I live in the neighborhood right next door and I am obsessed with this place!! I've been three times this month alone. Their carnitas burritos are insane, huge chunks of meat, amazing flavor, not too much fat. Perfect portions The burrito has rice and beans onion and cilantro inside, it's always fast, I never wait more than 5 mins for my food and there is never a long line when I go. Their salsa is great too, 4 different options with a chart that explains the different heat levels. Great drink selections, lots of things to choose from. Ambiance is nice and quiet and casual. Went a second time and updating my review as both times I have gone my order has been completed incorrectly (which I realize I didn't mention in my initial review as I was trying to be mindful that they had just opened days before). I called to place an order for taquitos, 8 tacos (2 with just cilantro and no onions) and a side of rice the other day. I went in and picked up my order and every taco had onions on it (w/ very little cilantro) and there was no side of rice included. A huge part of accepting orders (over the phone or in person) is ensuring that the order you are handing off to your customer is correct. I shouldn't have to check each item before I leave to make sure its right. I think I saw them take my order to the back once they realized it might have been made incorrectly but I feel like they thought it was too much work to fix (taking the onions off) so they left it. At the end of the day, not a huge deal. Grateful for warm food and tasty dinner but just something to be mindful of when ordering! read more

There's a first for everything right? Al pastor is by far my favorite and decided to give this place a try since it's close to where I live. Got an Al pastor torta since I saw someone post a picture on here saying it was bomb. Got home and open it up to see well... it's clearly carnitas they put Al pastor or al pastor like seasoning on. I definitely ate it and it was pretty good. Not amazing. But come on.... Don't call it something it's not. Part of why I like Al pastor is because it's not shredded. This is just lazy. Either serve Al pastor or dont serve a fake version of it at all. read more

Excellent food an awesome little hole in the wall to fine here in the heart of Costa Mesa. The restaurant has COVID-19 measures that is very clean you can often find staff cleaning and wiping down the tables. After visiting this place several times I finally think I can give my honest opinion of it. I have tried there tacos/mulitas/burritos, and I got to say they're very solid in taste and quality. I definitely recommend the carnitas! It is in the name, it is very flavorful and moist. I don't recommend the asada. But, I don't blame them because their beans, and rice definitely make up for it. If you're vegetarian I would recommend a Beans, Rice, and Cheese Burrito, because they're are very flavorful. The customer service has been very good as well, no complaints there. The only complaint I would say, is that the prices are a little on the higher side, and the tacos/mulitas are on the smaller side. But, this will definitely be one of my go-to mexican restaurants here in Costa Mesa. I'm also glad that they re-painted and fixed this location as well, the last restaurant that was here, was not very appealing. read more

Took my family last night because my 4yr daughter loves the beans and we tried these two items there and we loved it so fresh and the taste and I feel like I'm eating from my grandmothers kitchen! picaditas are my favorite!! Hands downs those things are fire! Not to mention how nice they are and how clean they have with sanitizer on counter and everyone wearing good quality protective gear. Highly recommends this place! Pepe's is awesome. I spent a while living in San Luis Potosí, Mexico and in the ~5 years I've lived in the United States, this is the most authentic Mexican food I've had. At Pepe's, you'll find all the regular staples, but you'll also find some meats/cuts that are a little less common - think tongue, pigs' trotters, stomach lining - but be adventurous, as it's all delicious. Another review said it's cash only - this is not the case. Definitely upsize any burrito for the extra (I believe) 95¢, you'll get some excellent rice and cheesy beans. Also look out for specials - they did have a Taco Tuesday offer a few weeks ago, and I'm guessing it was too popular, but I think they probably have occasional offers. read more

Love this little local spot for simple, tasty and authentic Mexican takeout. It's nothing fancy by any means, but the food is definitely made with love. We've had the tacos, guacamole, mole and my personal favorite, the caldo de pollo with homemade tortillas. If you haven't tried this place yet, please come in!!! The food is very authentic, and very well seasoned. My daughter and I tried the carnitas tacos, and the green enchilada plate. Their tacos were delicious, and the enchiladas tangy from the sauce and even the chicken inside was well seasoned. Only thing I regret is not taking pictures. Dannnnggg the quality of food here has gone down, while the prices have gone up! One chicken taco is now $3.69. That's an outrageous price for something that's no better in quality or even bigger in size than your average taco truck taco. But the taste does not even justify the price. First of all, the last time I had been here which might have been during the pandemic, I remember they were using what were very clearly handmade tortillas. They were delicious, and thick. And a big reason why I used to love this place. Now they're absolutely using tortillas from a bag, and they're not even good. They even tasted like they hadn't even been cooked all the way. Plus I remember when I had gotten chicken tacos here before it was big succulent pieces of grilled chicken. I was blown away by the quality and taste of the tacos before. Now they're using the grisly parts of chicken with very mediocre tortillas from a bag. Super disappointing. Finally I'm also disappointed to see that they're not making homemade agua frescas. I will say though I tried the mole sauce and it was very very good. But all in all the switch from homemade tortillas to bagged tortillas and the downgrade of meat quality is a huge disappointment, not to mention outrageous considering the steep prices read more

I've eaten here a couple of times now and the food has been great. Their specialty is the carnitas so I ordered just that. I had their carnitas tacos and they were delicious! I'm very picky about my carnitas and rarely eat pork but I really liked the flavor and consistency- juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also tried their mulitas but they weren't for me. My mom loves them and the fact that they give you sour cream and guacamole. I paid with card so they are definitely not cash only as of recently.
