Stopped by last night after a long day at an event for a quick bite with colleagues. The menu was very limited and not really that creative. The food was mediocre at best mine came out cold. Our server was efficient but isn't going to win the congeniality award for this month. The overall atmosphere was fine but again nothing special. Cute Mexican restaurant in the shadow of the highline right next to Hudson Yards. It's a small space but spacious enough for the crowd. The food is tasty and well prepared and good portions. The drinks prices are a bit $$ steep but are good - go for the happy hour. Though our server was a bit slow he seemed overwhelmed by the service but he was friendly and did try to check in. I came here with a friend 4th of July weekend, and it was fairly quiet. While the ambiance was delightful, there were limited options for a vegetarian. The tacos were ok, but lacked a spice / flavor I have grown accustomed to with Mexican food. We came from Texas and arrived at this restaurant. The food was middle of the road. We had nachos, veggies and burritos for appetizer and then got tacos with rice and beans and elote as sides. The nachos were the best items on the menu and the arroz was good too. You can tell they really make amazing Spanish rice, but the beans were mediocre since they were black beans and not pinto, as I prefer frijoles de charros. Menu was limited and tacos were $25.00 for three tacos no sides. Camarons are made with miniature shrimp. The corn tortillas appeared to be store bought and broke easily. We came here on a Sunday night. There was only one other party in the restaurant. We sat at the table by the window. The table was a bit too high for the low couch seating so it wasn't very comfortable. To start, we had the chips and dips. This included guacamole, mango salsa, and pico de gallo. All three tasted very fresh and flavorful. The accompanying tortilla chips were homestyle and thick. The portion size was a bit small. For my main, I had the veggie tacos. I asked for no zucchini so they added bell peppers. The tacos were tasty, especially with the corn tortillas, but not very memorable. I also got the paprika corn. This was served with the paprika and cream sauce on the side so you had to mix it in yourself. It got quite watery, but it had nice flavor and paired well on top of the tacos. All of our drinks were very strong. I enjoyed the Spicy Mint cocktail, which was refreshing with a noticeable kick from the jalapeño . The menu prices were very high and though the food was decent, the value for money wasn't there. They also automatically add gratuity to your bill, even for small parties. read more

Taqueria on Tenth is located in West Chelsea. I recommend two nearby Mexican places if you are visiting the Vessel or the Edge Mall. The first is Kahlo, and the second choice is this one. So far, I have been to this location twice. I like the ambiance, and we all love a good photo op with a classy background! If you are going to spend money eating out, you need the place up to trend with the decoration of a rich person's taste [just as Instagram pressured the restaurant business to be]. The service can be slow at times, but that is normal in NYC; sometimes it's the best, and sometimes depending on the time you come, busy. The tacos are great, and the protein is marinated and made well, so you get that great taste, and they pack up each taco so that with three, you get full. I recommend avoiding the nachos; I didn't think the quality was good. But the Guac, Salsa, and chips are great, with free refills on them [so I ordered 5 refills, and it helps with that extra meat that falls out of the taco - yummy!]. Some of the worst hospitality I've had in years. Mezcal margarita wasn't good. Ordered three different tacos for the table to share. The Cecina taco was over cooked and full of fat globules. Had to spit most of it out as it wasn't edible. Server wasn't around. At the end of the meal he dropped the check (10:10) the restaurant was supposed to close at 11 pm. The check has 22% Gratuity included to it ( we were a TABLE OF 5). I was confused as the service was deplorable. He didn't let us know about the gratuity that was included. I went up to him to ask him why 22% was included. He acted as if it was a mistake. He proceeded to punch in 20%. I wish I'd given him 10 that's how bad of a service it was. The guac and chips were fantastic and they drinks excellent - but the tacos (carnitas and chicken) were both too heavy and somehow oily. It's a lot of food so you could easily share an order of tacos for two. Our bill for 2 drinks, guac and chips and 2 tacos was $120 and for that price, I want to be blown away.
