food, I do not care who tries to sway me. It simply. Does not. Work. The trend continues at this tiny cantina in Dyker Heights. I paid $40 for mediocrity, maybe even a step or two below it. The staff is friendly and cute, and speaking Spanish will get you further, but the food drops off significantly after the promising chips and dip. When I ordered the Queso Fundido, I was looking forward to a sharp Mexican blend with ground chorizo and some extra chips to boot. Instead I got what looked like blended Oaxaca cheese, an onion top, and some very unattractive bits of chorizo that were begging me not to eat them. So I did not. I ate the cheese because the cheese was pleasant, but the fact it comes with flour tortillas does not help its cause. When I ordered the Tortilla Soup, I was hoping for a nice blend of Mexican spices, shredded chicken, avocado, and tortilla strips. While I did get that, I also got bland flavors and a lack of any personality with the soup. In fact, it had a weird, milky, creamy broth that made me feel uncomfortable about finishing it. So I did not. When I ordered the fish tacos, I was expecting a nice piece of fresh fish, plenty of spicy pico, and an aoli to round out the whole thing. The breading for the fish is a tempura breading (bad call), and the fish they use is tilapia (an even worse call). I understand that this is not San Diego, but these two pieces of fish were practically begging me to put them out of their misery so I could send them packing for the Golden State at a later time. I duly complied. As I walked out I continued to wonder. Will this city ever get it right with a cuisine I hold close to my heart? Because right now, the future is looking bleak. At least my food was spared from further torture.

I tried the Tabu Tacos, and the AguaChiles. The decor and ambiance is amazing and makes you feel like you're in Tulum or Miami Where I think things could be improved is just service, our server Valentina was extremely nice and friendly. We waited a while for our drinks and had to ask for water and napkins a few times and ultimately waited over 15 minutes for our check after asking twice. They ended up comping our drinks, and surprised me with a birthday dessert The place is very charming. Luis is a really good manager / director he really saved the day and was able to shift the mood of my entire party :) thanks for the food, hospitality and memories and amazing photos!! See you soon

Based on what I had seen online, I expected a beautiful restaurant with great food and service. Unfortunately, the experience was the complete opposite. We arrived at 8:45 PM and immediately encountered problems. After ordering, we waited approximately 45 minutes just to receive our drinks and a very small appetizer. During that entire time, no one came to our table to acknowledge the delay, provide an update, or apologize for the wait. When I finally brought it up to our waitress, her response was simply that they were "busy." I completely understand that restaurants can get busy, but that does not excuse the lack of communication or basic customer service. What made it even more frustrating was that we were seated in the back area, and we watched every other table around us receive their food, finish their meals, pay, and leave, while we were still waiting. At that point, I asked multiple times to speak with a manager. Despite asking repeatedly, no manager came to our table. Eventually, our waitress, who had been extremely rude and inattentive throughout the experience, told us that she was the manager. That was honestly even more concerning. If you are the manager, you should be the person taking responsibility for a situation like this, communicating with your customers, and making an effort to resolve the issue, not avoiding the table until repeatedly asked. We then specifically requested to speak with the General Manager on duty, and once again, we were left waiting. By the time the GM finally came over, we had been waiting roughly three hours for our entrées. The GM told us he would "take care of us." Unfortunately, that did not amount to much. Four drinks were comped, two of which were simply Cokes, and a "complimentary" birthday dessert was essentially dropped off at the table. Even the utensils were brought over and dropped off in a way that felt dismissive rather than hospitable. I rarely leave negative restaurant reviews. In fact, I usually try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, even when service is poor. It takes a lot for me to feel compelled to write a review this lengthy. This experience was not simply about a long wait. It was the complete lack of communication, accountability, urgency, and genuine customer service. Mistakes and delays happen in the restaurant industry. What matters is how you handle them. Unfortunately, Tabú handled this situation extremely poorly from beginning to end. And after everything, the food itself was mediocre at best, which made the entire experience even more disappointing. I had been looking forward to visiting Tabú for nearly two years, and unfortunately, it did not come close to living up to the expectations created by its online presence. I will not be returning, and I strongly encourage management to reevaluate how customer complaints, service delays, and guest experiences are being handled.

We ordered guacamole (basic but good, chips were the standout), tacos( larger than expected and delicious), bone marrow (absolutely devine), duck mole (perfection), scallop aguachile( fresh and spicy), mezcal gelato for dessert( sweet and mild smoke aftertaste). It's a bit of a messy meal - basically impossible to cut with a fork and knife, so you have to use your hands, and the sauce gets right up to the edge. But it was otherwise quite good. For dessert, I had the arroz con leche. It was intensely creamy, and I also enjoyed the light foam on top. I found it very sweet, especially with the membrillo topping (it's a fruit based confection). The dining room is pretty small and got rather loud even on a Tuesday, probably with a full house and the music turned up quite a bit. Gives it more of a cocktail bar sort of feel. The bill came to $51 with tax and tip. It's good, well-executed food, but pricier than I would've liked.
