I have wanted to try this place for a long time but never have, not going to lie, I wasn't missing out on anything. The rice and beans were so good! And the salsa was probably my favorite thing. Ok. Ok Taconooga. You got me to change my mind. I finally went back and had tacos and they were delish! I ordered a carne asada, carnitas, a bean and fried egg taco (try it - really!) and my favorite, al pastor. I ate a few chips and salsa so when my tacos came I could only eat my al pastor and half of my egg taco. Today for lunch I had the other tacos and they held up really well. The pastor was very flavorful and moist and had that zingy sweetness from the pineapple. Super good. The bean and egg taco was interesting and really good. I just wish my egg were a little more yolky. It was over hard and the yolk cooked through. Next time I'll ask them to do it over medium. The yolk running in the taco would be oh so good. Today I had the carne asada, which was tasty and stayed fairly moist after microwaving. It had a lot of meat in it. The carnitas was a surprise. A good surprise. Typically leftover carnitas tends to get dried out, this stayed very moist and very flavorful. I would definitely order that again. Probably the best value for a meal on Frazier. we go there as a family of four and get an appetizer and leave with a bill under 40 bucks. It seems authentic, there are mostly immigrants working there and also every time I've went many immigrant diners. Obviously deep fried but I'm unsure in which oil, probably not healthy, definitely not healthy, but so good. I get the Big Nooga which is a wonderful wet burrito, a good amount of food for $9.50. We checked out the North Shore location of Taconooga tonight after a trip to Coolidge Park. We were pleased with our experience overall! The good...the food was great! I had the chicken Taconooga taco and the Al Pastor taco with black beans. My husband had the chicken quesadilla, which was huge and came with rice and refried beans. We also got the queso and salsa as an appetizer. My husband considers himself a salsa expert, and this salsa got the thumbs up from him. The stuff that didn't make me happy...nothing major but things I wish were different. There are no free chips and salsa at this restaurant. Salsa also isn't included when you order queso and cheese, so you'll have to buy these separately. Also, if you order a soda, they bring you a glass bottle, so...no refills. Since this is not typical practice in this area, I think they should mention this when you order a soda just as a courtesy. Also, since there are no refills, it would be nice if they offered you a second bottle (if you want to pay for one) or a glass of water; my waitress never offered anything after I finished my bottle. While those minor issues could be improved upon, in my opinion, the food is definitely good enough to make up for it. I will definitely try this place again! read more

Really feel uncomfortable giving a place two stars when they are so nice however the food just doesn't cut it. It was a Monday so we should give them a little slack for that however these were probably the worst tacos I've had in my life. Taco Bell would have been better. Perhaps our mistake was getting the tacos that were on special - usually that means that they are fresher and they're getting more action but in this instance I think they were trying to get rid of old stuff from the weekend. The chicken was pale, cut into small chunks no grill marks, no flavor and dry. The pork al pastor was dry and had way too much paprika. The pork Carnitas had no pork flavor, stringy and dry and that was the best of the three. It's a little bit of a strange feel when you walk in, you're not sure if you order at the counter based on how casual it looks or if it's table service - which it is. This is our first time in Chattanooga and maybe Mexican restaurants are not very popular here. If this one wants to survive it's going to have to up its game in terms of flavor and moisture of it meats. read more

I typically judge restaurants by their chips & salsa, and Taconooga's is fantastic! And their queso dip is one of the best I've had thus far. The street corn came highly recommend by a friend, but I wasn't pleased with it. The corn didn't seem fresh, didn't have much flavor, and it came in a bowl. Oh well. The restaurant is unassuming in a small, almost grungy boutique strip just past the walking bridge in North Shore, but believe me when I tell you that the food is SO so good. God tier. I only had the chori-queso and a steak Taconooga taco this time, so I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but all my friends think their other options are great as well. The chips are fluffy, greasy, crispy, and warm. The chori-queso dip is creamy, cheesy, and greasy deliciousness. You physically cannot eat just one. And the Taconooga taco!!! Oh my gosh, it is such a unique culinary blend of chilled crumbly cheese and corn with warm melted cheese and grilled steak or chicken underneath that just works perfectly together. And there's also some magical drippy white sauce that oozes out with every scrumptious bite. You'll eat the top layer of the two-layer corn tortilla stack (and yes, CORN tortilla - very authentic and exactly what this dish requires) and have another ready to go below with all the caught drippings/excess from the first. Taconooga is how food is supposed to be. Portions are medium, place is small, and price is a little bit higher than an actual hole-in-the-wall, but absolutely worth the value of the literal God-tier food. Will go again every time I come through Chattanooga. Cannot recommend it enough! And when you go, you will not regret ordering a Taconooga. read more

We were on our way to the Little Theatre and decided to try Taconooga...park, walk, eat and then entertainment without paying to park multiple times downtown. First, it is a super small place. There really isn't any room to wait unless you keep the door open or move toward the counter. It is hard for people arriving to determine who is waiting for a table and who is just there for a to-go order. The night we were there, all seats taken and they were slammed with to go orders. Even with that we didn't wait long for the table or the food once we ordered. I have to say the food is worth the wait! It was a delicious meal of authentic Mexican food. Stopped by with two hungry boys after climbing at High Point and this place DID NOT disappoint! Everything we ate was extra yummy, and the portions were huge (the boys both ate quesadillas off of the regular menu). The chips (which you have to pay for) were hot, thick, and crispy, and the carnitas was good. It's a little pricey-lunch for three was $50-and it's difficult to find a park, but overall, a tasty experience. We'll be back! read more

Visiting a friend and wanted to grab some Mexican carry out for supper. Doesn't look like much from the street and parking isn't great but food surprised me. Taco salad was good, huge but good. Wasn't a huge fan of the salad dressing but salsa worked as a good substitute. Fair priced. My friend got the Taconooga tacos, very cheap but also just came with 2 small tacos.
