Haven't been here in a while. Can't believe I forgot how great this place is. Stopped by for lunch today. Had the carne asada tacos. Absolute banger. There's something about the flavor of the meat that stands out over the stuff served at other taco shops. The service here is lightening fast, so there's that too. Got my order in less than 5 minutes. It's a great spot for people who don't have a lot of time to grab and eat lunch. The staff is real nice. While eating at a table outside, I could hear them laughing and having a good time. They must like working here. I pass through here daily and always wanted to try their tacos. I'm a huge taco fan. The service was cool. Nice cashier quick service they gave me my food in like 7-8min or so. Cool little spot for a quick bite, great prices. Really good red sauce I must say! Honest review the food looks bomb but I didn't feel it tasted 5 star taste but it's good. There are a few Tacos 1986. I have only been to this one and we love it. All of their food is great--Mexican food-- and you will love it. Beware the salsa, some is so hot, so ask. I did not and that was just dumb. We love all their food. They make the best soft tacos and their burritos are out of this world. They have great meat that is cut just for you and it is ever so fresh and tasty. They have several types of tacos and burritos, my favorite being the carne asada burrito. They also have salsas you can buy by the bottle and they even have merch. The place is super cute and always clean. You can eat there or take home, many take home or use delivery. The service is great. They are so nice and they make you smile. The prices are fair for what you get and the food is fresh. You will love it. read more

I've been going to the dtla location for years but happened to be at UCLA for an event so stopped by this location. I always get their mushroom quesadilla, which is a taco with melted cheese on top. And it's been consistently good at each location. I still give it a 10/10. My friend got carne asada burrito & chicken taco and said the burrito was about 7/10. They have a bunch of different salsas, lime & radish you can pair your meal with. Location is clean and customer service was great per usual. read more

Tacos 1986 hits the spot. Pretty solid spot overall and doesn't miss if you're craving tacos. It is on the pricier side I will say and this location doesn't have a ton of seating. The service on the other hand was fantastic, everyone was super nice and friendly. For the food, my favorite is their Adobada. The carne asada and pollo asado were overall decent. We came here based on the reviews to grab a light lunch. This place is well known because President Biden came and ordered a quesadilla. We ordered 2 asada (5/5) tacos and 1 pastor taco (4/5). The food was flavorful. The service was good. We ordered and received our food shortly after. There is a small area with a self serve salsa bar with radish and cucumber . My favorite was the salsa de fresa . I've never seen or tried strawberry salsa, but it was pretty good! *Just don't add too much to your tacos. The ambience is upbeat. There is Mexican music playing. There is an open kitchen where you can see the employees preparing the homemade tortillas and food. There is an outdoor dining area, but no chairs. You stand and eat at bar style tables. Limited dining area. My husband and I had to walk a little to stand and eat. Overall, the asada tacos were more flavorful than the pastor taco. Good food. read more

Today Monday 3.9.26 I went to their Westwood store to place an order for my team and they were still closed. It was 8:15am. A cook inside made a hand gesture from the kitchen saying they open at 10am. I double checked their store info schedule and Yelp and they both say it opens at 8am. I checked out Tacos 1986 because of the amazing 5 tacos for $5 deal going on this week, and I'm so glad I did. I got 20 tacos (carne asada, adobada, pollo asado), and they were all cooked well and topped with fresh onions, cilantro, salsa, and guacamole. The carne asada is my favorite because of the char. You can also see the them making fresh handmade corn tortillas, which truly makes this place so great--the aroma and taste of the fresh tortillas is so addicting. I also loved the self-serve station filled with a variety of salsas and other condiments. If you love chili oil, you will love their salsa macha! Although their tacos are normally pricey, I'd still come back again because of the authentic taste and flavors. Despite being so busy with a line coming out the door, the staff member at the cashier was very kind and quickly refilled the salsas and condiments upon asking. Double parked and checked-in, but no one came out for a while...ran in and bag was on the counter with no one waiting and multiple staff...so not sure why that service is offered. Anyways, got their delicious bottled horchata ($3.50) again. It's less thick and has a strong milky flavor--make sure to shake it! Paired it with the #1 taco combo ($12), which comes with 2 5" tacos, beans, rice, and a soda. The tacos come with guac on top, but this time I decided to get in on the side so I could dip, and I was disappointed by the small portion and lack of flavor with the carne asada when eaten without the guac. With that in mind, I decided to give them a try anyways. I ordered online and went to pick up my order. It was prepared on time as requested, so the service and the employees were good. They also have a nice selection of salsa, which I try all of them, and the salsa were very good. The place was clean, but on the smaller side, and there's not much room to eat there if you'd like . Now come to food, this is where they need some improvement. The taste of the salad that I got was good. It's really about the portion size and the price. For what you pay for, it's really not worth it. My burrito was very small and was not cheap at all. I probably won't be coming back here if I'm in the mood for Mexican. Probably my favorite taco place! The toppings selection is fantastic, with a lot of variety to choose from, and if you're doing takeout, you can pack little cups of them to go. I especially like adding their sliced cucumbers to my tacos. The fresh tortillas, pressed to order, are amazing--soft, not floury, with a nice amount of oil that pairs perfectly with the taco fillings. Tacos are tasty here. The tortillas are the best part. They make them fresh there. They aren't dry and have good flavor. You get your basic meat options here. You won't find fat or gumballs in your meat. I stick to the pastor and asada here. The pastor could use a little more flavor. The only issue I had is i ordered an hour in advance and when I got there I still had to wait another 15 minutes. I got the text that the order was ready, but yet still waited. This is related to an online order that I tried to get a refund for (for one item) but it didn't pass for some reason. I've been here in person before and it's a nice spot to eat at. There's also delicious sauces for self serve. The quesadillas and perron (5ish dollars each) had good flavors. My friend got a burrito a while back and I recall the size and how much he liked it. For 15 dollars I got a very disappointing burrito. I put it next to the perron and it was literally 0.5 inches longer. What happened??? Anyway. Just don't order the burrito here. We were in the area and looking for a place with fast vegetarian lunch options and remembered really liking our DTLA Tacos 1986 experience, so decided to try this location. As with the DTLA location it's standing counter dining only, so if you're looking for a place to sit you're out of luck. We were ok with it. We got a couple of vampiros, a taco, and a quesadilla--all with mushrooms (which is the only veg option), along with an assortment of their salsas. The food was good, but it's all pretty much the same ingredients in different combinations, and rather small portions for the price. The fried tortillas on the vampiros were kind of tough and chewy--made me wish I'd gotten the mulitas instead. We also got a couple of horchatas, which came pre-packaged in bottles. We thought they tasted good, but it was weird not getting them in a cup with ice. Overall good; we got what we came for, but can't say I endorse it as enthusiastically as before. read more

Nestled in the outskirts of Westwood Village, Tacos 1986 offers a surprising amount of protein choices (pollo, adobada, carne asada, etc) that you can get as a quesadilla, mulita, taco, burrito, rice bowl and more! While I still prefer taco trucks or street stalls, their menu offerings are surprisingly well-made (albeit a bit salty), and much better than Americanized Mexican restaurant chain offerings. Every dish included lots of toppings including salsa, fresh guacamole, onions and cilantro, although I wish their UberEats delivery options included their salsa and any limes/grilled jalapeños and onions. It is small with no where to eat outside with a few stand up bar type of spots outside Small selection of meats. We got a taco of each of the three and they were good. This is hands-down one of my top favorite burritos I've ever eaten. I always choose al pastor as my protein so I chose adobada which is the version that they offer and it was so good that I forgot to take a picture of the inside because I was too busy eating it. Burritos are actually a new menu item at Tacos 1986 and they should have added it sooner because the ratio of ingredients was so well-balanced and every bite was a beautiful marriage of flavors. The adobada was juicy, tender and a bit greasy but the salsa helped cut some of it so all was well. They have a wide selection of salsas from mild to spicy and of course I tried them all. I also ordered combo #1: any 3 tacos - pollo asado, carne asada, and hongo for my boyfriend because he didn't mind trying anything but I wanted to try one of every meat option. I liked all of them pretty equally but hongo would be at the bottom only because of the lack of texture. That said, they're pretty flavorful and topping them with salsa made them even better. If you make a visit here, definitely order the adobada whether it's in taco form or burrito form. Parking is a bit rough because it's mostly street parking. However, if you go grocery shopping nearby then you can stop by after to take some food to go. The food came out relatively quickly and we dined out on the stands outside but there was no place to sit down. read more
