Went to Tacombi's West 33rd Street (Empire State Building) for a weekday evening event with a few friends. They were celebrating the launch of their new tuna tostada. We arrived around 8:00 p.m. and received a ticket for a complimentary tuna tostada and a free beverage, with the choice of either an alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink. The tuna tostada was excellent and will be a nice addition to the menu. The tostada was small but was packed with flavor. The fresh tuna paired well with the spicy mayo. I ordered the watermelon agua fresca (agua de sandía), one of my go-tos, and as usual it was refreshing. Overall, it was a fun event and a great opportunity to try a new menu item before its official debut. The restaurant had some fun décor that added to the experience. I associate Tacombi with the early 2010s - it was one of the early adopters of subway tiles and perhaps the first importer of the CDMX taqueria aesthetic to NYC, before Los Tacos leapfrogged them. Still, they are chugging along in 2025 and not a bad option for a Midtown lunch. The best item we had was the avocado tostada, with layers of black bean and salsa on an ultra-crispy base. I used the street entrance and it was off time so it wasn't busy. Awesome vibe and decor here. On a recent visit to NYC I stopped in for lunch. While here I had the following: Esquites-creamy and savory. Very delish dish. Sinaloa shrimp taco-shrimp were cooked perfectly. Nicely sized. Tacooooo Tuesday is always a good idea! Every Tacombi location has BOGO tacos & $9 Happy Hour prices on select drinks on Tuesdays. For 6 tacos & 2 drinks our bill came up to ~$40 before tax. You can't beat this price considering that the food was actually yummy and came out fairly quickly. We got to try a nice mix but our top 2 would definitely be the Birria and the Fried Fish tacos. This location is absolutely perfect for some drinks and food before an event at MSG. Especially since food and drink prices at MSG are astronomical. Have gone here many times over the years because it's just so convenient and reliable when you are out shopping in midtown. They have a Bogo deal on Taco Tuesday, which is a big plus. However, the service is pretty inconsistent. This has got to be my favorite location out of the 4 that I've tried around Manhattan and BK. It's spacious, lots of seating, has a nice bar seating, and lots of windows. Some bits of the meat may be fattier than others, so it will be random, but burrito came with peppers and onions, on the mild side, wasn't that spicy to me. The salsas went well with the burrito. His friendly attitude and generosity made my day! The dining room is clean with plenty of seating. Each meal I've gotten has been prompt, piping hot and full of flavor (even when it is take out). We ordered two of each taco and found all of them to be quite disappointing. The chicken taco was extremely dry and so were the carne asada tacos. Both fish tacos lacked flavor. The service was also lacking. Even though there were only about 4 other people in the restaurant, it was really hard to get any of the 5+ waitresses' attention because they were busy talking to each other by the back. Came for the El Califa de León collab at Tacombi and was pretty unimpressed. We started with Tacombi's $15 chips and guac which was so small. We had a party of 5 and we thought they gave us a small size. Some of the guac also had some hard avocado pieces, which was disappointing. Got 2 pork tacos and 2 beef tacos. The tacos are basically a piece of unseasoned meat on the tortilla. Both salsas are very delicious, but I felt like I had to douse my tacos with the salsas, otherwise they were not good. My friends said they could cook steak and make tacos better than these.....Service was pretty disappointing as well. I heard about their collaboration with a Michelin Mexico City taqueria so I felt like I should try as a big taco fan who's been to many taquerias all throughout Los Angeles and New York. They are only available until the 31st. The pork one just tasted like pork chops. The two home made salsas weee ok. The green sauce tasted regular but the red sauce wasn't that good to me. The taste was a bit off and not very spicy either. The beef was good but nothing spectacular. They are just slabs of meat on a tortilla. There wasn't much flavor at all. Located just north of Koreatown in midtown manhattan, Tacombi has the vibe of a Mexican taqueria in the middle of a very busy city. On our last day in NYC, we wanted to get dessert in Koreatown, so decided to stop by this nearby Mexican restaurant for lunch right when it opened (11am). We were the first customers there, and it was still a bit sleepy inside, so took a bit to get seated. Full table service was given, including paper order forms to actually write down what you want (like in a dim sum or sushi restaurant). Nobody was particularly eager to eat a lot, so decided to keep it simple. -- Rice & Bean ($4.78) : it wasn't clear what kind of beans it was (ended up being whole black beans). It comes in a small dish, with onion/cilantro mix between. It tasted fine, and the rice tasted made that morning. ( -- Beef Birria Tacos ($12.98): Two street size tacos...it reminded me of a quesabirria taco (fried up corn tortilla with a cup of consume for dipping), but didn't have any cheese. The price for just 2 tacos with no sides, reflected where we were. -- Maya Cola ($3.98) - used to always getting Mexican coke, but this was instead offered. Came here for dinner with my friend and had a very positive experience. Despite the restaurant being super busy, the staff was beyond attentive and friendly. All the food we ordered came out SO quickly. The food itself was great. We tried a couple of the tacos and split a chicken quesadilla. The flavors were delicious and it all felt really authentic. I do wish the portions were bigger though. After two tacos each and splitting a quesadilla, the two of us left satisfied, but not full. It's a large place with lots of seating. Great service! I visited Tacombi as my first stop in NYC. The waiters were amazing and attentive, we had a large party for a corporate event and they were quick to pick up empty plates and check on our table. The ambiance is nice and homey, the setting is dark but they have candles at the tables to light up the room. The carne asada tacos are great and flavorful! The salsas on the side were appreciated since they were much needed. The chicken and sweet potato tacos weren't my favorite. I ordered catering from here for an office group of roughly 50 people. The online ordering was easy, the delivery person called exactly when we expected, and the food was warm upon delivery. We got a few trays of carne, pollo, pork, and black bean & sweet potato. We also got rice & beans and two large trays of guacamole. It was fantastic! Everyone was very happy with the offerings, with many compliments. This was the third day in a row of catering, so it was nice that we didn't let everyone down that last day -- thanks, Tacombi. The pollo was a bit messy, but juicy and flavorful. The carne had peppers and onions, and with an added smear of guac, was on point. The pork had pineapple and was a great combination. All executed very well. The guac was wonderful -- some big chunks of avocado in it too, and it came with plenty of chips. I ended up bringing a bag home. They also came with a few bottles of hot sauce, and because we selected it, included plates, napkins, and utensils. Overall, for a catering solution, it was perfect.
