We're originally from Southern California and we have a great love (more like obsession) with finding good tacos/Mexican food. We just moved here about a week ago, and since we heard a lot about the lack of good Mexican food here,we were pretty reluctant to try anything. The reviews were pretty good and it's pretty close to where we live so we thought we'd give it a try. The woman who took our order was VERY nice. Shes originally from Mexico but lived in southern CA for 20+ years. (I assumed she was part owner or something so I liked that they were legitimately "California tacos". I got three tacos. They were pretty good, basic street tacos. The Carne Asada fries were also good. Honestly better than I expected! The "hot sauce" though, is amazzzzzing. We'll definitely be going back! read more

By far , an outstanding and authentic Latin American restaurant. They offer a good bit of Honduran food specialties, as well as Mexican food that was better than most of the Mexican restaurants I have tried in western Washington. I got a carne asada burrito that came out to be like a massive gut buster in a good way! It had fresh pico, beans, lettuce, guacamole , cheese and I used the fresh and free salsa bar that had more pico, jalapeño, guacamole salsa, red and green salsas. Needless to say, I love sauces, so my burrito was hearty and dripping with goodness. They also have free chips with their homemade salsa bar. It's definitely a place I would go back to if I'm in the area again. read more

I had Tacos California bookmarked for awhile. The Tacoma Volcano newspaper once a year puts out a "Best Of" for Olympia and up into Lakewood and I saw that this restaurant was praised highly on more than one occasion and I was excited to give it a try. It took a while to get here though since this is an area of Lakewood I hardly ever go to. I was craving for a burrito and I got a deluxe sort of one. I had a nice, ground beef burrito with green sauce...tomatillo I believe garnished with sour cream, pico de gallo and slices of avocado on top. The burrito was huge and I had to take some home which made a good lunch the next day. There is a small salsa bar on a table. There are not many salsas to pick from. About two I think but they taste great as well as red and green sauces that you can also use. The service was very good and the food tasted great. I would definitely return. It is close to the interstate in an otherwise underwhelming area but knowing this little gem is tucked away it definitely is worth making the exit. We have been here for about 45 min. We are now the only ones in here the tables are covered in dirty dishes, horchata is empty, food did not come with the items listed on the menu. The seafood in their soup is over the top fishy. Our Cali burritos we were able to stomach a few bites and had to stop. Their fajitas are amazing, but we had to remind her to bring out tortillas about 10 min after the food came out. She laughed it off and brought them out once his food was almost all gone. The waitress had super long nails and the underneath was covered in food. This place use to be awesome, this is such a disappointment from what it use to be. read more

This place just recently opened and its one of my favorite places to grab quick fresh tacos. The interior is clean and well kept. There is a wide variety to choose from on the menu. I got the special a tamale & enchilada (side of rice and beans) for 6.50. Food came out quickly and hot. I would also give there burritos a shot (wet or dry option). Just came from getting food there and was eating my tortilla soup that comes with chicken tell me why whatever is inside is red and nasty and not chicken.. it has dots in it like if it's a tongue or some sort. 11 dollars down the drain wouldn't even let my dog try and eat it. I called in my order and I asked them if I can get a vegetable california burrito for take out. They asked me when I will be there and i said 20 minutes and they said okay. As I arrive they were just sitting down on their phones finishing texting or doing whatever.. I told them i called in for a take out and explained to her what my order was and she was like ohhhh okay. And then i asked her if its ready and she told me that they didnt make it yet. I called today a Saturday to order something to go at 6:20pm and she told me they are closed when it's states they are open till 8. She also very rudely hung up on me. Honestly the food is average if you're comparing it with authentic mexican food. The salsas are mediocre and the service is hit or miss. This is my favorite place to eat while I am at work. They serve large portions. When I feel like being a pig I eat the whole meal but I try hard to save half for a later meal. I pay about $10 but that is for two meals because I only eat half of my meal at the restaurant. Therefore, I believe the price is great for the amount and quality of the food. read more

This place is awful!!! I would give zero stars if I could. When we walked in it was completely empty and there were two tables with old food and dishes. The woman behind the counter didn't even look up from her silverware wrapping when we approached the counter. At first I was served the wrong dish. When I received the correct food, I couldn't eat it it was so gross. The beans were watery, and the steak overcooked, over-oily, and just plain gross. I love this place! The quality of their food is amazing! Their burritos are way bigger than Memos. Great prices too. If you love traditional California Mexican food this is the best place in the area. If you are familiar with the California Tacos trucks in the Olympia/Lacey area these are the same guys. Horrible customer service. I ordered a salad that comes with olives. No olives were on it so I asked for them. She said they don't have them anymore. Then my friend gets her food (which was also missing something) but get this it had olives! When I told the owner that her cashier lied to me she laughed. I should also mention that I found a rubber band in my salsa which they also thought was funny. I will NEVER be back. Bad food bad service bad people. PS. My salad was soggy and wilted. Pretty tasty!!! It's very hard to get actual authentic Mexican food up here. Very hard... However. Reluctant to try, I did. And I was thrilled about the chile verde. It had a very original taste & was extremely good. I think this is in my top 3 places of as close to Mexican food in TX as it gets in WA. And I'm okay with that. Service is good as well. Omg I love Tacos California! They have the best nachos!! The chicken nachos are by far the best I've ever had. I did have the steak ones and I found A LOT of gristle I'm the steak and most of it I had to spit out so I didn't get a lot of meat. My husband usually gets the burritos and he really enjoys their burritos. read more
